From the Principal-Mr. Keary Rininger
Hickory Families: As I began to write this last letter for the Hickory Highlights this school year, my mind took me back to August 31st-my first day as principal at Hickory Elementary. It was such an exciting, energetic, and at times overwhelming day. I would not change that day or any of the other days that followed. It has been my pleasure to serve as principal at such an amazing school! I have enjoyed getting to know all of the students, staff, and families at Hickory! I want to thank all of you for making me feel welcome, and I also appreciate all that you do for our school! We have the best PTO, and I want to personally thank all of our board members and volunteers. You are making a huge difference in the lives of so many students by donating your time to our school. If you aren’t currently involved with PTO, then I encourage to consider this for the coming school year. I hope that you all enjoy some wonderful family time this summer! For some great summer activity ideas, go to the link on the bottom of page 4 of this newsletter. I look forward to hearing about your summer fun when students return back to school in late July.
Sincerely,
Keary Rininger
At this time of year, the Hickory Office receives inquiries regarding the attendance policy and the End of the Year Awards for Attendance. We hope the following information will help to clarify our award protocols. Perfect Attendance – This award is earned by attending 180 days in a school calendar year without leaving early or coming in late due to ill, doctor appointment or any other reason. Perfect is perfect! Outstanding Attendance - This award is earned by attending a minimum of 178 of the 180 student days in a school calendar year. Three tardies and/or early dismissals disqualify students from receiving this recognition.

fering their custom- ers the

to click on the link below and follow the instructions,
and before you know it, your normal grocery purchases
will help fund our school.

A reminder that students may not have a negative balance on their lunch accounts. An alternative meal will be provided to students without lunch money in their accounts consisting of a peanut butter sandwich and milk. You may still send in money to deposit in your child’s lunch account. Excess funds will be rolled over for the 2016/2017 school year, if applicable. If your child is leaving the district, you may request a refund via our website at www.avon-schools.org/supportservices. Please contact Diana Batten with any questions or concerns.
