Is There An Honors College?

High School StudentsAdmission by InvitationHonors invitations will be sent in late December.  To be considered for an invitation, you must be admitted to the

University by mid-December. Please note: the Admissions deadline for mid-December decisions is mid-October. Invited students must respond to the Honors invitation by the stated deadline to finalize acceptance to the program. The average academic profile of students that were offered an invitation to the Honors Program in 2014 was as follows: 4.4 weighted GPA; 31 ACT composite, and 2070 SAT total.  Please note: Minimum test scores for an Honors invitation are an Act of 29 or SAT of 1900. For strongest consideration for admission to the Honors Program, students are encouraged to apply to FSU by the October deadline.

Admission by ApplicationHigh school students accepted into Florida State University as freshmen who do not receive a letter of invitation to the

University Honors Program may apply for acceptance by submitting an Honors application. Applicants will be notified by the end of the second week of April. Please Note:  students who are admitted to FSU after mid-December must submit an application to be considered for acceptance in the Honors Program. The average academic profile of the Honors Program applicants that were admitted in 2014 was: 4.2 weighted GPA; 30 ACT composite; 1970 SAT total.

Current Florida State University Students: Lateral AdmissionFreshmen at Florida State University may be eligible for admission to the University Honors Program via the

lateral admission process. Lateral admits join the University Honors Program the spring semester following their first fall semester. They are held to the same retention requirements as students admitted by standard admission. In order to be considered for lateral admission students must submit the required Lateral Admission Application. Students will be evaluated on the basis of their FSU cumulative and term GPAs, college coursework, and expressed interest in the Honors Program as reflected in the application. Typically, students offered lateral admission enroll in at least twelve (12) graded credit hours and earn at least a 3.800 FSU GPA during their first fall term. All applications are to be turned into the Honors Program Office by 5:00pm on Monday, December 1, 2014. Once grades are posted in December, lateral applicants will be notified by the Honors Office via email. Laterally admitted honors students must register for HUM 2944, Honors Colloquium, in the spring semester. This course is a one-credit weekly forum required of all first-year honors students. It features lectures by distinguished University faculty from across the scholarly and creative arts spectrum, as well as informative presentations from directors of academic programs that will be of interest to honors students. The Colloquium provides a common intellectual experience for new honors students and introduces them to the culture and opportunities of a modern research university.
