Ø Healthy Schools Campaign May 2015- July 2015 Intern Chicago, IL • Creates a grant calendar and other resources for the Fit To Learn program. • Attended a national event for Cooking Up Change in Washington, DC. • Promoted the organization using various outreach techniques.
Ø Public Health Professionals (PHP) Student-Run Organization August 2014- May 2015 Social Chair • Involved in the organizing of National Public Health Week. • Hosted several Public Health events.
Ø Urbana School Health Center January 2014- May 2014 Intern Urbana, IL • Constructed a “Healthy Living” program for students in the 85th percentile BMI range and higher. • Educated students about nutrition and physical activity on an individual level. • Followed-up with students one month after the session; Most lost weight, on average 3-5 pounds. • Developed a better understanding of what drives children to make certain health behavior choices.
Ø Champaign Urbana Public Health District June 2013- August 2013 Volunteer Champaign, IL • Created health education materials for faculty members of local elementary school students. • Gained experience with community outreach by contacting local realtors to promote going smoke-free. • Developed a strong understanding of the duties, tasks, and services that public health districts offer.
Ø Carle Hospital January 2012- December 2012 Leisure and Rehabilitation Unit Volunteer Urbana, IL • Encouraged and assisted patients to be physically, cognitively, and active. • Developed programs that increased physical activity among patients through organized group walks, and other appropriate stationary group-exercises. • Designed various games and projects relevant to the age, literacy level, and health status of the patient. Ø University of Illinois Faculty Lead Course in New Zealand May 2013- June 2013 Student South Island, NZ • Learned about New Zealand’s health care system and how it relates to the high volume of tourists. • Oversaw the process of owning a concession in terms of safety regulations and financial responsibilities.
Ø Kefiada July 2012-August 2012 Camp Counselor Qirat Gat, Israel • Taught English to Israeli children through games, literature, and daily communication. • Lived with a host family in order to directly immerse myself in their culture.
