Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICECare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained duringperformance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repairof the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containersbefore opening any compartment or disassembling any componentcontaining fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer ServiceTool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and containfluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) and (2) .

2. Remove bolts (6) and disconnect hose assemblies (7) .

3. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove fuel filter (5). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual,"Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".

4. Remove bolts (4) and remove fuel filter base (3) .

Installation ProcedureNote: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning fluid.Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on theparts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts forreplacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision component. Perform assemblyprocedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.

1. Position fuel filter base (3) and install bolts (4) .

2. Install fuel filter (5). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter- Replace".

3. Connect hose assemblies (7) and install bolts (6). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 30 4 Nm (22 3 lb ft).

4. Connect harness assemblies (2) and (1) .
