Front cover
Target Audience and genre
The genre of the magazine is dance and it is a clubbing magazine from this I would say that the target audience is 18-25 because of the content of the magazine and the type of music is generally linked with that age group as most people that age will be going to festivals and clubbing and the sort of artists like groove armada will be on.
Main Image
The main image is of Groove Armada which are a alternate dance duo so it links in with the target audience and the way they are lay on the floor and look fairly happy makes the magazine seem casual. Also the way they have colour splashed on them could link to how people look at festivals when they have the face paint.
Model credit
The model credit of the magazine says ‘from castlemorton to the edm explosion featuring’. Castlemorton was a festive so it fits in with the magazine as it says it’s a festive special and this again aims the target audience to the people who ate going to festivals.
Main Cover Line
The main cover line is groove armada in a black box which makes it stand out and the writing in yellow and white, the yellow text links in with the other colours on the magazine and is a different typical colour for the front of a magazine.
Colours/Typefaces/House style
The colours used on the magazine are bright colours and kinks in with the genre of dance and links in with clubbing and festivals. The typeface are all different colours and sizes and some are in capitals and some not which make the magazine stand out a little more.
Masthead
The masthead of the magazine (‘Mixmag) is written in large white font across the top which makes it stand out instead of just being in the corner of the magazine. The colour of the white stands out because it’s not really been used on the cover of the image.
The Gutenberg Design Principle
The Gutenberg principle is used in some way as the Masthead is in the primary optical area and is really noticeable. However though the model credit is in the strong fallow area and majority of the cover lines are in the terminal area. But overall the coverlines are spread out all around the edges.
Coverlines
The other cover lines mirror the main cover lies which make the magazine seem organised. Also the cover lines like ‘festival special’ reinforce the sort of clubbing magazine it is. Also the coverlines on the magazine don’t tend to be on the front of magazine and what magazines tend to be about ’Ibiza’ and ‘creamfields’ so it makes it different and sets the target audience. Also the use of artist like ‘iggy azale’ link to the genre as well.
Banners/Flashes/badges
The banner at the top of the magazine says ‘the world’s biggest dance music and clubbing magazine which gives the magazine some credit and makes it seem like it is a well known and recognised magazine and will make people want to buy it and hook the audience in.
