Tips for Getting Ready for FS1

Choose your child bag with him / her, big enough to suit an A4 folder, a lunch box and water bottle. It must NOT have wheels and it should be suitable for your child to carry.

Please bring as well: spare uniform, socks and underwear to change for any reason during the day. Make sure that all these items are labelled clearly.

School shoes / trainers should be black with Velcro and NOT with laces. Kids need to bring daily to school lunch bag, water bottle, Character Building

booklet “My First Steps” and pack of tissue / wipes. Choose your child’s lunch bag and school bag without war drawings. All kids’ items need to be labelled clearly with permanent ink. School supplies don’t need to be labelled. Please bring them on your kid’s second

day at school. All books and plastic folders need to be labelled as well and they will be left at

school except if there is any required task. Parents may be asked to replenish these items during the year as they became

depleted.

Don’t worry

Your child doesn’t need to be able to read, write or do sums before they start school. Children start school with a wide range of abilities and their teacher will be skilled at helping children progress at their own level.

Things that you can do to get your child ready for school

Chat with your child about starting school. What do they think it will be like? What are they most looking forward to? Is there anything they’re unsure or worried about?

Look at the school’s website and follow our Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/saharainternationalschool/ and talk about the pictures.

Find photos of you and other family members at school, and chat about happy memories from your own school days.

Try to get into the school routine, so your child gets used to getting up, going to bed by 7 pm, and having meals and snacks upon their school day schedule.

Bath time and stories instead of TV and tablet games all help children to wind down before bedtime.

Making time in the evening to chat about your day for 10 minutes can be a lovely routine for sharing fun times and any worries.

Chat about the importance of good hand washing with soap and water, especially after going to the toilet or playing.

Help your child to start doing things independently like using toilet and eating alone.

Things you need to avoid It’s natural to feel nervous about your child starting school, but remember that your

child can easily pick up on your emotions. Try to be relaxed and positive, rather than showing your own nerves.

Leaving child suddenly on his first day will not help him in the other days. Tell him that you will be leaving in 10 minutes and say goodbye before leaving even if he cried. Make sure he knows exactly how he will go home to feel safe and OK.

Saying things that are not at school will lead your child to be disappointed. So please tell him the real things that exist and happen at school.

Encourage your child to eat his breakfast before coming to school.

Foods to limit

Chips, sweet biscuits and chocolate Any fizzy or canned drinks or juices.

Other treats might include popcorn & fruit salad

Vegetables Cucumber sticks, Carrot sticks, Peppers sliced, Cherry Tomatoes, Lettuce

Carton of milk, less sugar juice, yogurt, Water

Any easily handled fruits as strawberries, sliced apples, seedless grapes, orange slices.

Cheese, cold cuts, tuna You can use alternatives as tuna salad, chicken salad or pasta salad.

To avoid kids get bored, try to include as much variety as possible in their lunch boxes.

Involving kids while preparing their food, is a good idea to try.

Back to school Precautions

Our Valuable Parents,

We would like to express our great happiness seeing our students again back to school.

Meanwhile, we understand that you might have some worries due to the latest circumstances

we have passed through with COVID-19.

We would like to ensure you that the school will be taking all the necessary precautions on daily

basis.

Listed here all the precautions we will be doing inside the school premises to ensure our students

and staff safety:

o Cleaning procedures will take place in all school facilities (classrooms, toilets,

playgrounds and activity rooms) according to the WHO recommendations.

o Sanitizers will be available for students’ usage in school corridors and playgrounds.

o Alcohol sprays will be used after each break to sterilize students’ desks and all the shared

surfaces inside the classrooms.

o Shared computers will have signs posted instructing proper hand hygiene before and

after using them to minimize disease transmission.

o Awareness charts for hand washing / coughing and sneezing will be hanged all over the

school to act as reminders for our students.

o For younger stages, homeroom teachers / Co-teachers will always remind our little

students to follow all the hygienic rules.

Page 8: FS1 Orientation Letter...FS1 Orientation Letter 2020 2021 Address: 5 Seif El Deen El Mahrany St., Ramses Sq., Cairo, Egypt. Tel: (+202) 25903850 / (+202) 25905178 / (+202) 25887976

o School canteen will be sterilized daily and food served will be packed to limit any direct

contact. As well, gloves and face masks will be used from our school canteen staff.

o Student who will be noticed to have any symptoms during school day, will be isolated in

a separate isolation room till he / she is picked up or until he / she is able to leave the

school (high school only) on their own. Hygiene supplies are available in that room,

including a mask / face shield, facial tissues, and alcohol-based hand rub.

We need your cooperation as well in the following:

o Watch this tutorial video with our students to help them understand some of the

precautions that we need to follow being at school.

Click here to view the video

o Speak with our students about the coming period and we highly recommend to

communicate with us any fears / thoughts or questions our students might have.

o Update all your contacts at school students’ affairs and make sure the emergency

number is with someone who is always available so that we can contact in case of any

emergency.

o As per our school policy, student with any symptom will not be allowed to be at school

premises under any condition. You will be requested to stay at home for 14 days during

which we will be fully supporting our students medically, academically and

psychologically as some of you have already experienced this before.

o Students are required to have in their bags on daily basis their personal flask of water,

tissues, wipes and hand sanitizers.

Coming back after a long quarantine

For the first two weeks, we will expect many changes in our students’ moods, psychological

states, behaviours and personalities and will be in direct contact with you when needed as usual.

In addition to our ultimate care with our students’ health, we really do care about their

psychological well-being. Lessons about dealing with stress and other feelings they might be

experiencing have been prepared to help students cope with stressing situations and give them

a space to express their inner feelings about the current situation.

We do understand that being back to our normal life might take some time and we do

understand your worries. However, we ensure you that our cooperation together will make us

pass this time smoothly.

We are excited to welcome our students back to their second home: Sahara.

Thanks & Kind Regards,

School Administration
