NEW PHONE NUMBER Who ya gonna call? – Not Walliston Primary School on our old phone number. Last week our school was upgraded to the Department of Educations new phone system, and with that we received a new phone number. Our old phone number will divert calls for a short period of time, before it will be disconnected. To contact our school, please dial 08 9291 2000. In reporting student absents from school, please remember that you can still notify our school through the school app or through our school website. INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE This morning will see the beginning of our junior block toilets being dismantled. It is predicted to take about 4 weeks to complete, with majority of the disturbance to occur before and after school hours. Students in Room 1 will require to access their class via the side classroom door, and Room 3 and 6 will still have access through the front doors. CYBERSAFETY WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS Last weekend, the Sunday Times published an article about social media and cyber safety and encouraging parents to be aware of their childrens activities online. In partnership with our school P&C, Paul Litherland who is regarded as one of Australias leading keynote speakers on internet awareness will run a number of workshops next Tuesday 12 th November. Our year 4, 5 and 6 students will participate in an internet awareness workshop with Paul, followed by a staff workshop after school. Paul will then provide a parent workshop for Walliston PS parents from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Further information about Paul Litherlands workshops can be found at https://www.surfonlinesafe.com.au WHAT IS OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY? Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. This Thursday 7 th November, Walliston Primary School will take part in outdoor classroom day. Encouraging outdoor learning helps improve childrens behaviour, whole classes often become excited to learn, and individuals who feel inhibited by the curriculum often thrive in an outdoor environment. Not only does outdoor learning teach critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to childrens enjoyment of childhood. 2019 YEARBOOK Our Yearbook is currently being collated and will feature a page for each class as well as special pages for sport, chaplain, music, graduating students, school life, extension group, special days, art, Italian and many more. Kitchen Garden News

The Room 11 students are busy gardening, weeding,

planting, cooking, problem solving and working together as

a team cooperatively in our Kitchen Garden. We made some

Vietnamese rice paper rolls from produce grown in our

garden. Thank you to Mr Gilders for donating a rustic

wheelbarrow, we are going to use it and then plant some

strawberries & flowers in it. We have also recently been

harvesting our first crop of potatoes which was really

exciting! Happy gardening from the Kitchen Garden Team.

Cyber Safety - with Paul Litherland Surf online Safe

All parents are welcomed to attend the Cyber Safety

Workshop which will be held on Tuesday 12th November at 6.30pm to 8pm in Room 8. This is a great opportunity to take up on, it offers parents a better understanding of

the networks and systems our teens are using and to help them grow online with their kids.

HALLOWEEN

DISCO!

Thank you to all who supported our Halloween Disco last Friday. We had a blast and hope you all did too! A huge THANK YOU to Nat Manganaro and her Team for making it such a great night! Thanks to our MC Mr Gilders, It was truly a team effort with our Year 6’s carving pumpkins, younger year groups decorating them, parent volunteers for the night, not to mention all the behind the scenes arrangements! A Business Shout-out of THANKS to Jimmy Garfield from Stoneville Fresh Supermarket – we had pumpkins for days and it looked amazing! All efforts paid off - The Assembly area was decked out, the Canteen was stocked and the kids AND Parents were up and dancing! Prizes, dance-offs and so much fun was had! Thank you for supporting us and for the Kids’ (and adults!) great costumes – everyone went to so much effort and everyone looked amazing!

A Big Thank you to the members of the Walliston P & C who kindly set a beautiful morning tea for all the hard

working teachers, support staff and Admin staff for Teachers Appreciation Day on Friday 25th October.
