Dear Alcobrewans,

We are living in a world of disruptions today. You will find disruptions across the business world in everything and every aspect. The disruptions could be in the technological arena or can have political or economic ramifications. These disruptions have the power of transforming the world of business. The most profound examples could be advancement in digital technology, GST implementation, demonetisation, etc.

We may not have a long history of existence, but we are maturing into a typical corporate entity but with a difference. One of the main and important components of our vision is to have “an enterprise most lovable by the employees and most sought after by outsiders”.

We have grown over the years like a family and we have had the luxury of taking everyone along which used to happen around a pivot as a small group. We are committed as an organisation as our vision specifies to the people who are the most important factor in the growth of the organisation.

There is no alternative to our commitment to the transparency with the processes and policies in place. You all will agree with me when I say that we must add character of continuous improvement in our day to day efforts if we must make a difference in our monotonous lives.

Regarding bringing improvement in various internal functions of a business with an intention to have a control on their outcomes we have introduced a system of balanced scorecard with the help of our HR partners Humanora. A two-day high-performance culture seminar was conducted at an offsite in Manesar. The Seminar concluded with everyone setting up KRAs as per the balanced scorecard with an intention to create a process of value addition to every individual of the organisation and in the process create a valued organisation.

Every individual in the organisation including the MD has created a set of balanced scorecard KRAs segregated into four buckets in order to attain the vision and strategy of the Organisation. A perpetual system of quarterly check-ins has been provided for in the system which will help all of us to grow in a transparent and open system.

I, therefore, request you all to keep a close eye on the KRAs we have created for ourselves in order to be able to see that we achieve the ultimate targets we have carved for ourselves.

All the Best, Team.Cheers!

Music was identified as one of the core pillars for strengthening the positioning of our flagship brand – Golfer’s Shot whisky. The past quarter saw the launch of the much awaited Golfer’s Shot Limited Edition Pack (LEP), which was showcased under the vertical of Packaging Innovation. The new value-addition pack featured an attractive and fresh look to engage more customers, and was provided at the same price as the regular pack. The theme of the Limited Edition Pack was ‘Music’.To promote Golfer’s Shot, the team identified Music as a core pillar and thus Golfer’s Shot collaborated with the music app Jio Saavn. On Jio Saavn, Golfer’s Shot had its own brand channel with 9 playlists, which were all in sync with the brand’s positioning of “Taste the Good Life”. Branding for Golfer’s Shot was visible extensively on this app, and was visible to all Jio Saavn users on a Pan-India basis. Initially, this campaign was live for 6 weeks.During this campaign, we amplified our digital media channels (Facebook & Instagram) with Jio Saavn that helped the users of Jio Saavn to land on our Instagram page and check our digital media promotions.On the digital front, besides the amplification of the Jio Saavn association, Alcobrew made a customised video to promote the Limited Edition Pack. We went live with our product launch in priority markets like Haryana, UP and Delhi, and gathered extremely high reach and engagement numbers. Besides building the pillar of music, Golfer’s Shot scaled other heights as well.

Golfer’s shot makes Waves on social media!Spice Slice Bite covered Alcobrew’s “Celebrate the good life with Golfer’s Shot” campaign, concluding Golfer’s Shot as one of the finest blended whiskies available in Indian market. The website extolled Golfer’s Shot’s overall smell, taste and cost and said these are the three major score points for Golfer’s Shot whisky.

Overall the smell, the taste and the cost are the three major score points in my opinion for this whisky. Easily available in almost all li-quor stores, this is easily attainable without burning a hole in your pocket and with no compromise on quality. My recommendation, definitely give this a try.

From the house of Alcobrew, Golfer’s Shot is a barrel-aged whisky which was launched in 2014. First time tasting any new whisky just add a drop of water to it, to get all the notes. This warm golden-coloured whisky has a smoky finish and is really smooth on the palate. Now the fact that it has been matured in hand-crafted oak casks gives it that golden colour as well as the smoky undertone. On smelling it, you will get strong hint of spices.

Keeping in line with the company’s mission in mind, all the senior managers of the company, across all departments, participated in a dedicated and focussed 2-day outdoor workshop on building “HIGH PERFORMANCE WORK CULTURES”.

The whole session was steered by the extended HR team of Alcobrew (the Human Ora team of Sanjay, Kalpana and Seema) with an active participation of Alcobrewans, including the management team of Mr. Romesh Pandita and Mr. Arvind Kaul. A contest was held to Brand the Performance Appraisal Process within the company. Lo and behold, Alcobrewans had the name coined as ‘SMART PEG’ – suggested by one of our own Alcobrewans – Mr. Rajesh Mehta. He was rewarded handsomely with a family dinner voucher by our MD – Mr. Romesh Pandita.

The session had roughly about 45+ managers and above taking part. The intent of the session was to acclimatise the leadership team with the concept of the various stages in Performance Appraisal Process and help the managers build their KRA sheets for themselves and for the extended team.

Another important aspect was that the MD score card would be shared with this team, and the functional heads would be drawing their KRAs aligned with the overall company mission and near-term goals. It was a wonderful session where all the participants were actively involved in the entire session and contributed towards achieving the goal.

Alcobrewans also, ‘BUILD THE VALUES’ that they would like to nurture within the company. The Value statement was coined by all the participants. It was pledged that Alcobrewans will ensure that they live, exhibit, and grow on the values defined. Alcobrew strives  for excellence through transparent working culture, a desire for continuous motivation, wisdom of commitment towards goals and respect for all its stakeholders.  There was an evening get together and defreeze session with some good peppy music, dance and shots of whisky & beer!!

the physics vs philosophyI am trying to put forward two different aspects of the formation of the world in front of the readers one derived from the mathematical derivations called experimental world the world of physicists and the other one from the world of philosophy. I don’t want to derive any inference or result from the two different theories. I leave it to the readers to make some sense out of this.

Big bang theoryThe question most enthralling to a human mind could be “was universe ever existing or is there a beginning and an end to the phenomenon called universe.”Hubble reveals that there are 100 billion galaxies but they further clarify that the number of these observable galaxies will go up to 200 billion once the telescope technology in space improves. Each one of these galaxies further comprises of more than 100 billion stars. Comprehending this mammoth phenomenon is beyond an average mind. It becomes more arduous to understand the things when modern scientists tell us that intelligence is all pervasive even cross the inert entities as well.Christian clergy until 16th century believed that the earth is center of this universe and everything is marginal and now we know our solar system where the sun the nucleus is just one of the stars in our milky way Galaxy and the earth is just one of its orbiting planets.The journey of science which may also be called the Experimental world started some 500 years back and the first scientist who was captivated by the existence of galaxies was Nicholas Copernicus who was a cathedral administrator. Copernican came up with a theory called heliocentrism published in 1543. It positioned the Sun near the center of the Universe, motionless, with Earth and the other planets orbiting around it in circular paths. He also determined that the Earth rotates daily on its axis and that the Earth’s motion affected what people saw in the heavens. Copernicus did not have the tools to prove his theories. It was Kepler who modified his theory by saying the paths on which the planets were revolving round the sun were not circular but elliptical. It was Galileo who proved that Copernicus was right when he said that the sun was the center and not the earth.We have come a long way and today can mathematically derive the meaning of so many

things embedded in the nature and these mathematical derivations are called the scientific laws. Newton was amongst the first scientists to have formulated the laws of nature, the Newton’s laws of motion and laws of gravitation being the famous ones. One of the most important contributors to the aspect of scientific discoveries was Einstein who in his theory of special relativity, determined that the laws of physics are the same for all non-accelerating observers, and he showed that the speed of light within a vacuum is the same no matter the speed at which an observer travels.General relativity is a theory of space and time. The theory was published by Albert Einstein in 1915. The central idea of general relativity is that space and time are two aspects of space-time. Space-time is curved when there is gravity, matter, energy, and momentum. Quoting Wikipedia “Lemaître was a pioneer in applying Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity to cosmology. In a 1927 article, which preceded Edwin Hubble’s landmark article by two years, Lemaître derived what became known as Hubble’s law and proposed it as a generic phenomenon in relativistic cosmology. Lemaître was also the first to estimate the numerical value of the Hubble constant.Einstein was skeptical of this paper. When Lemaître approached Einstein at the 1927 Solvay Conference, the latter pointed out that Alexander Friedmann had proposed a similar solution to Einstein’s equations in 1922, implying that the radius of the universe increased over time. (Einstein had also criticized Friedmann’s calculations, but withdrew his comments.) In 1931, his annus mirabilis,[45] Lemaître published an article in Nature setting out his theory of the “primeval atom.”[46]Friedmann was handicapped by living and working in the USSR, and died in 1925, soon after inventing the Friedmann–Lemaître–Robertson–Walker metric. Because Lemaître spent his entire career in Europe, his scientific work is not as well known in the United States as that of Hubble or Einstein, both well known in the U.S. by virtue of residing there. Nevertheless, Lemaître’s theory changed the course of cosmology.

This was because Lemaître:• Was well acquainted with the work of

astronomers, and designed his theory to have testable implications and to be in accord with observations of the time, in particular to explain the observed redshift of galaxies and the linear relation between distances and velocities;

• Proposed his theory at an opportune time, since Edwin Hubble would soon publish his velocity-distance relation that strongly supported an expanding universe and, consequently, Lemaître’s Big Bang theory;

• Had studied under Arthur Eddington, who made sure that Lemaître got a hearing in the scientific community.

Both Friedmann and Lemaître proposed relativistic cosmologies featuring an expanding universe. However, Lemaître was the first to propose that the expansion explains the redshift of galaxies. He further concluded that an initial “creation-like” event must have occurred. In the 1980s, Alan Guth and Andrei Linde modified this theory by adding to it a period of inflation.”The result of above finding of ever expanding universe means that if we go back in time the universe was as big as our galaxy some time back, go further back and you could be accommodating it in a small piece of land and ultimately it means that it has started from a single quantum. And the quantum had embedded in it the four forces of nature- Gravitation, electromagnetism, strong nuclear force and weak nuclear force. All these forces are nothing but in essence a super force which is amply described and explained in “Unified field Theory”.

Sankhya PhilosophyKnow that prakriti (nature) and purusha (Spirit) to be beginningless, eternal varieties. Know also that all changeful objects and attributes (that constitutes the world of daily experience) are sprung from prakriti. ” This is verse 19 of chapter 13 of Bhagwat Gita and is most crucial in understanding the true nature of both Prakriti and Purusha. First of all, both prakriti and purusha are timeless having no beginning, and therefore without end. Next, All things originate in prakriti, and so do their modifications; for the gunas, the primal building blocks of manifestation, themselves are prakriti. As is evident Prakriti is not a part of purusha. She is his shakti or energy. At the time of the final dissolution of creation, the whole of this objective world gets

dissolved into prakriti. This prakriti alone remains and the objective world disappears.Purusha is inert and gets activated when it comes in contact with Prakriti. Purusha by itself can’t create anything.Prakriti manifests itself in the form of this objective world and when she is inactive, she remains in her unmanifest state. From prakriti evolves, in turn, the principles of cosmic intelligence, cosmic ego and cosmic mind, being in fact the three different phases of the same principle, the mind.Speech, mind and intellect cannot describe or understand prakriti because all these are her evolutes and that is why she is called indefinable and incomprehensible. Since the cause always pervades its effects, prakriti pervades all the objective world and its elements. But the purusha, being very subtle, his pervasiveness is even greater than that of prakriti. So the great cause of all purusha which signifies the principle of consciousness pervades both prakriti and its evolute, the objective world and its elements. The virtual creation is due to purusha himself. Prakriti is only his agent.

The above may be summarized briefly as under:-
