Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE, also known as SAE International). The competition was started back in 1978 and was originally called SAE Mini Indy . It was later renamed as Formula SAE in 1981. Formula SAE, aims at giving universities the opportunity to participate in a regulated event that is interesting and appealing to students. Formula SAE or FS as it is popularly known as, is an international design and manufacturing competition for engineering students.The event invites teams from engineering colleges across the country drawing on all their know-how to design, develop, build and then competitively test the open-wheel, open-cockpit, single-seat racers. This competition takes place in different parts of the world and teams from all over the world compete in these events. There's also a big focus on safety and on achieving an international standard of design and engineering. The race car that each team builds will first have to pass a TECHNICAL INSPECTION to make sure it meets the criteria set in the rule book. Thereafter, Teams are given a STATIC TEST, which evaluates the design and engineering of the vehicle, how effectively the (unrestricted) budget has been spent, and how solid the business proposition for the vehicle is for a prospective investor.Finally, there will be dynamic evaluations such as :
1. Acceleration test.2. Figure-of-eight handling test.3. Lap times in an autocross event.4. 22km endurance test .5. Fuel economy test.
THE COMPETITION
ABOUT VCET
Vidyavardhini's College of Engineering & Technology (VCET) is located in Vasai, a suburb of Mumbai, on a sprawling campus spread over an area of 12.27 acres. Vidyavardhini society received an approval from AICTE to start an engineering college with effect from July 1994.
The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai & offers a 4-year degree program. VCET has a total of 5 branches including Mechanical Engineering have been accredited with an 'A' grade by NBA, New Delhi.
VCET is considered to have the best faculty to guide and educate the students with their wide knowledge and experience acquired in their respective field. The college has a workshop space of 4140 sq. ft. and a very well-equipped Machine Shop.

WHO WE ARE-
Team Ethan comprises a team of talented and technically sound undergraduate students from the prestigious Vidyavardhini's College of Engineering and Technology (VCET) , Vasai.
' Ethan' is a Hebrew word, meaning strong, firm, steadfast and safe. True to the name, we will steadily make progress towards building better cars, and will steadily make progress in FORMULA STUDENT INDIA (FSI) for years to come.
Team Ethan Objectives:
Ÿ To design cost effective cars, year after year, that are high in endurance and simple in design, and to test them for racing conditions.
Ÿ To establish ourselves as a successful team in the annals of FSI India.Ÿ To use FSI India as a stepping stone towards Formula SAE and represent India at
an international level.
Driven by the zeal to succeed and the urge to create VCET's very own Formula-style race car, year after year, we at Team Ethan are resolved to give whatever it takes to create the best student-designed race car.
