From The Principal’s Desk:Ms. Suzanne Smoley
Principal Headliner, October 2017
TRUST… Parents, you TRUST your St. Rose School teachers and
staff with your children every day. We are loco paren-tis, Latin for “in place of a parent”…and while this is a reference of legal responsibility, at St. Rose School, we
take this term to heart. It implies a huge trust given by our parents and received by everyone here at our school. This trust in our educators, our fellow parents, our volun-
teers, friends, child care providers…this trust leads us to truth that everyone…everyone is doing the very best
they can… This trust leads us to wholeness within this
community of faith and we ARE a community of FAITH. So trust and faith…How do we have faith in each other?
We practice. We are not one dimensional. We are multifaceted hu-
man beings formed in the image and likeness of God. We, as Catholic school educators, strive daily to teach the whole child, we teach the WHOLE person…the
whole human being and that includes the whole family. As professionals, we hold ourselves to strict standards of accountability for the children placed in our care. First
and foremost, we honor the reputation of each child and the sacredness of each soul. The reputation of each child,
teacher, staff-person, and/or volunteer on our campus is a precious treasure. We are a school, a place made for children to develop and grow into the best version of
themselves in order to know, love, and serve God. This is a safe place for learning in every way. This is the
case for each child and every adult. Teachers support
each other in their own professional growth within the
instructional process. We discuss the progress or con-cerns for any child as teachers and administrators with an abiding interest AND with a child’s parents only.
We do not discuss families or fellow teachers. We trust our parents to do the same.
Let us recall then, the A-B-C’s of Mercy… – ASK for Mercy; Always be ready to forgive. – BE Merciful as your heavenly Father is Merciful. – Confidence and
Complete TRUST in God’s Mercy.

Are you interested in becoming an Extraordinary Minister for St. Rose School and Parish Masses? You may ask, what is an Extraordinary Minister? "Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion" is the formal title of a layperson who distributes the Eucharist during Mass. Lynne Brys, Parish Liturgy Coordinator, is delighted to provide anyone interested in serving as an Extraordinary Minister, the preparation needed at a workable time. Please prayerfully consid-er this beautiful ministry. Then if you hear God’s call to serve as an Extraordinary Minister, please contact Lynne at [email protected] or 916-783-5211 x7006 for more details.
Similar to the last few years we will collect our CANS for the KCRA 3 Kids CAN FOOD DRIVE (October 9-October 23) a little differently. We aren't just collect-ing CANS of food. We are providing MEALS for real families in need for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Locker. Our goal? Let's see if every class can feed 30 families: That's 300 cans per class. Start bringing your cans on Monday, October 9. Every class that feeds 30 families will get a pizza party, but most im-portantly we will know we have shown the love of Christ through our service to families in need. Thank you, Mrs. Dickey and the student service team for organizing the drive - as we serve others for the love of Jesus.
NOTE: Canned items only! No soft boxes or soft containers. Cans only.
Red Ribbon Week is scheduled at St. Rose School from Oct. 30 - Nov. 3 with lots of fun activities. This year is a Superhero theme. More information coming soon!

--SCRIP NEWS!: There is a new way for families to check-in on their scrip totals!
As of September 19, 2017, all families will be able to see their scrip total on SchoolSpeak !
St. Rose School has adopted the SchoolSpeak module to track each families’ scrip purchases. As a parent, when you login into the SchoolSpeak website, you will notice a tab on the left side of the screen that reads " scrip ". When you select this tab, you will see your family’s total for scrip purchases. Please keep in mind that these totals are not updated daily, but monthly. Also note, that escrip, benefit mobile and shop with scrip release their report at the end of the fol-lowing month, so those totals will be a month behind.
Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help!
October is here and it marks the halfway point for scrip. We all should be at least at $1500.00 in scrip purchase by now!! December’s Christmas scrip purchases are still ahead of us.
Happy Shopping!
