Introduction

FRP COMPOSITES / STRUT C – 01 01/26

General

Strut system is the most widely used because it is the most complete quality line of nonmetallic accessories, fasteners, hangers, pipe clamps and channels available. Strut system is a versatile, high-strength product that can use in nearly every application. Some of those applications include: wastewater treatment, refineries, chemical plants, marinas, pulp and paper, desalination facilities, theme parks, aquariums and underground vaults. Made from entirely nonmetallic, corrosion resistant resins, Fiberglass Strut can be used in demanding environments where steel strut systems have traditionally failed. Its lightweight components can be installed quickly and easily using standard metal working tools. All strut parts incorporate the highest quality materials to provide superior chemical resistance, strength, flame resistance and ultraviolet protection

Materials & Process

Strut channels are manufactured from the pultrusion process.

Strut channels are of pultruded glass reinforced polyester or vinyl ester resin. Glass reinforced strut channels have a synthetic surfacing veil applied on exterior surfaces to improve weatherability and inhibit ultraviolet degradation. An ultraviolet stabilizer is incorporated in the resin formulation to further inhibit ultraviolet degradation.

Structural Design

All strut channels provides reliable fastening and interlocking of strut components and accessories.

Installation & Fabrication

The installation of strut channel and accessories is similar to the installation of metallic channel and accessories. All standard installation practices and procedures apply. In general, special handling is not required. Fabrication of strut components requires just three simple operations: cutting, drilling and sealing.

Strut Embedment Channels

In certain applications, it is necessary to embed a corrosion resistant channel into a new pouring of concrete. For these applications, strut concrete embedment channel is used. Strut embedment channel is available in two material types: polyester and vinyl ester. The polyester and vinyl ester embedment channel is a two piece bonded type design. The embedment channel utilizes two continuous protruding flanges in the profile base to retain the channel in the concrete. Mounting the embedment channel flush with the concrete surface is a convenient way to secure piping, conduits or electrical enclosures to a wall or ceiling.

Channel Fittings

FRP COMPOSITES / STRUT C – 05 05/26

Strut channel fittings are easily attached to strut channels with nuts and fasteners. The fittings are in two types: fabricated (cut from flat stock) or molded. Fabricated fittings are made from either polyester or vinyl ester material. All molded fittings with the exception of the post bases are molded in polyurethane. Post bases are in polypropylene.

Two-Hole Pipe Straps

Strut Two Hole Pipe Straps are designed for use in securing pipe, conduit and ducts to strut channel. Two hole fiberglass straps can also be used independently from the channel for surface mounting. The two hole pipe straps are manufactured from a fire retardant, glass reinforced polyester resin. For extreme chemical environments, the straps can be manufactured from vinyl ester resin.
