Ultimate safety for demanding applications Australia has large deposits of coal seam gas, which is
extracted in extensive projects. For a project in the outback
of Queensland, GF Piping Systems supplied the large-pipe
systems for water supply on the site. Roughly 90 megaliters
of water are created in coal gas extraction. The water is
treated for use in households or in irrigation. A network of
supply lines, connected to a 800 mm PE mains is used to
distribute the water from the retention basin in the
extraction zone to the treatment facilities. To connect these
pipelines, the reliable ELGEF branch saddle system for large
dimensions was selected. The reliability and safety offered
by this established system convinced the customer, thanks
to the fast and easy installation method in trenches as well
as the efficiency achieved through this installation.
System solution makes a differenceThe complete package of branch saddles (800x315 mm)
including branch, pre-welded flange adapters, installation
tools and accessories was pivotal in the cost and time
savings for the installation. The decisive difference was the
unique selling proposition of on-site training in all the
installation steps and the comprehensive project support on
site by local teams of experts.
The Australian company is leading in extracting and producing coal seam gas. For decades already, the supplier has successfully converted coal seam gas into liquefied natural gas. With over 10,000 employees, the company supplies a significant percentage of Australia’s gas, thus impacting the country’s energy sector to a great extent.

According to DIN ISO 1629 standard, the international naming of (Per-) Fluor-
Elastomers has changed from FPM to FKM (FFPM to FFKM), following the ASTM D 1418
standard which already had changed the naming previously. Following these global
regulations, GF Piping Systems will change the naming for all FPM and FFPM Orings
(and products) to FKM respective FFKM. This change does not affect the technical
specification, the product appearance or -quality, simply the naming of the Elastomer
has changed. The change will be implemented in the course of the year 2017 in all
relevant GF Piping Systems products and documentations.

To travel 1200km/h in a capsule that slides through a vacuum pipe is the Hyperloop concept of Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. The concept aim to create a new transportation system capable of transporting passengers and freight. SpaceX has launched a global competition for universities intended to drive forward the development of the technology.
GF Automotive supports students of Swiss university ETH Zuerich in developing and manufactoring a lightweight aluminium component of the pod’s chassis. In August, an expert jury assembled by SpaceX, will decide who will gain admission to the testing circuit in California. We wish the best of luck to our colleagues from GF Automotive!

Rated as attractive employer Again GF made
it among the top 100 of the most
attractive employers in Switzerland.
GF improved to rank 59 in the segment
“Engineering”, which is the best result
so far for GF. The survey was carried
out by Universum, an independent
consultancy and the global specialist in
employer branding. Universum asked
over a million students and young
professionals, in 55 countries around
the world, about their preferences
regarding potential employers, their
career aspirations and also their
communication preferences.
In Switzerland, more than 11,000
students took part in the survey. This
makes the Universum research the
largest employer attractiveness survey
worldwide and in Switzerland.
The Clean Water Foundation was
founded by GF in 2002 to mark the
company’s 200th anniversary. In
the last 15 years, GF has invested
more than CHF 10 million in the
foundation. So far about 130 projects
helped to improve access to clean
drinking water for some 300,000
people around the globe. “The
supply of clean, potable water is one
of the major global challenges. As a specialist in water networks, we understand
how important clean water is,” says Yves Serra, CEO of GF and President of the
Clean Water Foundation’s board of trustees. “That is why we are so pleased to
work with experienced partners to help people around the world receive better
access to drinking water.”
GF supports the foundation with a significant financial donation every year. Rural
communities where the state has little to no presence are the primary target of
the foundation’s support. As the communities themselves are unable to finance
major infrastructure projects, the support in the area of drinking water supplies
makes a huge contribution to improving people’s standard of living. Currently the
foundation supports projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

It is about mateship, the love of a dynamite brew
and a passion for adventure at the Australian
production brew house Capital Brewery in
Canberra. The four main players behind this 100
per cent Australian-owned and independently
operated company are Laurence Kain and
Tom Hertel, who built a reputation for keeping
Australian craft beers on tap when they owned
Honkytonks and Hippo Co.; Nick Hislop, who
specialises in brew house operations and
sustainability; and Rich Coombes, co-founder
of Batlow Cider Co. Then there’s the brewer,
Wade Hurley, who hails from some big-time craft
breweries in San Diego, USA.
There has been serious investment in building a
sustainable brew house and operations. The new
1000 square-metre state-of-the-art brew house
is custom built with equipment imported from San
Diego. A tasting room is being built.
Energy efficienct solution and dedicated team effort from GF AustraliaPerhaps it’s the dedication to the environment
that is most impressive about Capital Brewing
Co., which has been in the making for about 18
months. For example, heat is captured from the
brewing process and reused for future brews,
significantly reducing the amount of water to heat.
The new brew house has one of the most energy
efficient firing systems in the world, a variable
intensity, water-tube steam boiler. “Without getting
too technical, the boiler only burns gas to produce
steam as our brew house needs it,” says Nick.
The Georg Fischer COOL-FIT system transports
glycol cooling fluid to fermentation tanks. It
offers the lowest heat loss of any system on the
market. “Investing in energy efficiency upfront
will seriously reduce our utility consumption and
carbon footprint,” says Nick.
There’s also the six-stage variable drive
refrigeration motor, LED lighting and 60,000-litre
water tank buried underground that captures water
off the building’s roof to take care of
lawns and plants. Plans are underway to install
solar. “We’re moving to using only 100 per
cent recycled aluminium cans with 98 per cent

GF goes to TaiwanFor the very first time, colleagues from
GF Singapore, GF Vietnam and GF Philippines
came together for a mutual team building trip.
For a long weekend at the end of May, their
journey took them to Taiwans beautiful north
around the capitol Taipei. For many it was the
first time they met in person.
To get to know each other and discover individual
skills and experiences the whole team could
benefit from, was the aim of the event. Daily
challenges related to the piping industry (for
example “Spot the pipe”, where the teams had to
photograph all plastic piping systems they could
see in during a day) were a source of great fun.
The trip certainly pushed the team spirit to a new
level and inspired the staff to try even harder in
serving our customers in the best possible way.
“Taiwan amazed
