Dear Mums, Dads, Students and Friends It is hard to believe that we are already nearly half way through Term 1. We have received the enrolment and attendance data for the first 4 weeks of the term and it was pleasing to see that the attendance rate for students was over 95%. Hopefully this trend will continue for the remainder of the year. Friday 26
th February - The Professional Learning Day for teachers is
on Friday and there will be no class programs on this day. Hopefully all parents will by now have made alternative arrangements for the care of their children for this day. Professional learning days are very important for teachers and give us the opportunity to learn together and from each other with the goal of improving outcomes for our students. House Captains Congratulations to those students who have been elected as House Captains and Vice Captains. A list of the House leaders is included in this newsletter. We look forward to seeing the House Captains organising events and leading the House teams. Life Education This week we have had Life Education lessons for all classes. Suzi Spedding has included information about lessons she has taught on the back page of this newsletter. Golf Next week we will be starting golf lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays for years 3 – 6. There will be four sessions with the final one being held at the Palmerston Golf Course. Last year’s lessons were very successful and the instructor Keith was very impressed with Durack Students behaviour and efforts Literacy and Numeracy Tutoring Program We are investigating the viability of running an after school Literacy and Numeracy Tutoring Program for students initially for students in Years 3 to 6. Please read the information attached to this newsletter and let us know if you are interested.

All Welcome
Life Education at Durack School
It is fantastic to again bring our unique brand of health and drug education programs to Durack School. Hopefully everyone has relayed with
excitement , their experience in the Life Education Van and of course meeting Harold the giraffe. This year each year level has had a tailored module presented which will be followed up in the students Health and PE sessions : Transition to year 4 have learnt in depth about the wonders of the human body and ways to achieve optimum healthy practices. : Years 4-6 expanded on the previous knowledge by learning safe practises of using medicines as well as the short and long term effects of alchol on the body. In Australia alchol remains the number 1 drug which causes the most deaths in the 12-25 year old age group. Each year level has worked on implementing positive communication skills with peers, showing respect, remaining thoughtful and showing kindness to others.
