The 20-year-old Portadown man had a dream debut in the Newcomers’ A race on the Isle o Man on Saturday, and “set the meeting alight”, organisers said. He  won the title on his rst attempt, the race being seen as a stepping stone to the TT races. Last night his amily said his “star shone or only a short time, but very briefy with much success in his beloved sport”. They added: “His brothers and sisters Tyler, Laura, Jessica, Brian, Rachel and Emily have lost a much loved brother who was a t rue gentleman and sportsman. He was very much loved by his dad, mum, step-mum, grandparents and riends and amily.”  Way ne’s death comes ater two other sporting tragedies on Saturday,  with ellow biker Adrian McFarland losing his lie in a race in the Czech Republic and Ards cricketer Peter Ritchie dying in a road crash. Ryan F arquhar, one o Norther n Ireland’s most senior riders, said yesterday o Wayne’s death: “I don’t know what to say really. It’s just so sad because he was such a young lad.” He added: “It’s a bad time or Irish motorcycling ater what happened with Adrian McFarland as well.”  Wayne was widely regarded as a top uture racer in the making, and was holding third place in the Junior Manx Grand Prix yesterday when he crashed on his third lap, just ater 2pm. By contrast, rst minister Peter Robinson’s car has not been involved in any accidents since the restoration o devolution in 2007. Sinn Fein ministerial drivers have been involved in six crashes since 2007 while only one civil service driver has been involved in an accident during the period. The revelation raises resh questions over why Sinn Fein are allowed to use their own drivers on ocial business.
