Look after your waterways;Look after your waterways;
• In quieter areas walk, jog or cycle with a friend or friends whenever possible.
• Always keep young children under supervision.
• Be aware of trip hazards; not all towpaths give smooth, easy walking or cycling.
• If the water appears frozen, never trust the ice to take your weight.
• Do not use the water for swimming; there are risks from hidden
currents, cold water shock, underwater obstacles and waterborne diseases.
• Discarded bottles, cans and other litter can harm or kill wildlife.
Take your rubbish away with you.
• If you spot pollution in the watercourse report this to the
Environment Agency on their 24hr incident line 0800 80 70 60.
• Do not misuse lifebuoys or other safety equipment along
the waterfront, you might stop someone getting help if they get
into difficulty in the water. If you observe such vandalism please
report it to the Police.
Leeds Waterfront is a great area of Leeds with a lot to offer.
Many people enjoy walking, cycling, spotting wildlife and
relaxing on the waterfront, as well as shopping, living and
working in this area. We want people to understand their local
environment and be SAFE when enjoying Leeds’ waterfront.
