1. Infrastructure Trial Overview The January 7, 2016 Infrastructure Trial is an opportunity for charter schools to prepare for the administration of the Broward Standards Assessment which will be administered via the Item Bank and Test Platform (IBTP). IBTP utilizes the FLDOE Single Sign-On system, where student accounts are linked to test information via an established username and password. The Infrastructure trial will simulate test-day network utilization, determine any school or district issues, and confirm that all workstations that will be used for testing are setup and can run the appropriate software.

Please note the following important information about the Infrastructure Trial:

• CBT Infrastructure Trial: Schools will run a computer-based test trial which simulates the appropriate number of student logins based on the total number of computers that they intend to use concurrently for testing. The CBT Infrastructure Trial will take place for charter schools on January 7, 2016 from 9:00AM to 11:30AM. Schools are asked to administer the CBT Infrastructure Trial/Training Test sometime during the 9:00am-11:30am time frame. However, if you prefer to administer the Infrastructure Trial/Training Test all day during each of your ELA and/or Math class periods, that would be fine as well.

• Schools will prepare by reading the preparation materials.

• Schools should create the same testing environment (e.g., testing rooms, number of computers/devices, appropriate switches and hubs, power supplies) that will be used for FSA testing.

• The CBT Infrastructure Trial/Training Test will be used to test the functionality of the video and audio on each computer and to test network infrastructure under conditions similar to those that will be present on test day.

• The CBT Infrastructure Trial/Training Test serves a dual purpose. It will serve both as the infrastructure test to test the network as well as a training test to familiarize students with the online platform. If students are participating in your school’s infrastructure trial, they will not need to complete another Infrastructure Trial/Training Test.

• The CBT Infrastructure Trial should take approximately thirty minutes. During this time students will log in, check the audio and video, follow the instructions to familiarize themselves with the platform, supply random answers, and submit the test.

• It is essential that schools run the Trial in their testing rooms on their testing workstations/devices and troubleshoot any local issues prior to participation in the Broward Standards Assessment (BSA).

• The Infrastructure Trial/Training Test form is assigned to every ELA teacher (grades 4-10) and every Math teacher (grades 5-8) in the district. If the Test Administrator for the Infrastructure Trial will be the ELA or Math teacher, the Infrastructure Trial Online Passcode will be provided to that Test Administrator within IBTP. The Online Passcode will then be provided to students to access test content.

• If the Test Administrator for the Infrastructure Trial will not be the classroom teacher (ELA/Math), the Testing Coordinator will provide the Infrastructure Trial/Training Test Online Passcode for participants to use to access test content.

• The Infrastructure Trial/Training Test form was not designed to be used as an academic assessment.

2. Setup Checklist - Completed Prior to Test Day The following section lists all of the setup activities required to administer tests via the FLDOE Item Bank and Test Platform (IBTP). The documentation referenced below is available on the IBTP Resources page of the Student Assessment & Research Department website at: http://www.broward.k12.fl.us/sar/ibtp.htm

The following must be completed prior to test day: • Have Teachers check their SSO Logins: Teachers must confirm that they can successfully

login with their Single Sign-on (SSO) login and have appropriate access to the IBTP. Reference the How Teachers and Administrators Login to IBTP documentation.

• Have Teachers check their students’ SSO Accounts: Teachers must confirm that they have access to the Student Access Report and verify that all of their students have an SSO account. Students enrolled after 8/28/2015 will most likely need to setup their SSO account. Teachers help students setup SSO accounts that don’t already have them. Reference the How Teachers Access Student SSO Account Creds and the How to Create Student SSO Account documentation. Please read this documentation carefully and only use the Student Access Report for student logins. Teachers print the Student Access Report and cut it to separate the individual student login information. These slips of paper will be passed out to each student during testing.

• Verify that Schoolnet Secure Tester is installed: Teachers/Techs must verify that Schoolnet Secure Tester is installed on all testing computers. Charter schools will need to download and install the Schoolnet Secure Tester. Please reference the FLDOE Downloading and Installing the Secure Tester for MacOSX or the FLDOE Downloading and Installing the Secure Tester for Windows documentation.

• Perform the Tech Check: Teachers/Techs must run Tech Check on testing computers to verify the computer meets the minimum specifications for IBTP testing. Reference the How to Run Tech Check documentation.

• Confirm Access to Test: Teachers must confirm that they have access to the test and that their roster is accurate. Reference the How to Confirm Access to IBTP Test documentation. Note: If you will have staff proctoring the test other than the ELA/Math teacher, they will need to be provided with the Students SSO login information, the test’s online passcode and the test script in this manual below. They can administer the test with only this information, however, they won’t have access to the Proctor Dashboard.

• Confirm Students have Headphones or Earbuds: Since the test will include audio content, verify that each student has headphones or earbuds ready for test day.

Preparing the Testing Room 1. Login to all of the testing computers;

2. Display the Infrastructure Trial Test’s Online Passcode where students can see it.

During the Test Session, Remember the Following: • If students have computer trouble during testing, contact your School Tech for assistance.

Certain circumstances, such as loss of an Internet connection, trigger a red warning indicator to appear on the top right of the test screen. The red broken paperclip icon indicates that the student has lost their internet connection.

If a student cannot complete the test on his or her computer, notify your School Assessment Coordinator.

• During testing, monitor student testing progress via the Proctor Dashboard.

An icon that looks like a monitor displays to the left of each student that is currently taking the test. The progress bar to the right of the student’s name displays their progress within the test. There is a bit of a delay, so give it a minute if it seems to be inaccurate. Once the student has submitted the test, a pencil icon will display to the left of their name and their score will display on the right side of the progress bar.

4. Infrastructure Trial Script

Script for the Infrastructure Trial Note: The CBT Infrastructure Trial/Training Test serves a dual purpose. It will serve both as the infrastructure test to test the network as well as a training test to familiarize students with the online platform. If students are participating in your school’s infrastructure trial, they will not need to complete another Infrastructure Trial/Training Test prior to BSA testing. The test form uses mock content to allow the district to simulate a computer-based administration for testing hardware and network connectivity prior to the operational administration and to familiarize students with the IBTP test platform.

Infrastructure Test Script

Complete all of the setup listed above before beginning the script.

Today, you are going to participate in the Infrastructure Trial of the IBTP test platform.

Please check to see that you have headphones and that they have been plugged in to your computer. If you do not have headphones please raise your hand now.

Please ensure headphones have been provided to all students and have been plugged in to their work stations. Please ensure that all testing computers have been logged into. Pass out the Student SSO Account Login information to each student.

Double-click on the Schoolnet Secure Tester icon on your desktop.

If you are prompted to select your organization, select the Students option. Do NOT select the Broward County School District option.

5. Follow-Up Once your Infrastructure Trial/Training Test has been completed, the testing team at your school should review all notes from the Infrastructure Trial. Follow up with the Broward County I and T department with any specific technology issues. The school should also email the following survey to [email protected] so that the Student Assessment and Research staff can evaluate the results of the trial.

• Were you able to complete the setup without difficulty? If not, please describe your issues.

• Did you have classroom teachers administer the test and their students take the test or did you have only staff simulate test taking on all of your testing computers?

• Were the students able to take the Infrastructure Test without difficulty? If not, please describe your issues.

• Were your classroom teachers able to monitor student progress via the Proctor Dashboard without difficulty? If not, please describe your issues.
