Interim Reports For All Students Interim Reports have been completed for ALL P-12 students and will be distributed on Monday. This will be the first time P-4 students will receive an Interim Report, and this gives parents an overall snapshot of their child’s progress over the past term. The Interim Reports are also available to view on Compass at any time. Students are given a level of “Excellent”, “Very Good”, “Good”, “Acceptable”, “Needs Attention” or “NA” for the criteria of “Progress on Class Activities”, “Use of Class Time”, “Behaviour” and “Homework”. Love To Paint? - Brief Friday Afternoon Working Bee From approx. 1:30pm tomorrow there will be a short working bee to focus on the painting of a couple of small areas around the College. If you may be able to spare a small amount of time to assist with this task, please make contact with the College Office in the morning. Informing The College Of Student Absences It would be appreciated if all families could endeavour to inform the College Office of student absences in a timely manner. This can be done in person, via the telephone or electronically. When doing so electronically, please either use the College Skoolbag App or email the College on the school email account rather than via personal staff email accounts. The College email is – [email protected] R U OK? Congratulations are extended to our wonderful Student Representative Council for their promotion of R U OK? Day today. Students from Years 4 to 12 visited all P-12 classrooms this morning to reiterate the importance of ‘checking in’ with those around us. Students in the junior-school focussed on feelings (particularly happy and sad), whilst our middle-years students focussed on ‘helping someone’ and our senior-school stu-dents focussed on the four-step process of checking in on your mates (1. Ask, 2. Listen, 3. Encourage Action, 4. Check-In).

COLLEGE FETE—WEDNESDAY 19th SEPTEMBER Starting at 10am until 2pm
Across the school today, signage has been prominently displayed and many conversations have taken place at all levels in regards to the importance of talking about our feelings. Maybe take the opportunity today to turn to someone you care about and simply ask ‘Are you ok?’ Let’s Talk About Things That Are Important… Respectful language, kindness, care, bullying, mental health, respect, emotional intelligence….. Discussions around these important topics has got to start somewhere and what better place than school, home and the work place? Throughout term 4, we are very keen to raise the profile and understanding of top-ics/subjects that we sometimes have trouble discussing (ie mental health), or think that everyone understands when they possibly don’t (ie bullying or showing kindness). We cannot just simply assume in a school setting that every child has the same level of understanding when it comes to these topics and through raising awareness and talking about things in a consistent manner, we can build an understanding of what the expecta-tion is at East Loddon P-12 College. You will also have expectations in the home or in your own work place, sporting club or the like. These expectations may be around language, interactions and/or behaviours and it is important that we consistently reflect upon these expectations and on the reality of what we display, allow or ‘sweep under the carpet’. Throughout this week it would be great if families undertook a relatively simple ‘homework’ task. See if you can have a meaningful conversation around the dinner table about the following question - What is ‘RESPECT’? There is a mailbox in the College Office for anyone who wishes to share their responses with the College. Parent Opinion Survey – Thankyou To All Who Provided Feedback Thanks are extended to all parents who were able to successfully submit responses for our parent opinion survey. We look forward to receiving this feedback by the end of term and reflecting on our College from the perspective of our parent cohort. Get Your Kettle On! – Let’s Help Georgia Get To Spain!!! A ‘Go-fund-me’ page has been set-up for our champion kettle-bell lifter and year 9 East Loddon P-12 College student Georgia Welsh. Georgia is a current world champion and is aiming to travel to Spain in November to defend her title, after excelling in world championship event in Denmark (2016) and Italy (2017). Georgia’s fam-ily are the type that do a tremendous amount for others, being involved in many voluntary roles within the community. We would now love to be able to do something wonderful for them and assist in getting Georgia to her next world-level event. A proportion of these points can be donated to a local organisation of your choice, with the College looking at becoming one of the organisations that shop-pers can support. COLLEGE FETE—WEDNESDAY 19th SEPTEMBER Starting at 10am until 2pm
Assistant Principals News
If it’s not going to rain, it may as well be like this. What a top spell of weather this week. It serves as a bit of a
reminder that next term is a hats outside term. Please dig out your child’s green bucket or broad rim hat,
give it a wash if necessary and have it in the bag, ready to go for day 1, term 4. We always have a bit of
leeway for this, but essentially we shouldn’t need to. Start wearing them now if you like. If you can’t find the
school hat, we will have them on sale at the College.
Not sure if you are aware of this but……. ITS FETE DAY NEXT WEDNESDAY whoop whoop. This usually heralds
a bucket load of rain and cold weather. Last fete was the start of flood season. This year it’s going to be
different though. We are expecting 170 C so that should be pleasant. Here’s some things to prepare for……
The Year 6’s are running a hole in one comp with the help of keen golfer and groundsman Ricky Wright.
Anyone can play even if you are terrible at sport. You simply buy a golf ball for a dollar, put your name on it
in texta, pop it in the bucket of Ricky’s front end loader, then he will tip the bucket toward a golf hole.
Closest to the hole wins. They will have a few goes during the day with voucher prizes and a grand prize at
the end of the day, being a ‘Mystery Flight’. Actually it’s not that much of a mystery. Ned’s dad has a plane
and he will take the winner for a joy flight over our district. Spew bag included.
EastLoddibald Prize has caused some nervousness amongst participants and prospective participants. Please,
please, be reassured, it doesn’t matter whether your picture looks like the subject. Any art gallery is living
proof of this. Just get it done and get it ready by fete day. Judging will be in the hands of attendees at the
fete, so anyone can win it.
Last call for rocker cover racers too. Get them in. Whilst you are at it, get baking CREAM PUFFS are on the
menu this year. There has been a few discussions about what these are as there are clearly a few versions of
what constitutes a cream puff. If you are a baker, enter your own version. We will decide if it is the best or
not. Maybe yours is like an éclair, maybe more like a sponge kiss, it’s up to you.
In footy news ‘ha ha Geelong and Sydney’.
Other than that, there’s not much on. Just winding down to the holidays.
See you all at the fete, bring nanna and pop along for the day.

Calves in the College We had two gorgeous calves arrive at the College this week! A big thank you to the Hicks family for lending us two calves (names TBC) for the last two weeks of term. Our Year 9 and 10 students have put in a HUGE effort with Mrs Maxted to plan and build some impressive structures to house our calves and have been working on projects in class to match. As they say, many hands make light work and we’ve had a great deal of volunteers from lower primary all the way through to senior secondary to help feed our calves twice a day! I was lucky enough to take 5 boys from Grade Four out yesterday afternoon! It was a bit slobbery, but fun all the same! If you’re around for the fete, take a walk over near the pizza ovens to say hi to our fury friends! Miss Pilkington Science Co-Ordinator
In Week 3 of next term, 5 Grade 5 students (Ava, Marley, Lachie, Chloe and Matilda) will attend the 2018 Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids conference. These five students will present a workshop titled ‘water doesn’t grow on trees’ which will be based around the importance of water for our rural farming communities. These students have already put in a large amount of work in planning and preparing their workshop and have made some great progress. As we get closer to heading to the conference we will be inviting students and teachers to participate in our workshop.. We have been extremely fortunate to have two groups sponsor this conference which has made it possible for us all to attend. We would like to thank, Coliban Water for their financial support and their knowledge in all things water! We would also like to thank AW Harvesting for their financial contributions and expertise on all things farming and water related. Without people like this, our attendance at state wide conference’s like this would prove far more difficult!

) Literacy Hints
We select books for different purposes. Challenging tests. On occasions, teachers will ask students to read a challenging text, the main reason for this is for assessing what strategies the student know and uses. It is important that these texts are used sparingly as they can create frustrations. Instruction texts These texts are used specifically to teach student to use strategies such as making informed predictions and implementing monitoring strategies. Easy texts These texts are useful for building confidence, and when the focus is on developing features such as fluency, use of punctuation and a ‘reader’s voice. We often encourage beginning readers (Prep and Year 1s) to have and share an Instructional and an Easy book, the latter for the reasons men-
tioned above. Please don’t worry if your child has a familiar book a few times, it is only when they know it from memory that it’s certainly time for a change. Department School Nurse Visit Thanks for returning permission forms (Preps and teacher referrals). The nurse has completed two days and will return tomorrow week to complete the testing. Parents will be notified of the results. Detecting problems with either vision or hearing can make a significant difference for children. Please have your child’s vision tested every second year. Prep Sounds in Focus This week our Preps are consolidating the following sounds: ‘Ss’ as in ‘Seals swim, seals slide’ (including the ends of words such as miss, mess and toss), and the ‘Ff’ (f and ff) as in ‘Five fat fish). Words in Focus Our words this week revolve around our Maths money theme ‘Shops and Shopping’ and include: money, coins, dollars, cents and buy. SRC Initiative R U OK?
This morning members of our SRC visited our classes to share the
message R U OK? And how we can support each other when we’re
having an ‘ordinary’ day. They introduced us to a great kid’s video
with a catchy song and message, it’s well worth taking a moment to share as a family.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09qk0lXTfi4 Thanks to our SRC and Ms Harrington for showing how much you care.

CHAPPO’S CHAT SPACE My work at East Loddon P-12 College is to be a listening ear, to offer support, give information, counsel, offer practical assistance, refer to outside agencies and provide advocacy when necessary. I find the work both very challenging and a privilege, as I am allowed into a place of intimacy in relationships that few experience. I have now been the Chaplain at East Loddon College for the last 11 years. The annual amount of federal funding has not altered in that time. The annual funding is now no longer enough to cover the costs of having a chaplain and therefore the College is now hav-ing to subsidise the cost to meet the annual fees. To assist the College in covering the short fall in funding our Chaplaincy program, the Chaplaincy Committee is holding a raffle to be drawn at College Fete on the 19th of September. 1st prise is a Megaboom Portable Bluetooth Speaker
2nd Prise is a JBL Wireless Bluetooth Headphones
3rd prize is a food hamper
I would encourage you all to get behind this fundraiser so as to assist our College in covering some of the shortfall for this vital program in our College. If you have a book of tickets could you please have your books and money into the College office no later than Monday the 17th of September. Our Chaplaincy Committee is in the process of being reformed. The Chaplaincy Committee is vital organization in assisting the Chaplain and helping the College raise the extra funds to cover the short fall of monies needed to keep the program in the College. We are having a community meeting on the 18th of October at 12.45 at East Loddon P-12 College to reform the Committee. If you would like to be part of this committee or to come and give some input, please accept this as your personal invitation to attend. FROG

KFC – Kids Friday Club Term 3
KFC this term has been enjoyed with lessons in how God is powerful, a healer, transformer and a protector ! The crafts have followed this theme with a boat in a storm, caterpillar/butterfly and a frog.
All Prep to Year 6 students are welcome to come along to KFC. For registration forms/KFC newsletters or en-
quiries please contact one of the leaders listed below.
During Term 3, KFC will be running its annual fund raiser for charity. We usually do a ‘Loose Change Chal-
lenge’ (collect loose change) but this year we are supporting 2 Pairs Each. Josh Berry, a 12 year old boy,
started 2 Pairs each when he was 9 in an endeavour to care for the homeless by supplying pairs of warm
socks. His aim is to provide 50,000 pairs of socks and is on track with nearly 19,000 pairs already. So, KFC chil-
dren can either collect Loose Change to buy socks or purchase the socks themselves and bring them to
KFC during Term 3.

'Understanding Teen Sleep and Its Impact on Learning and Mental Health' Dr Chris Seton
Topic Summary
This presentation details the multiple factors that cause teens to be chronically sleep deprived
which results in multiple physical and mental health problems. Teenagers place little value on
sleep, and are generally poor sleep managers. Learn how to implement strategies that build
resilient sleep, which in turn protects teenagers from stress induced mood disorders and opti-
