    1. Definitions.(a) Media means the CD-ROM titled Software for FinePix AX which is

    provided to you together with this Agreement.(b) Software means the software which is recorded on Media.(c) Documentation means the operation manuals of Software and other

    related written materials which are provided to you together withMedia.

    (d) Product means Media (including Software) and Documentationcollectively.

    2. Use of Software.FUJIFILM grants to you a nontransferable, nonexclusive license:(a) to install one copy of Software onto one computer in binary machine

    executable form;(b) to use Software on the computer onto which Software is installed;

    and(c) to make one backup copy of Software.

    3. Restrictions.3.1 You shall not distribute, rent, lease or otherwise transfer all or any

    part of Software, Media or Documentation to any third party withoutFUJIFILMs prior written consent. You also shall not sublicense,assign or otherwise transfer all or any part of the rights granted toyou by FUJIFILM under this Agreement without FUJIFILMs priorwritten consent.

    3.2 Except as expressly granted by FUJIFILM hereunder, you shall notcopy or reproduce all or any part of Software or Documentation.

    3.3 You shall not modify, adapt or translate Software or Documentation.You also shall not alter or remove copyright and other proprietarynotices that appear on or in Software or Documentation.

    4. Ownership.All copyrights and other proprietary r ights to Software andDocumentation are owned and retained by FUJIFILM or the third partysuppliers as indicated on or in Software or Documentation.     5. Limited Warranty.FUJIFILM warrants to you that Media is free from any defect in materialand workmanship under normal use for ninety (90) days from the date ofyour receipt of Media. Should Media not meet the foregoing warranty,FUJIFILM shall replace such defective Media with other Media bearingno defect. FUJIFILMs entire liability and your sole and exclusive remedywith regard to any defect in Media shall be expressly limited to suchFUJIFILMs replacement of Media as provided herein

    6. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY.EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 5 HEREIN, FUJIFILMPROVIDES PRODUCT AS IS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OFANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.     11. Obligation upon termination.Upon termination or expiration of this Agreement, you shall, atyour own responsibility and expense, delete or destroyimmediately all Software (including its copies), Media andDocumentation.

    12. Governing Law.This Agreement shall be governed by and construed inaccordance with laws of Japan.

    TAKING PICTURES SELECTING THE CAMERA SETTINGS

    PHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS

    Consider the scene you are photographing and the sort of image you want toachieve when you specify the camera settings. A general guide is given below.

    1 Select the Photography mode (P.34-38, 74-75).B Specifies all settings other than Quality, Sensitivity and FinePix COLOR

    on the camera.m/,/.// Selects the best Scene position setting for the scene being shot.N/M/< Changes the aperture or shutter speed setting so that the action is

    frozen, the flow of the motion is conveyed, or the background is out offocus.

    > Adjust all the camera settings yourself.r Record a movie.

    2 Specify the photography settings (P.39-43).e Macro Uses for close-up shots.d Flash Uses for shots in dark locations or for backlit subjects,

    etc.D Exposure compensation Uses the AE exposure as a reference value of 0. This

    N PROGRAMMED AUTOPHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS

    Set the Mode dial to N.This is an automatic mode to specify the settingsexcept for the shutter speed and aperture setting.This is a simple way to take pictures the same asthe Shutter-priority Auto and Aperture-priority Automodes (Program shift).

    Program shift

    Press a or b to select different shutter speedand aperture setting combinations without changingthe exposure setting. The shutter speed andaperture setting appear in yellow when the camerais in Program shift mode.

    ! Any of the following cancels Program shift:i Changing the Mode dial settingi Popping the flash upi Setting the camera to Playback modei Turning the camera off

    The shutter speed and aperture setting displayWhen the brightness of the subject is outside thecameras brightness metering range, --- appears asthe shutter speed and aperture setting on the LCDmonitor.

    Set the Mode dial to B.This is the easiest mode to use and can be usedfor most types of shots.

    Set the Mode dial to m.This is the most suitable for shooting portraits. Skintones are shown beautifully and the overall tone is

    Set the Mode dial to ..This is the most suitable for shooting sportingevents. The priority to faster shutter speeds isgiven.

    Set the Mode dial to /.This mode is the best for shooting evening andnight scene. The priority to slow shutter speeds (upto 3 seconds) is given. To avoid camera shake,always use a tripod.

    Use the exposure indicator on the LCD monitor as aguide when setting the exposure.When the brightness of the subject is outside thecameras brightness metering range, the indicatormoves to the (+) end to show that the image will beoverexposed (the (+) turns yellow) or to the () end toshow that the image will be underexposed (the ()turns yellow).

    When using the viewfinder to take apicture in Macro mode, the field visiblethrough the viewfinder does not matchthe field actually photographed becausethe viewfinder and lens are in differentpositions. Use the LCD monitor to takepictures in Macro mode.

    x Auto flash modeUse this mode for ordinary photography. The flash fires asrequired by the shooting conditions.

    ! If pressing the shutter button while the f lash is charging, the picture willbe taken without the flash.

    b Red-eye reduction

    Use this mode to make sure that the subjects eyes appearnormal when taking pictures of people in low-l ightconditions. The flash fires a pre-flash just before the pictureis taken and then fires again to take the actual picture. Theflash fires as required by the shooting conditions.

    ! If pressing the shutter button while the f lash is charging, the picture willbe taken without the flash.

    d Forced flashUse this mode in backlit scenes, such as a subject againsta window or in the shade of a tree, or to get the correctcolors when taking a picture under bright lighting. In thismode, the flash fires in bright as well as dark conditions.

    c Slow synchroThis is a flash mode that uses a slow shutter speed. Thisallows you to take pictures of people at night that clearly

    show both your subjects and the night time backdrop. Toavoid camera shake, always use a tripod.

    h Slowest shutter speed/ Night scene: up to 3 sec.

    n Red-eye reduction + Slow synchroUse this mode for Slow synchro shots with Red-eye reduction.

    ! The image may be overexposed when shooting bright scenes.

    To take a picture of a main subject at night with thebackground brightly lit, use the / (Night scene) setting inPhotography mode (P.34).

    Red-eye effectWhen using the flash to take a picture of people in low-light conditions, their eyes sometimesappear red in the picture. This is caused by the light of the flash reflecting off the inside of the eye.Use Red-eye reduction flash to minimize the likelihood of this effect.Take the following measures to make Red-eye reduction more effective:

    h Get the subjects to look at the camera. h Get as close as possible to the subjects.

    ! If the flash is used in dusty conditions or when it is snowing,

    white dots may appear in the image. This is due to flashreflecting off the dust particles or snowflakes. UseSuppressed flash mode to fix the problem.

    ! The flash charging time may increase when the battery is lowon charge.

    ! When taking a picture using the flash, the image maydisappear and go dark as the flash charges. The viewfinderlamp then blinks orange.

    ! The available Flash modes are limited depending on thePhotography menu selected (P.33).

    CCD-RAW

    Setting CCD-RAW to ON disables the signal processing functions (reconstituting the data receivedfrom the CCD as an image) performed on the camera. Consequently, this task must be performedon the PC.Use the bundled RAW FILE CONVERTER LE software to perform the processing on a PC.Conversion using RAW FILE CONVERTER LE also provides a simple way to create TIFF-formatimages.

    To rebuild images, FinePixViewer (on the bundled CD-ROM) must be installed on your PC.
