I would also like to welcome our new families who have started at Sherwood Ridge this term and hope that you enjoy being part of our wonderful school community. At the start of this term our Year 5 students travelled to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Kincumber. Feedback from the Camp staff was that Sherwood Ridge students were amazing! Mrs Blacker, Assistant Principal, also spoke highly of our students’ participation and encouragement of others while at camp. She was especially impressed with the number of students who ventured out of their comfort zones, doing things they have never done before. I would also like to extend my thanks to our staff, who on limited sleep, willingly left their families and homes for three days to ensure that our students had the best possible experience. On another note, parents are reminded that with the conclusion of the school's Gymnastics program last term, school sports days are as follows; Kindergarten: Monday Year 1: Various days. Class teachers to advise parents via Homework sheet/DoJo Year 2: Thursday Years 3-6: Friday. NB.“skins” and Representative Sports and Dance jackets/jumpers are not permitted to be worn on any other day. This term will see our school continue with Riding for the Disabled, hold our two Kinder Orientation days, host a visit from the Mobile Dentist, experience the Year 6 Mini Fete, listen to speeches from prospective 2018 Leaders, collect gifts for Westmead Children’s Hospital, a SRC initiative led by Miss Gorjup and Mrs Beatriz and host our annual Presentation day and Community Helpers Morning Tea. At Sherwood Ridge, we remain committed to delivering quality teaching, enrichment activities and much loved school events by outstanding teachers, who are skilled in the art of teaching. We hope that our community are able to share in these and many other experiences not mentioned throughout the reminder of Term 4. We are currently taking enrolments for 2018.Please contact the office staff if you have not yet completed anenrolment application or if you require assistance.

Preparing for Kindergarten

Parents can do a lot to help prepare their child for Kindergartenbefore the big 'first day'. Below is a list of skills that will be usefulfor children starting Kindergarten.

We recognise that not all children will have these skills aseveryone develops at a different pace, so this is intended onlyas a guide so that starting school may be just a little easier.

Encourage your child to attempt the things mentioned below, but don't worry if your child can't do all of them. Talk to theKindergarten teacher, and together you can support and assistyour child's learning.

Personal/Social Skills

SCHOOL SUPERVISIONParents are reminded that formal school supervision beginsat 8.30am each morning and continues during play breaksthroughout the day. At 3.00pm the students are dismissedunder the direct supervision of the staff. Students are expectedto leave the school grounds promptly and where possible, beunder the supervision of a responsible adult or older sibling.

The school understands that many parents have commitmentsat work which require them to leave before 8.30am and orarrive to pick up their children after 3pm. Unfortunately, thereis no staff supervision for students prior to the 8.30am andafter the end of the school day. However, there is availablewithin the school, a Before and After School Care service,Camp Australia which operates, depending on vacancies eachschool day. (1300 105 343)

Parents are reminded that students left unattended in theschool playground will be taken to Before and or After schoolCare for supervision and that this supervision will incur a fee.
