NATIVITY OF OUR LORD December 25, 2016 From the Pastor’s Desk Del Escritorio Del Pastor The Christmas season has arrived. Perhaps it is the most familiar time of year for us as Christmas brings wonderful memories or sad memories. During this time, there are normally many preparations. I invite you to open your heart to generosity and to share. It is easy to be generous and share with your family, your friend, your coworker, your classmates and your children. But it is difficult to open your heart to someone who is a stranger. Let us make a difference this Christmas season. There was a seminarian who studied with me. When Christmas approached, he would go out to sell his school books. One day I asked him why he would do that—did he need the money? He re- sponded, “A sick man needs the money to buy his medicines.” In life, you always have something that someone else needs and someone else has what you need. It is wonderful how at Christmas time we remember to share, including what we are lacking and we discover the true joy of living Christmas. Perhaps we are not in a position to have many possessions, but we have something to give. We think that the only thing we can give during this season is material items. There is much more to share—especially a word of encouragement and hope which is missing in this world full of lone- liness and lacking in love. Your family may be waiting for Christmas presents, but more important that the presents is your presence and kindness. Someone hopes that you are friendly, sincere in your friendship, a good friend and confident, someone they can confide in. Open up your heart and receive God’s blessings in your life and let God use your life so that this Christmas and everyday of your life you are a blessing to others.

From the Pastor’s Desk

Del Escritorio Del Pastor

The Christmas season has arrived.

He re-sponded, “A sick man needs the money to buy his medicines.”

In life, you always have something that someone else needs and someone else has what you need. It is wonderful how at Christmas time we remember to share, including what we are lacking and we discover the true joy of living Christmas.

Perhaps we are not in a position to have many possessions, but we have something to give. We think that the only thing we can give during this season is material items. There is much more to share—especially a word of encouragement and hope which is missing in this world full of lone-liness and lacking in love.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

“And the Word became flesh” John 1:14

Jesus is God’s ultimate gift of love to us. The countless other blessings that God showers upon us are noth-ing compared to the gift of His only Son. The only appropriate way for us to respond to such generous love is with our own generous love. When we dedicate our lives to sharing all the gifts God has placed in our hands, the peace of Christ truly will control our hearts and we will know Christmas joy every day.

St. Vincent De Paul Society Christmas Tree

IT’S NOT TOO LATE ...

for YOU to help our truly needy families here

at St. John’s parish by taking an ornament from

the Christmas tree at the entrance of the church and

donating what you can to St. Vincent de Paul

this Christmas Season.

“Only, we were to be mindful of the poor, which is the very thing I was eager to do.”

Galatians 2:10

Did You Give Christmas Cards This Holiday Season?

The Clerical Endowment Fund, promoted by the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic Women is a fund set up to help our Bishop edu-cate young men for the priesthood and help provide building loans for the diocesan parishes. Both the individual who donates and the person who is remembered share in the spiritual favors through monthly Masses offered by the Bishop, CEF director and daily by the seminarians in their special intentions.

Mass and Prayer Remembrances are a wonderful way to recognize any occasion. Special Christmas cards are available in the church office for $2.00 along with the regular cards: for either $2.00 individual or $5.00 for a couple.

They are also available by contacting Barbara Haenel, Parish chairman, at 512-393-8688.
