A.I.M.February’s mission is Caracole, an organization located in Cincinnati providing safe, affordable housing and supportive services to individuals and families living withHIV/AIDS.

Founded in 1987, Caracole House was the first licensed adult care facility in Ohio forpeople living with HIV/AIDS. Today, Caracole serves more than 1400 people livingin an eight county region in Southwest Ohio with six primary programs. Thoseprograms focus on case management, homeless prevention, and housing options.

Caracole provides medical case management to those living with HIV/AIDS, including addressing medicalneeds other than HIV/AIDS. There is substance abuse and mental health recovery support, assistance withaccessing financial services and legal benefits, and support in maintaining medical care and adhering tomedical advice. Caracole addresses homeless prevention through several of its programs.

Caracole services are free of charge thanks to state, federal and city grants as well as donations fromindividuals, foundations, and the United Way of Cincinnati. People of all income levels are served, regardlessof insurance status.

In addition to the opportunity to provide monetary support to this agency through mission giving in February,we also have the opportunity to donate much needed supplies for the individuals and families served byCaracole. The agency is currently in great need of toilet paper, shaving cream, tooth paste, and tooth brushes. They can also use cleaning and laundry supplies, and new or gently used sheets, blankets, towels. Thesedonations can be placed in front of the altar at church each Sunday in February.

Another way you can support Caracole is by participating in their Dining Out for Life Event on February 3.(Go to Caracole’s website at www.caracole.org for a list of participating restaurants

Please consider a gift, and check the A.I.M. bulletin board in February for more information.

During the month of December $896 was collected for The Christmas Fund.Thank you for your generosity!

The preschool teachers and children are looking forward to the exciting things happening in February.Valentine’s Day takes center stage this month as the children create lovely cards and gifts for their parents! The children also have a “post office,’ in which they can mail letters to other students in their classroom.

We also will be celebrating Chinese New Year presented from one of our past families, Steve and CourtneyTong! The children will have a parade with a dragon and then feast on oranges for good luck. Many funactivities are planned.

The Cincinnati Museum Center will bringtheir 5 Senses Program to our big kids at themonth’s end. Lots of smelling and tasting willoccur. And finally, Spanish classes will alsobegin for the children on Monday’s betweensessions. Wow!

Enjoy the month!

Project 365+ Update

Thank you to everyone that has given a pledge card toward the 2015 stewardship campaign, “Blessed to be aBlessing.” We are truly blessed at Lakeview with faithful members and friends who stepped up to meet theneeds of the church. We have received 40 pledges for a total of $145,017 for the operating expenses.

If you would like to make a pledge to Lakeview, please pick up a card from the table in the Narthex or see me.

I would like to express my appreciation to the 2014 officers of the church who have worked so hard to makethe year a success. Much gratitude is extended to Dave Maile, past moderator/past president of council, for hisleadership, and to Jan and Steve Friedhoff who completed a two-year term as financial secretaries andaccepted another term for 2015-2016. Thank you!

Loves Me Not?

A girl asked a boy if he loved her, and he replied, “Yes, of course.”

“Would you die for me?” the girl wondered.

After a brief pause, the honest lad said, “No, mine is an undying love.”

Barrier then performed a major transaction, withdrawing $1 million and taking it elsewhere. Hegot his parking ticket validated after all.

What a great illustration of the perils of legalism, when man-made laws become more important thanpeople. Jesus repeatedly healed and “worked” onthe Sabbath, much to the dismay of religiousleaders. He was concerned about people’s hearts, not their appearance.

What matters more to you: laws or love?appearance or substance? A heart examination maybe in order!

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

On January 18 many new members were welcomed into membershipat LUCC. We will be introducing you to these new membersbeginning with this month’s introduction of Sarah and Will Huber.Check back in future months to read about all the new members.

Sarah and Will both attended Miami University and are anotherof those renowned “Miami Mergers.” They began dating in 2006 andwere married in 2013, moving to their current home in Maineville atthat time. Sarah left MU with 3 degrees, after just 5 years! She hasBachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Journalism and a Master’s inSpanish as well. Will earned a B.S. in Biochemistry at Miami, and, notto be completely outdone by his wife in the educational arena, he iscurrently working on an Associate’s degree in Winemaking through anonline university program.

Will has had a long-time interest in winemaking and just recently began what appears to be the perfect jobfor a biochemist with a hobby of winemaking. He is now the Quality Control Chemist for Meier’s WineCellars in Silverton. Sarah works for Cengage Learning, a company focusing on “customized learningsolutions” including printed and digital products. She previously worked in Mason for Cengage, but afterher division closed a few months ago, she now finds herself enduring a daily commute to Independence, KYwhere she is a sales consultant.

Will and Sarah are an all-Ohio family! Sarah is originally from Columbus, where her parents and brotherstill live. Will grew up in Findlay, where his dad continues to live. His mom lives in Perrysburg. He has 2sisters who are students at Ohio Northern University and a brother living in Fremont.

Sarah was raised in a Lutheran Church (ELCA), and Will attended a Presbyter ian Church growingup. They were looking for a progressive church and began their quest by doing an online search for“progressive church near Maineville.” Lakeview was the only name that appeared, and after perusing ourwebsite, they were excited to visit LUCC. They first attended worship with us in July, 2014. Theyanticipated that this would be the first stop on their church-shopping journey; however, the extremewelcome they experienced, along with Pastor Todd’s sermons, have kept them coming back! Theyespecially like our pastor’s style of explaining the history of scriptural passages. Will had the courage tosign up to shovel snow in January at LUCC. (So far, so good on this gamble—but the month isn’t over yet!)They are both interested in joining Bell Choir, ushering, and volunteering at the Walnut Hills Kitchen, allgreat ways to serve and get to know people.

When not at work, in addition to winemaking, Will plays in a volleyball league in the summer. He andSarah have recently joined a gym and are working out together , with a trainer . Sarah says that herrole in the home wine production is to drink the wine. She enjoys cooking, and Will enjoys being her tastetester. Sarah is also learning to knit. Two cats complete the Huber household.

We look forward to sharing our spiritual journey at Lakeview with Will and Sarah!

A Cowboy counted his cattle out on the range. He counted 96,but when he rounded them up, there were 100! Think about that--and--here's my "rounded up"Book Sale proceeds report. Thesale produced "about $50." Sunday morning sales/donationswere over $50. Some children's books were donated to our Pre-School. CD's and hardback books left brought "close to $50." at1/2 Price Books! There is a box of paperback books for the

Warren County Jail Library! Thanks for donating, re-donating, and all your help! With that help, I sentChristmas cards (many also donated earlier) and cheer to 170 men and women who needed some joy. Roundedup that comes to " THANKS SO MUCH!"

A few have asked how else they can help. Are you interested in being a "part-time" LUCC representative/friend? Our Ladies Lunch group sends "care cards" to our members to help during stress & celebration times. Ithought volunteers could send occasional cards to some on the mail list. I would call/email you, give the name, address and "issue." You would send a note, or appropriate card, signed "from your Lakeview Friends."

Example: to Ellis or Jim, both diagnosed with cancer, or A.J. whose father just passed away, or other instances. When I write notes at the end of their newsletters, they are so grateful that someone "cares" or "spoke" to them, personally. When a family or friend dies or other tragedy happens, it is hard to deal with alone. A kind word, acard or note helps so much. If you took notice of all the Christmas cards and letters on the Bulletin Board yousaw these are "appreciative people" and God's love and forgiveness is bigger than the worst thing anyone hasever done. That's what we say, but do we act on it?

Imagine being in a cell, 20+ hours a day--only out for an hour in a cage to "exercise" alone, or to walk the"yard" with many others you may fear? Or for taking a 2 minute, cold water shower with 20 others. No chairsor sofas to sit on--just the thin old beat-up mattress you sleep on, or the hard benches at meals. No music, justbanging and shouting, no jobs--or a repetitive one, a few hours, paid less than a quarter an hour. No smiles!Wait, obey, sleep with lights on--wake up every few hours to be "counted"--or told to get out of your "place"so your meager belongings can be searched, taken, broken or left in a mess. Prison is not for Rehabilitation inmost U.S. prisons. It is strictly for extreme punishment, no matter if you are guilty of a heinous crime, a non-violent crime, a thought crime, or even if innocent. You are there and at the mercy of whoever has control. Youcan't believe how much just getting a card, or mail from someone who recognizes you as a human being meansto a person there!

Let me know if you want to try this. I'll work with you, whatever you want to do will be appreciated. Peopletoday are focused on Free Speech and the right to say whatever they want to say--no matter who they hurt! How about we use "Our Free Speech" as a symbol of God's love for those who need to know someone stillcares? Thanks so much, for Lakeview friend's support of our ministry to prisoners.

"Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not!"

Dr. Suess, in "The Lorax".

Providing ProofIf we are to accept the teaching of Jesus at all, then the only test of the reality of a man’s religion is his attitudeto his fellow men. The only possible proof that a man loves God is the demonstrated fact that he loves hisfellow men.

HISTORICAL MARKER

For those of you who appreciate the history of this area, we are hoping to place an Ohio Historical Markeralong the Little Miami Bike Trail halfway between Foster and Loveland this summer at the site ofButterworth Station which was the southernmost station on the Underground Railroad in WarrenCounty. This marker will honor the courage and sacrifice of the Butterworths who for many years shelteredhundreds of runaway slaves and transported them to the next station. These markers are costly (nearly$3000) so I am asking for Lakeview members to help. All donations are tax deductible and for those of youwho give a contribution of $100 or more, you will be entitled to a tour of the stone house built into the side ofthe hill where the slaves were hidden. Make out your check to Warren County Foundation and earmark it"Butterworth Station" and send all donations to the Warren County Foundation, 118 East Main St., Lebanon,OH 45036. Thank you so much for your support. ~Dr. Karen Dinsmore
