PurposeThepurposeoftheOutstandingMemberandNewMemberoftheYearAwardsistorecognizeastudentwhoisamemberofaFraternityandSororityLifechapter,whohasmadeasignificantoverallcontributiontotheUniversityofCalifornia,MercedFraternityandSororityLifeCommunitythroughtheembodimentoftheFSLValuesofScholarship,Leadership,Service,andFriendship.

TimelineTimelinefor2016:

• ThisawardwillperformanceoverthecourseofanapplicantsentireinvolvementatUCMerced.

• Submissionformwillbemadeavailableby:February8th2016

• FinalSubmissionDUEby:March8th2016at11:59pm(nolatesubmissionswillbeaccepted)

• AwardInterviews:March31st–April6th2016

• 2016StudentLeadershipAwards:April28th2016

MethodofEvaluationOutstandingMemberandNewMemberoftheYearAwardsubmissionswillbereviewedinternallybytheFraternity&SororityLifestafftoensureallapplicationsarecomplete,andthenreviewedanddecidedonbyacommitteecomprisedofthefollowingindividuals:

• FSCChapterAdvisor• PFCChapterAdvisor• DivisionofStudentAffairsRepresentative• FSLIntern• CoordinatorforFSL

Applicantswillbeevaluatedbasedonmeetingtheawardeligibilityrequirements,theircontributionstothecampusandFSLcommunity,theirinvolvementinandoutsideofFSLorganizations,theiralignmentwiththeFSLcommunityvalues,andtheirinterviewwiththecommittee.

AwardEligibility1. Allanswersandsupplementalmaterialsubmittedmustbelegitimateandfactual.

2. ApplicantmustbeingoodacademicandconductstandingwiththeUniversity,theirchapter,andtheFraternityandSororityCouncil/ProfessionalFraternityCouncil.

3. BecurrentlyenrolledintheUniversity.

4. Havea2.5cumulativeGPAorhigherwithUCMerced.(Note:transfercreditsdonotcounttowardsthistotal)

5. BeamemberofarecognizedfraternityorsororityundertheumbrellaofFraternityandSororityLife.

6. BeeninitiatedintotheirrespectivechapterpriortoFall2015.

7. Anapplicantcannotwinthesameawardmorethanonceandmaynotapplyforbothawardsinthesameyear.

8. Eligibilityforthefollowingawardsspecifictoinitiationdateinclude:

o OutstandingMemberoftheYear:InitiatedpriortoSpring2015

o OutstandingNewMemberoftheYear:InitiatedduringSpring2015orFall2015

InterviewFollowingreviewoftheinitialapplication,selectedcandidateswillbeinterviewed.Thisinterviewwillbewiththemembersoftheawardcommittee.Interviewswillbenomorethan30minutesandwillbeusedtogettoknowthecandidatesbetter.Thosethatareofferedinterviewswillbecontacteddirectlytoscheduleatimefortheinterview.
