Front Cover Mock Ups

After I’d made several mock ups, using advice from the feedback I got from my questionnaire, I asked several people within my target audience what their thoughts on my mock ups. This is the one people liked the most. I chose to use one with this image because it is strong and draws peoples attention. People liked the colour scheme of this front cover and the use of fonts. When coming up with ideas for final covers I also reviewed my deconstructions and compared the conventions with the products I’d made.

One of the main conventions I realized I hadn’t thought about in my initial mock ups was the placing of the mast head; most magazines e.g. Q and NME have their mast heads in the top left corner so that when they are stacked in shops and overlapped the title is clear.

I took this into account when making this particular mock up as well as several others as I felt it was an important factor. I also went back to my original colour scheme which I chose by making a poll and asking friends within my target age group to vote which colour scheme for the title they liked best. People gave me some improvements for this cover too ; they didn’t like the text on either side because the font on the right was hard to read and the black blocks on the left looked too much. Also people thought it’d look better if the mast head was partly behind the image.

So after thinking about how I could improve my front cover based on feedback from my target audience, I made a few change and came up with this. This is my final front cover; I changed the fonts on either side so they are easier to read and I added a button on the left advertising a competition as a lure because I felt the cover needed something more to make people want to buy it. I used a variety of different fonts some of which I downloaded and kept the colour scheme to a minimum because I think it suits my genre more.
