Mail addressed to the Rabbi, president, treasurer, or MALI is re-

ceived and read within a reasonable amount of time. All other mail

should be mailed directly to the recipient to insure it is read in a timely

fashion. For example, all Sisterhood mail must be mailed to the home

address of the person in charge of the activity that you desire (Calendar,

Mishloach Manot, Wine, Siddurim & Chumashim, etc.). Information

about where to direct your mail is usually included in the flyers.

Thank you for your cooperation.

וְהּוא יְִהיֶה ְבִתְפָאָרה. וְהּוא ָהיָה וְהּוא הוֶה ְ

He was, He is, and He shall be in grandeur

Recited in Adon Olam, each of these declarations in three different tenses, call to our attention the importance of our shared past,

present and future. Our community is marked by a unique bond across the generations who have made Plainview their

home. This continuity, and continual dedication to each other is what gives Plainview its unique character.

V’Hu Haya – Our Past

As a community we are grateful for those who established our community almost fifty years ago. I am thankful to have

had many of these founders as role models, and our community is grateful for the hard work of these pillars, especially

our beloved, Rabbi Moshe Portnoy Z”L and Rebbetzin Shelley Portnoy.

V’Hu Hoveh – Our Present

Our present is strong due to the commitments of our members and the spiritual leadership of our Rabbi and Yoetzet.

Thank you to Rabbi and Yoetzet Weissman for your continued teachings. The Torah you provide us is our true suste-

nance as a community.

Thank you to all of those who served on the outgoing board, as committee chairs, and as volunteers.

OPPORTUNITIES TO CELEBRATE

YOUR SIMCHAS

AND HONOR LOVED ONES !

In the past two years, over 40 leaves were added to the Tree of Life

in the lobby, celebrating bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings, the birth of

children and grandchildren, and other celebrations. Thank G-d, many

of us have had simchas this past year, so why not take this time to

donate a leaf ($72) and add to the growing Tree of Life !

If you are interested, please contact me.

Marty Taub

First, I would like to say Mazal Tov to our new President, David Gross. I know he will do an amaz-

ing job for YIP, and I look forward to working with him in the future. Just like the Shul board, each

Shavuot we elect a new board. I am very happy to continue my role as President and look forward to

working with the amazing women on the Sisterhood board for a second year. I would like to welcome

three new women to our Sisterhood board. After years of helping with Mishloach Manot, Ahuva

Sclair will be continuing the Sclair legacy and co-chair the Mishloach Manot committee with Suri

Gotowner. Diane Pollack has joined Miriam Rafailovich on the education committee , and Shanee

Kirschenbaum has joined Tina Abraham on the Chessed/Social Action committee. Welcome ladies

and thank you for volunteering for these roles.

With the summer approaching we are excited to have a couple of events on the horizon. Starting on

June 4th, we will be having four sessions of Pilates boot camp. Come and sweat with us! On June

20th we will be having a hat sale featuring Bella’s hats, hosted by Shelley Katz. Hope to see all you

fashionable ladies there! Stay tuned for more events to come!

Happy Summer,

Michelle Meir

YOUTH

We could not be more excited as we enter our fourth years as the youth directors here at YIP. It’s been a really

fantastic year, filled with all sorts of educational and exciting youth programs. Here’s a quick glance back at

our action-packed year:

We had some neat arts and crafts activities in preparation for Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot, making Kiddush

cups and tzedakah boxes for Rosh Hashanah, and origami stars and paper chains to decorate our shul Sukkah.

The Kiddush cups were hand painted, quite generously, and while they were immensely colorful they were

likely not suitable for drinking. We also hopped and riddled around town on our annual Sukkah Hop and

hopped some more for Simchas Torah. And of course, we all thoroughly enjoyed our annual Chol Hamoed

Trip to Bounce.

After the holiday rush, we transitioned into our winter phase and took full advantage of early Friday and Sat-

urday nights. We had four different Friday night dinners for every age group from 2nd grade through 12th fol-

lowed by an oneg at our house. We told divrei torah, stories, and imagined we were stranded on a raft in mid-

dle of the ocean with only a handful of random household items. Who would have thought the shaving mirror

was the most critical for survival? We also had two Saturday night learning get togethers, and one Saturday

night movie. One of our learning nights was during a serious snow storm, but that couldn’t keep our youth

away from enjoying Torah, some pizza and marshmallow hot chocolate. But it was a long winter and we just

kept on going. Next, we had 4 Saturday night escape the room adventures for our 5th through 12th graders, and

we were largely successful in escaping. The high school boys managed to break two records: We escaped one

room in under 40 minutes with no clues, and the other room was pretty bad. Fortunately, the rumor that the

walls closed-in was, well, just a rumor and everyone survived and had a blast. We even celebrated as we re-

hashed our every move over carvel and Dunkin Donuts.

For Chanukah, we ventured to laser tag, and for Purim we put on an award-winning mystery sci-fi drama love

story Purim Shpiel. Rumor has it the director is looking to do a sequel, but a handful of the star actors are

holding out for bigger contracts. Our Purim carnival was a blast as usual and our turnout record breaking both

for the youth Megillah reading and the carnival. For Pesach we had a 3 hour arcade frenzy drop off and a ra-

ther unique event – the Hogwarts Breakfast with guest author Rabbi Rosenberg. We also had a few Shabbos

afternoon games in the shul to facilitate childcare during our riveting adult learning programs.

And finally, that brings us to the summer, and most recently we’ve had a really cool pre Shavuot craft event

where we made paper squishes, sand art, and emoji chocolates for Mother’s day. And now that the weather is

beautiful, and Shabbos afternoons are long enough to once again squeeze in some hang out time between the

never ending meals and mincha – we’ve reclaimed the parks of Plainview. The turnouts are impressive and

kids of all ages are playing in perfect harmony, well, except for when our capture the flag games get a bit

competitive. Arguable one of the highlights of our shul, these get togethers showcase the unique social cohe-

siveness of our community.

Lastly, but certainly not leastly, our Shabbat morning programs are looking better than ever. With the advent

of Tot Shabbat we finally can offer a friendly oasis for our exuberant toddlers and their less than exuberant

folks and with super-grand grand prizes our davening volume has soared to new decibel levels. Of course,

many of these enhancing ideas – like Tot Shabbat and raffles and grand prizes have come from you, the com-

munity. So please keep those suggestions and comments and critiques coming, and together, we’ll continue to

raise the bar and create the best youth program in town.

Two Special thank you’s:

To Alan for his dedication and leadership over the last two years as our President. Thank you!

And

To Ken Malc, our very long time treasurer who is handing the mantle over to Jason Goldberg one of our new board

members.

This type of continuity is the lesson of the line in Adon Olam.

V’Hu Y’hiyeh B’Tifara – Our Future

As we look forward to our future, we are always focused on recognizing and maintaining the contributions and lessons

of our past while growing into a bright future. I’d like to share with you my goals for the coming term:

1. Streamline and document shul operations

2. Plan for the future

3. Increase Zionist focused programming

4. Increase Torah Learning and Davening Participation

5. Grow our membership

I’m excited to work with the many volunteers whose commitment keeps our shul running every day. To be successful we need help from the entire community. If you’d like to volunteer for a committee or if you have a great idea I’d love

to talk to you. You can reach me anytime at [email protected]

My dear friends

The comfort and support you have lent to me and my family over these long days of shiva for my brother, Yehoshua ben Chaim Yosef Dovid, is beyond words and defies description. I will never be able to repay my debt to you nor will I even try. I will be back with you after spending Shabbos in Florida with my daughter’s family—a visit planned months ago. Enjoy the Holy Day of Rest to the max! Yours, Lev

Shavuot brings celebration and recognition of our connection to Hashem and the Torah,

and it also marks the YIP tradition of recognizing its new officers and board members. On

behalf of our MALI Board of Directors, we express our gratitude to the outgoing YIP board

and wish Hatzlacha Rabba to all of the new members. So too, our Mikveh board will be pre-

paring for new leadership; Eddie Simpser is steering a committee to update the Mikveh’s by-

laws and its organizational guidelines, and we intend to share more information soon as we

plan for the future of our Mikveh.

We hope to schedule our annual Manicures for MALI event for this summer. This event,

held usually at a local nail salon, has been very enjoyable in the past, and hopefully schedul-

ing it to take place during warmer weather will make it even more appealing.

Please remember to check our website at www.limikveh.org, where you will find every-

thing you need to know about our Mikveh including the latest news, upcoming events, and

donation opportunities. We also send out e-mails periodically; please send a message to us at

maliplainview @gmail.com if you would like to be included.
