2019 EBE NSW HSC Trial Examinations   This year EBE NSW will continue to produce our popular HSC trial Business Studies, Economics and Legal Studies examinations. All examination papers are written by EBENSW Directors. The 2019 order form is available on the EBE NSW website. Past EBE NSWHSC trial examinations are also available for purchase and are excellent ways todevelop examination technique for your students. EBE NSW members can purchase theexaminations at special member prices. See the EBE NSW website for more information.   When will the new Commerce syllabus be released?   With regards to the 2018 draft NESA Commerce Syllabus, in addition to our submission,I also attended a number of expert meetings at NESA (together with a number of otherEBE NSW Directors). At these meetings Directors advised the syllabus project team asthe final syllabus was being developed, using feedback we gained about the draftsyllabus from our members. The new Commerce syllabus will be released later thisyear. EBE NSW will be conducting professional development courses based on the newsyllabus after it is released.   Are you teaching HSC Business Studies? If so, are you teaching outcome H8?   One of the outcomes of the  NSW Education Standards Authority HSC Business Studiessyllabus (2010) is that “the student organises and evaluates information for actual andhypothetical business situations” - H8. For each of the HSC topics “students learn toinvestigate aspects of business using hypothetical situations and actual business casestudies to……”.   EBE NSW received a query from a newspaper journalist asking about the way the casestudy component of the HSC Business Studies course was taught at a NSW high schoolafter they received complaints from parents and students that case studies were notadequately covered during Business Studies lessons.   All Business Studies teachers and students should be integrating case studies duringlessons as per the syllabus ( see above). In  the NESA HSC Business Studies examination(Section IV) , students are informed that “your answer will be assessed on how well youapply relevant business case study/studies and contemporary business issues” .

Engineers tell us that 50% of construction is in the foundation stages. Effective teachingand learning also depends on the quality of the teaching and learning that has occurredin previous stages. We are confident that these courses will help teachers improvestudent learning outcomes in their classrooms as they teach the Preliminary foundationcourses and as they build on this in term 4, when the HSC courses begin. EBE NSW willbe running courses for teachers teaching the HSC Economics, Business Studies andLegal Studies courses for the first time later this year.
