“ A wonderful piece of theatre” HHHHH Independent

The critically acclaimed Going Dark tours the UK again this spring, including performances at London’s Science Museum.

How far can you see? A mile? A hundred miles? Or perhaps to the edge of our galaxy and beyond? It’s Max’s job to ask the cosmic questions. Passionate about astronomy, he works as the narrator at the city’s planetarium where he challenges his audiences with the mysteries of stars and science.

When his own life takes an unexpected turn, Max discovers that understanding theuniverserequiresadifferentkindof vision...

Sound&Fury use their innovative theatre vocabulary of immersive surround sound design, total blackout and imaginative lighting to reawaken our wonder at the cosmos and reveal how one man’s vision becomes illuminated by darkness.

Performed by seven female performers, from a seven-year-old girl to a woman over 80, it takes the idea of the “seven ages of man” and through a series of repeated images, hints at the accumulation of objects and memories over a lifetime, the transience of life itself, and the profound physical changes that take place as we age.

“The future of British theatre” The Times on Daniel Bye

History wasn’t made here. Not in Margate. This is somewhere history happened to. Or is it?

Story Hunt is a treasure hunt-meets-walking-tour of Margate’s many presents: those that have been and those that are yet to come.

Stroll by sights no longer to be seen. Marvel at monuments yet to be raised. Look! That man diving in the river in 1786 is changing the world, now!

History was made here, and it will be made again. You are, we are, all part of that history. And this means that we all, every one of us, can change it.

From the award-winning maker of The Price of Everything and How To Occupy An Oil Rig.

Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Arts Council England, through New Theatre in Your Neighbourhood. Developed through Fuel’s Jerwood Residencies at Cove Park which are supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.

Late night, with headphones, in a completely utterly dark room, with some space to move by Hofesh Shechter

A sound installation for one audience member in a completely dark room.

Hofesh Shechter’s podcast, designed to be listened to alone, in a dark space, is an invitation to move without inhibition – the way you always wished you could when no one is watching.

Originally produced as part of the Everyday Moments podcasts, produced in collaboration with Roundhouse Radio. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Arts Council England.

Following sell out runs in London and Edinburgh in 2013, Ring returns for more performances this spring.

Ring is a sound journey in complete darkness and an antidote to choice. Wearing headphones that amplify every intimate detail, you are transported to another room very similar to the one you entered… But in this room you have been recognised.

At times seductive, at times unnerving, Ring places the audience at the heart of a thrilling attack on their own identity.

Triggered @ Warwick Arts Centre. Originally funded by Arts Council England.

Sevenyearsafteritsfirstperformance,Love Letters Straight From Your Heart feels as fresh as it did in 2006, and continues to move audiences on tour.

Let’s raise our glasses to long lost loves and current lovers, to mums, to dads and to absent friends.

Uninvited Guests stage an event that is somewhere between a wedding reception, a wake and a radio dedication show. We speak of our own and other’s loves – deep, passionate, ambivalent and unrequited – and dedicate songs to them.

If you want to join us on this happy occasion, send a dedication to someone you love to [email protected].

Your letters of love may become part of the show, romantic gestures or signs of friendship, shared publicly between us. Be our witnesses and we’ll be yours.

For some members of the African diaspora, barber shops are the cultural equivalents to pubs. Everything is discussed in heated detail, frommasculinitytoblossomingfilmindustries, fromgovernmentpolicy to autism, from racism to football, the political to the intimate, to the intensely personal. As part of the Transform Festival, Inua will be sharing stories from his research in England, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria.

Fuel produces fresh work for adventurous people by inspiring artists.

We work in partnership with some of the UK’s most exciting contemporary theatre artists to develop, create and present new work for all. All the artists we work with create shows, performances or experiences that have direct and playful relationships with their audiences. They appeal to the emotions and the intellect: can make you laugh or cry, and take place in theatres, on the streets, online, or in unique, surprising places.

Research and development

In addition to the productions you can read about in this brochure, we run an active and in-depth development programme for artists and new work. With the help of Arts Council England and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation, we’re able to invite artists to take part in creative residencies at Cove Park, where they can dream up new ideas. This is our lab, where much of the work we produce begins its life.
