FUENGIROLA Council announces the

third edition of the Summer Movie

Festival.

Beach Councillor Ana Mula and

Miramar Centre Director Juan Carlos

Gomez presented the movies that will be

screened at the third Summer Movie

Festival on Los Boliches beach every

Tuesday between July 22 and August 12.

“Our objective is to attract more people

than in previous editions, if that were at all

possible,” said Mula. She thanked

Miramar Centre for their cooperation in

the project.

Between 11,000 and 14,000 enjoyed the

Beach Movie Festival in its first two

editions, remarked Mula. The Council

launched the initiative to increase the

cultural and leisure activities offered in

Fuengirola.

Gomez publicly thanked Fuengirola

Council “for their unconditional support to

this initiative.”

Fuengirola’s Summer Movie Festival

FUENGIROLA Mayor Esperanza Oña

announced the launch of the Special Summer

Plan of the Local Police.

The initiative aims at increasing safety in

Fuengirola and is possible thanks to the

cooperation of 11 volunteers of the police who

will be patrolling the streets between 8pm and

5am, though their main focus will be the

promenade, Las Palmeras, Moncayo Street and

surrounding areas and the PYR hotel, due to

the large number of businesses, tourists and

local residents in the area.

The plan also seeks to crack down on illegal

drugs, alcohol sales to minors and in

unauthorised areas and to enforce traffic laws.

However, one of its main objectives is to keep

peddlers from selling counterfeit goods.

Mayor Oña said peddlers represent a disloyal

form of competition with regards to licences,

businesses that pay their taxes and added that

buying counterfeit goods is extremely

detrimental to business owners.

MAYOR ESPERANZA OÑA: Launched the special summer plan.

Secondconstructionphase of FuengirolaRiver Park FUENGIROLA River

will soon turn into an

unparalleled park in the

province. The second

construction phase of the

River Park has started and

before the autumn rains

arrive, local residents and

tourists will enjoy the new

leisure infrastructure

aimed at giving the

Fuengirola River a new

image. The first phase of

the project was inaugu-

rated three years ago.

With an investment of

€1.18 million, the second

phase will be full of areas

for relaxation and

recreation and aims for a

“more natural” image.

It is 350 metres long and

has a total area of 74,500

square metres. The

infrastructure will have a

bicycle lane, an area for

pedestrians and a 30 or 40-

metre footbridge.

Given the number of

bids presented, Fuengirola

Council took its time

before awarding the final

contract to Hormigones

Asfalticos Andaluces S.A.

BEACHGOERS visiting

Fuengirola beaches are now

able to enjoy three recently

created inflatable parks.

Located on Fuengirola,

Carvajal and Los Boliches

beaches, the three new

inflatable parks were put out

to public tender at the

beginning of the year so that

they would be ready to

welcome tourists in the

summer.

“We came up with the idea

because we wanted our

beaches to be even more

beautiful,” said the Mayor.

“We demanded very

specific safety conditions:

every park has lifeguards,

night guards and every visitor

must wear a life jacket,” she

added.

In addition, the project has

helped 20 local residents find

a job, including 13 lifeguards

and seven night guards.

creation of a new roundabout on

Carvajal Avenue.

The project aims at considerably

increasing road safety in the area

accessing and leaving Fuengirola on

advantage is that it will allow drivers

to change direction at Carvajal

Avenue without having to go all the

way to Benalmadena.

Construction started on July 14

and is scheduled to be ready in 21

days. However, the roundabout could

be finished before that if everything

than initially expected.
