As you fl ip through this membership directory, you will fi nd many outstanding operations and cattle representing decades of breeding. Be confi dent, the breeders listed in this directory have done their homework and the cattle they represent will be an asset in any cattle operation. Congratulations to the members of the Fullblood Simmental Fleckvieh Federation (FSFF)!

Every year is diff erent and each can be challenging in its own way. This past year was no exception. Many weather patterns across North America proved to be trying at times. The decline in market prices for grains and cattle will make the next several months challenging to say the least. Keep evaluating your own cattle. Keep focus on your own breeding program. Don’t be afraid to eliminate those marginal producing cows or bull calves from your operation. There is still great profi t po-tential in cattle. Removing the couple extra cows from the breeding herd in these economic conditions will pay dividends in the coming years as the margins tighten more in the beef industry.

As breeders of Fleckvieh Simmental cattle, we need to keep adding data to our respective registry Associations. I urge you to submit all the data you can gather on your herd! Continue to report performance information on all the cows and calves in your operation. I also would like to challenge the membership to put several of your steers and heifers in a feedlot to gather carcass data and to measure feed effi ciency and feedlot gain. You will gain valuable insight into what goes into producing high quality beef for consumers.

In closing, I want to encourage you to invite your customers to join the FSFF. This is your organization, and your involve-ment in it and communication with your Board members is vital to sustaining and improving the Federation. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful organization!

The NAILE venue off ers members the opportunity to showcase Fleckvieh genetics to the thousands of visitors who pass through the barns. The FSFF display booth is prominently displayed & stocked with copies of the membership directory & tri-fold brochures for passers-by to review and take with them. The North American Select Simmental/Fleckvieh sale is a prominent, well managed & strongly promoted sale held at the NAILE each year. Cattle, semen, embryos, and/or fl ushes are all welcomed consignments. While at the NAILE, the FSFF also hosts the President’s Reception and Annual Membership Meeting as well as a number of other events to allow members & friends the chance to come together and reminisce!
