MARINA KEY DEADLINE REMINDER: If you do not ex-change or return your old marina key by December 31, you will lose your deposit. MOORAGE SPACES AVAILABLE: Have you considered moorage? Now is the time to rent. There are current-ly vacant slips available. Moorage is $22.50 per year per billable foot, what a steal! BRIDGE CLUB YACHT CLUB NEWS October 31st marked the end of the term for our 2014 Bridge. Our new Commodore, Peter Winterfeld, gra-ciously allowed me to write this month’s Yacht Club News article so that I could report on the final events hosted by this Bridge. At the end of September we held our first BBVYC Coho Salmon Derby at Roche Harbor. Six boats attended, hosted by our Vice Commodore, Bob Webber, and first mate, Pat. Bob reported that over 50 Coho salmon were caught and Larry VanderYacht took first place and took home a handsome trophy and bragging rights. Congratulations Larry! Participants enjoyed a delicious (you guessed it) Coho salmon BBQ dinner prepared by Pat Webber and friends. Eighty people attended our Commodore’s Ball which was held at the beautiful Bellingham Golf and Country Club the first weekend in October. Our Tuscan-inspired theme was “Bella Luna”. We began the even-ing with drinks, appetizers and a silent auction. In be-tween bidding on the 40+ auction items, several peo-ple took advantage of the fabulous weather by visiting and snapping photos on the deck overlooking the stun-ning golf course. After a delicious dinner our 2015 Bridge was sworn in, auction winners were announced and we danced the night away to the wonderful music of Double Trouble and friends. My thanks go out to everyone that helped make the evening possible. Special recognition goes out to Judy Ogden who created our beautiful centerpieces and decorated the tables and auction area, Mary K Hecker and Marsha Murkowski for helping Judy and me set up on Saturday morning; and Bob Ogden, Russ and Mar-sha Murkowski for helping schlep the auction items and decorations to and from the country club. Our October education night was the final event host-ed by our 2014 Bridge. I couldn’t think of a better way to end our term than with a trip across the Atlantic! Forty people attended to hear Past Commodore Rick Whitaker talk about his experience crewing on a sail-boat delivery from Jacksonville, Florida to Cork, Ire-

WINE SOCIETY For November, the month of Thanks-giving and family food traditions that span generations, the Birch Bay Wine and Food Society is going home. Home, that is, to the comfort foods we grew up with--or wish we had.

And what will we taste with those wonderful home recipes? Pinot Noir, the wine that goes with every-thing. The tasting is our usual third Friday of the month, November 21st, at 7:00pm, and the cost is $20 per person to cover the cost of wine. To sign up, con-tact Jenise Stone at 371-8610. In October, we had a great time comparing nine differ-ent grape varieties. Guests submitted guesses on each wine, and the person with the most correct guesses got to take home a bottle of the group's #1 favorite wine that night, the 2012 Bogle Phantom (a zinfandel/petit sirah blend). The winner was Jim Macmillan. Plans are also underway for the Society's Christmas dinner on Saturday, December 20th, a four course sit-down Southern Country Christmas meal. Guests will be served at their tables with wines matched to each course after a champagne social hour with passed hors d'ouvres. The cost, all in, will be $45 per person. YACHT CLUB NEWS CONT’D land. Rick’s pictures, video and stories were fun and entertaining. That ends my report of October Yacht Club events. Be-fore closing I’d like to say that it’s been an honor and a pleasure to serve as your Commodore for 2014. I’ve had so much fun getting to know everybody and Tom and I have made many new friends. The members of my Bridge were amazing and I can’t thank them enough for all that they did. In addition, the year was a success due to the contributions of our committee members and volunteers. Thank you! I leave you in the good hands of Peter Winterfeld and the rest of the 2015 Bridge. I’m confident that this coming year will be amazing under their leadership but remember, they can’t do it alone. Please help keep the club strong by volunteering to serve on a com-mittee or by helping at events or on cruises. SOCIAL CLUB NEWS Regular Meeting: The Social Club meets at 1:00pm on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Clubhouse. You are invited to attend our next meeting on Novem-ber 10th at 1:00pm. Come join us for coffee, tea and treats while planning the winter events. If you have any questions regarding the Social Club, please contact the Chair, Carol Macmillan at 371-2933. Trunk or Treat: Thanks to all who participated and helped with the first Trunk or Treat Halloween in Birch Bay Village. We would appreciate feed-back from par-ticipants as to whether to hold this event again next year.

Winter Coat Drive: Birch Bay Village residents were very generous, do-nating over 75 coats, scarves, hats and gloves, to be distributed to those families in need in our com-munity. Your generosity is very much appreciated by the Blaine

Food Bank, the Community Assistance Coalition, and the Social Club. Social Club Breakfast: This popular Breakfast will be served on November 1st from 8:00am to 10:00am at the Clubhouse. Come bid the “snowbirds” goodbye and join us for a hearty breakfast of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes, fruit, sweet rolls, juice, hot chocolate, coffee and tea. The cost is just $5 for adults and $2.50 for kids 12 and under. Please bring a few items for the Food Bank to share with those in need. Movie Night at the Clubhouse: Movie Nights for adults has resumed at the Clubhouse. The next movie night will be on November 18th at 7:00pm. Watch the Read-er Board for the name of the movie to be shown. Bring your favorite drinks as no beverages are served. Pop-corn will be provided. As always, your ticket to the movie is a few items for the Blaine Food Bank. Bunco: Due to the holidays, there will be NO Bunco in November or December. Bunco will resume in January 2015. See you in January 2015!!

SOCIAL CLUB CONT’D Thanksgiving Dinner: Thanks to Linda Lockie, Thanksgiv-ing Dinner will again be served on November 27th at the Clubhouse at 2:00pm. Linda has agreed to organize and coordinate the dinner planning. The Social Club will be providing the turkeys and gravy as well as coffee and tea. If you are interested in attending, please con-tact Linda at 371-8256 so she can let you know what is needed, such as side dishes, appetizers, salads, and desserts. You are welcome to bring your own favorite beverages. See the flyer in this Bulletin for further de-tails. We wish to say “Thank You” to Jenny Taylor for organizing this dinner for BBV for six years!! Up Coming Events in December: Holiday Decorating: Please join us in decorating the BBV Clubhouse for the holidays on Monday, December 1st at 10:30am. All are welcome to join the holiday elves in making the clubhouse look festive. A soup luncheon will be served following the completion of the decorating. Soup will be provided but please bring a side dish to share. The Monday Mah Jongg group has generously given up their regular games that day so the Clubhouse can be decorated – Thanks!! The Blaine High School Choir: This wonderful music group will perform Christmas music and lead a sing-a-long on Sunday, December 14th, at 7:00pm in the Clubhouse. The December Bulletin will have all the holiday details. The Giving Tree and Christmas Cookie Exchange details will be included in the December Bulletin. Welcome Committee: If you are a new owner in the Village and haven’t been contacted by the Welcome Basket lady, please call Judy Lackey at 371-3387. We have a warm welcome and gift basket full of goodies and local information we would like to deliver to you. Judy is asking for donations of small items for the wel-come baskets, such as decorative note pads, fancy pens, decorative cocktail/regular napkins, vases, tea towels, candles and holders, liquid soaps or lotions, and medium to large sized baskets. Helping Hands: We have a good group of volunteers who are available to provide temporary assistance to those in the Village who are sick, recovering from sur-gery or otherwise need help. We also have a good sup-ply of medical equipment such as crutches, electric scooter, wheel chairs, shower chairs, walkers, and toi-let risers, etc. There is a folding wheel chair ramp avail-able for short-term loan. The Social Club is looking into purchasing a kneeling scooter and bed rails for use by BBV residents. These may be available for borrowing in December. If you or someone you know needs a "helping hand," please call Sheryl at 371-3505. Please remember to call Sheryl when borrowing or returning all equipment. And thank you for returning it in a sani-tized condition. Food Bank Donations: The need for Food Bank dona-tions is ongoing in our community, especially with the holidays approaching. Please check your cupboards and pantries for those extra food items that can be do-nated to the community food bank. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Clubhouse any-time it is open for any event. Please do not bring food that has an expiration date prior to November 2014. The Food Bank now has a bin next to the Blaine Food Bank entry door for clothing donations. With cold weather coming soon, donations of shoes and clothing in good condition are appreciated. No need to wait until the clothing store is open!

Golf Club updates – Here are the latest developments since the Fall General Meeting: Change in Secretary position: Bill Duncan was ap-

pointed by President Jim Macmillan as Secretary, taking over the Secretary duties from spouse Rosalind Duncan by mutual consent.

Purchase of fairway aerator: A fairway aerator was purchased (within the $5,000 cap) and gifted by the Golf Club to the Village. The BBV Board of Directors accepted the aerator at its meeting on October 16. Steve Brand has used it to good effect, completing the entire course in less than a day (compared to several weeks using the “greens aerator”, resulting in less wear and tear on the latter) and doing a much better job in the process.

2015 Membership sign-ups: To ensure continuing membership in the BBV Golf Club and to appear in the 2015 Golf Club booklet, be sure to submit your applications/updates and $5/person dues pay-ments by April 1, 2015. Applications can be ob-tained from, and payments made, at the Golf Shop (open on “good weather” weekends during the winter!) or Jim Macmillan (360-371-2933; jimchem1@comcast.net). New members are en-couraged to join and existing members need to re-new and/or provide updated contact information by/before April 1.

November is the month that we all feel so grateful for our family, friends and good neighbors! Pizza Night has been a strong community gathering since 2003. Our hosts have been such diligent, caring community spirits month after month. Thank you to Bobbi and Gary Ah-mann, Jerrylynn Barney and Judy and Terry Sullivan for hosting Pizza Night over the years. Pizza Night will not gather the months of November and December. We will resume our regular schedule the 3rd Monday of every month in January, providing a new host/hosts come forward. If you would like to contribute to the community, please step forward to host this great event once a month. Mick and I have been involved with Pizza Night since 2003 and have enjoyed our time with all the great peo-ple. It's time for us to move on and let someone with new found enthusiasm become the new host of the Pizza Night. Thanks to all our friends and neighbors! Char and Mick

And golfers, with winter weather now here, please be aware that motorized carts will, eventually, be restrict-ed to “cart path only” operation due to wet conditions (watch for signs).
