Gemma Frisius was born in Dokkum (December, the 8th 1508). He studied at Leuven University and received a medical degree. He was the personal physician of Charles V, writer of scientific essays, instrument maker, geographer and astronomer.Later on he became the leading theoretical mathematician in the Low Countries and was appointed professor of medicine and mathematics at Leuven University. He helped laying the foundations of modern science, and tutored many famous scientists. Gemma Frisius died in Leuven, 25th of May 1555).
