} R32 has been used in Japan, Indonesia and India for the last 12 months without incident.
} In Australia, Gree and Kelvinator currently have 38 R32 models registered.
} All other brands are currently investigating the release of these products in Oceania, this includes Daikin, Mitsubishi, Panasonic and LG.
} Fujitsu will be one of the first companies to sell these products.

} Combustion will not occur unless three conditions are met, Refrigerant concentration, constant oxygen, and an ignition source.
Refrigerant concentration
Area 14 to 30 vol.%
Minimum Ignition energy 30 to 100 mJ
Constant oxygen
R32 Ignition source
(Static electricity : 1.25mJ)
(0.3 to 0.6 kg/m3)

There is not enough concentration to ignite even if all the refrigerant should leak from 7.1kW class model in an approximately 7m2 room.
Refrigerant concentration area

How Flammable can R32 be?
![Page 9: Fujitsu General New Zealand Ltd - Get Skilled Training](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022012507/6182b8a0d3923e1b7379a35f/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
4 km/h
R32
Even if ignited, the flame propagation speed is slower than the speed of a person walking.
Approx 1.9 km/h R32 combustion speed
The risk of fire spreading is quite low.
![Page 10: Fujitsu General New Zealand Ltd - Get Skilled Training](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022012507/6182b8a0d3923e1b7379a35f/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
} Three items engineers considered for fire prevention
Construction that makes refrigerant stagnation minimised
Electrical parts have been designed to make ignition difficult – non spark components
Chassis design makes fire propagation difficult
The risk of fire has been reduced.

Releasing refrigerants into the atmosphere is illegal • Refrigerators, freezers and air-conditioning units contain refrigerants that
damage the environment. • Synthetic greenhouse gases (SGGs) are now widely used as refrigerants in fridges
and air-conditioning units. Under the Climate Change Response Act (CCRA) 2002 it is illegal to release SGGs into the atmosphere. (This came into effect on 1 January 2013.)
• Refrigerants that are ozone-depleting substances are being phased out under
the Ozone Layer Protection Act (OLPA) 1996. It is illegal to release these refrigerants into the atmosphere.
• The Environmental Protection Authority has enforcement powers under the CCRA and OLPA. If you release SGGs or ozone-depleting refrigerants into the atmosphere, there are serious penalties.
• It's important that you know what refrigerants the appliances you work with contain, and that you don't release these into the atmosphere.
![Page 13: Fujitsu General New Zealand Ltd - Get Skilled Training](https://reader031.vdocument.in/reader031/viewer/2022012507/6182b8a0d3923e1b7379a35f/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Approved fillers • Anyone filling compressed gas containers with gas must be an approved
filler. This requirement applies to all compressed gases, including air. What is an approved filler? • An approved filler is someone certified to fill compressed gas
containers, such as: 1. industrial gas cylinders 2. liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders 3. self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) 4. self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) 5. fire extinguishers 6. aerosol cylinders 7. paintball cylinders

} It is illegal to retrofit or convert a refrigeration or air conditioner appliance with a refrigerant it is not designed for.
} Electrical safety regulators advice on converting systems
} and equipment is: ◦ 1. If equipment has not been confirmed as being
designed, manufactured and tested to be compliant to relevant electrical safety standards for use with the proposed refrigerant then conversion of the equipment or use of the proposed refrigerant should not occur.
◦ 2. All domestic electrical appliances must be shown to comply with the relevant electrical safety product standard for use with the proposed refrigerant.

1. Product Special Measures The products use the R32 refrigerant with lower flammability characteristics, so special measures are required for the products.
A flare-less joint is used to prevent refrigerant leaks and comply with safety standards.
Electrical component cover design prevents fire from spreading.
Pipe cover design prevents fire from spreading.
