rom all of us at the Greeley Philharmonic, welcome to our 2019-20 Season! Northern Colorado is so fortunate to have a profes-sional orchestra right here in Greeley, and as Executive Director, it is a privilege to lead an organization with such a rich history in our community.

We are thrilled to present a season that will showcase the talent of our musicians and special guest soloists, including world-class saxophonist Andrew Dahlke and critically-acclaimed singer Jim Curry (performing the music of John Denver).

WELCOME TO THE 2019-2020CONCERT SEASONF

Our season will sweep you off your feet as we travel to the depths of the ocean, explore the sounds of our galaxy, avoid the appetites of vicious dinosaurs, and everything in between.

We are excited to introduce two finalists for our Music Director position – Mr. Scott O’Neil and Mr. Adam Flatt. Scott and Adam will each conduct two of our season’s concerts, with additional concerts conducted by several local guest conductors. You will not want to miss this lineup of exceptional programs, the opportunity to watch and meet our finalists, and the anticipated announcement of who will be our next Music Director.

ABOUT THE GPOThe GPO is one of only a few orchestras in the United States today to reach the elite status of operating for over a century. This accom-plishment is shared with cities much larger than Greeley. The quest for beautiful music was a driving force for the early settlers. We at the GPO carry on that quest to inspire and en-rich our community through live symphonic music.

The Union Colony Civic Center is Northern Colorado’s premier performing arts venue and is proudly owned and operated by the City of Greeley. The UCCC’s Monfort Concert Hall has been home to the GPO for 30 years.

The GPO kicks off its 109th concert season celebrating some of the most famous and prolific composers of all time, including Ludwig van Beethoven and John Williams. Featuring Andy Dahlke, UNC’s professor of saxophone and the Philadelphia Orchestra’s first-call saxophonist, the GPO will take you on a journey through the land and the skies performing John Williams’s Escapades from Catch Me if You Can.

JURASSIC WORLDIN CONCERTWITH THE GREELEY PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRAOctober 18, 7:30 pm Union Colony Civic Center

The Jurassic World theme park lets guests experience the thrill of witness-ing actual dinosaurs. When a genetically modified dinosaur escapes, chaos erupts across the island and it’s up to Owen and Claire to save the park’s tourists from an all-out prehistoric assault.

Now audiences can experience this record-breaking film as never before: projected in HD with a full symphony orchestra performing the iconic score live to picture.

Can you hear music in space? It doesn’t matter - we’re going to take you on a musical journey throughout the stars in Space: The Symphonic Frontier. Join us on this adventure through the galaxy and hear for yourself just how, without Korngold’s Kings Row Fanfare and Holst’s The Planets, John Williams’s Star Wars may not have sounded the way we know it.

POINSETTIA POPSDecember 7, 7:30 pmUnion Colony Civic Center

A tradition unmatched in Northern Colorado, Poinsettia Pops has kicked off the Holiday Season for over thirty years! This holiday concert features The Greeley Chorale and the Greeley Children’s Chorale in a performance of seasonal favorites and beloved carols. The entire family will have fun at this joyous concert in the poinsettia-adorned Monfort Concert Hall.

CHRISTMAS BRASS December 12, 2:00 pm & December 13, 7:30 pm First United Methodist Church

The GPO’s big, bad, brass section takes center stage for this joyful showcase of holiday hymns and carols. Resounding trumpets and triumphant horns resonate in the intimate setting of the First United Methodist Church. It is hard to beat the GPO Brass section in this holiday favorite.

The music of the late John Denver is like an old friend, outlasting trends and standing the test of time. Curry’s uncanny ability to mirror Denver’s voice and clean-cut look takes you back to the time when “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine,” “Calypso” and “Annie’s Song” topped the charts.
