    B I F U R C A T E D C A S E A X I A LF A N SThe Bifurcated Case Axial range hasbeen specifically developed to meet theneed for an axial fan which can handle atmospheres normallydetrimental to the life of the fan motor.

By isolating the motor from the systemairstream, the bifurcated fan can handle awide variety of saturated and dust-ladenatmospheres, heated air and hot gases.

The range has a split airway with adirect driven motor operating inambient air within the motorcompartment. They are suitable, asstandard, for handling air temperaturesup to +200˚C.

M O T O R SThe motors are specially selected tooperate within the motor compartmentwith the airstream in the duct system, atan elevated temperature.

Motors are of the B3 foot mountingtype, totally enclosed and fan cooled.

Being foot mounted the motors can, inthe event of a failure, be readilyinterchanged with a comparable framesize from a wide range of manufacturersto cover temperatures of up to 200˚C.

The motor is suitable for speed controlby either an inverter or a 5-step autotransformer speed controller when theambient air temperature is not higherthan 60˚C.

    E L E C T R I C A LSingle phase 220-240V/50 Hz supplyare available in two sizes 250 and 315dia. in either 2 or 4 pole versions.Three phase 380-440V/50Hz supply areavailable in six sizes 250, 315, 400,500, 630 and 800 dia. in either 2 or 4pole versions (630 and 800 dia areavailable as 4 pole).

I M P E L L E R S A N DC A S I N GThe aluminium alloy impellers are diecast and have an adjustable pitch whichallows a wide range of air outputs to be selected. All the casings aremanufactured in steel and hot dippedgalvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 afterfabrication. Motor mountings andfixings used in the assembly of the fanare zinc plated and passivated.

    P E R F O R M A N C E Tested to BS 848 Part 1 & 2. PublisheddB(A) figures are free field soundpressure levels at 3m with sphericalpropagation at a reference level of 2 x10–5Pa (20 micro-Pascal). The inlet andoutlet sound power level spectra figuresare dB with a reference of 10–12 Watts (1 pico-watt).

C O O L I N GExternal cooling is provided by a fanmounted at the non-drive end of themotor, protected by a cover with a gridair intake. The airflow, guided by thefan cover, is directed longitudinally onthe entire periphery of the motor in thechannels formed by the frame ribs.

Adequate space is provided within themotor compartment to ensure a plentifulsupply of cooling air. The air within themotor compartment must not exceed40˚C. For ambients in excess of this, please consult our Technical ServicesDepartment for further information.

The motor is suitable for speed control by either an inverteror a 5-step auto transformer speed controller when theambient air temperature is not higher than 60˚C.

    S P E E D C O N T R O L L E RUsed in conjunction with speed controllable fans Vent-Axiaoffers a choice of speed controllers, the traditional Five-StepAuto Transformer or the Inverter Speed Controller.

The Five-Step-Auto Transformer provides five stepped speedsettings without the electronic motor harmonic noiseassociated with all electronic or solid state type SpeedControllers. Must be interlaced with a D.O.L. Starter.

The Inverter Speed Controller offers a more flexible solutionto speed control and is infinitely variable. The invertercontroller package, comprises of the inverter controller, abuilt in or separate filter where applicable and separateInverter Low Voltage Controller. The Inverter Controller isinstalled adjacent to the fan. The Low Voltage Controller canthen be installed up to a distance of 50m away from theInverter Controller and is wired using 5 core low voltagewire. This controller has a rotary speed control and separateOn/Off switch. The Inverter Controller package is factorymatched to the individual fan for ease of installation.

    I N V E R T E R C O N T R O L L E R SInverter (Variable speed drives) are suitable for allmodels of inverter controllable three phase fans.Offering complete user adaptability Vent-Axia Invertersoffer the following benefits: -

Frequency control setting resolution from 0-100% in0.1 increments (not only providing total speed control, but also enabling energy savings to be made throughthe fine tuning/optimisation of the fan)

Pre-settable minimum/maximum speed. Overloadprotection – 150% for 1 minute, therefore protectingthe fan from drawing excessive current.

Stall prevention during acceleration, deceleration andconstant speed, preventing nuisance tripping andproblems.

The versatility of the Inverter means that a single driveunit can be used to control the speed of multiple fans, provided that their combined loads do not exceed thedrive capacity.

Using an Inverter is by far the most effective andefficient way of controlling and optimising your fan orfans.

The Inverter controller, will include either a built in orseparate EMC filter, a ferrite coil and a low voltagevariable speed controller. The controls set will bematched to each individual fan and factory set, this willeliminate the need for any programming of the invertercontroller on site.

Installation and Wiring Instructions for the Case Axial Fan.

IMPORTANT: READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMMENCING THE INSTALLATION

DO NOT install this product in areas where the following may be present or occur:• Excessive oil or a grease laden atmosphere.• Corrosive or flammable gases, liquids or vapors.• Ambient temperatures less than –5°C or higher than 54°C.• Relative humidity above 95%• Possible obstructions which would hinder the access or removal of the fan.• Sudden ductwork bends or transformations close to the fan.

    SAFETY AND GUIDANCE NOTES

Air moving equipment may present mechanical, electrical or noise hazards. To minimise the risks associated withthese potential hazards, it is essential that installation, operation and maintenance instructions are followed andcarried out by a suitably qualified person.

    A. All wiring to be in accordance with the current I.E.E. Regulations, or the appropriate standards of your country.B. The Fan should be provided with a local 2/3 pole isolator switch having a contact separation of at least 3mm.C. Ensure that the mains supply (Voltage, Frequency, and Phase) complies with the rating label.D. The Fan should only be used in conjunction with the appropriate Vent-Axia products.E. It is recommended that the connection to the terminal box is made with flexible cable/conduit.F. The fan should not be sited within 600mm horizontally of/or 2250mm vertically of a bath/shower tray, in

accordance with the I.E.E. Regulations for bathrooms.G. When the Fan is used to remove air from a room containing a fuel-burning appliance, ensure that the air

replacement is adequate for both the fan and the fuel-burning appliance.H. If the fan is used to supply air into a room, the installer must ensure that the fan intake is located a minimum of

600mm from any flue outlet.I. This fan is designed as an inline ducted fan to be positioned between lengths of ducting. Short duct runs

terminating within 1.5m must incorporate suitable guards.J. Certain applications may require the installation of sound attenuation material, together with either an Auto

Transformer or Inverter Speed Controller to achieve the sound levels required.

    DESCRIPTION.

The Long Case Axial range of fans incorporates factory adjustable pitch impellers, which provide a comprehensiverange of duties offering high performance and pressure characteristics. Available in twelve sizes ranging from315mm to 1250mm ø and performances from 0.24m3/s to 38m3/s with a pressure development up to 1250Pa. Thecasing is constructed from rolled steel plate and protected with a galvanised finish.

    A. INSTALLATION.

    1. Ensure the impeller rotates and is free from obstruction, prior to installation.

    2. The fan is suitable for mounting at any angle.

    3. Ensure that there is adequate clearance for accessing the fan.

    4. Securely mount the fan using the holes in the end flanges and use the appropriate drop rods, bolts, anti-vibration mountings etc.

    5. Ensure the Airflow Arrow is aligned with the direction of the airflow required.

    6. The use of flexible connections and anti-vibration mountings is recommended to minimise noise and vibration.

    7. Ensure that the flexible connections are taut and the fan and ductwork are aligned.

    8. Flexible connections MUST be used in conjunction with anti-vibration mountings.

    9. Anti-vibration mountings must be installed in compression.

    ROUTINE INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE

ISOLATE FROM THE POWER SUPPLY AND ENSURE THAT THE FAN CANNOT BE ACCIDENTALLY SWITCHED BACK ON.

    1. At intervals appropriate to the installation, the fan should be inspected and cleaned to ensure there is no buildup of dirt or other deposits on the impeller or motor. If the fan is handling dust laden air, it is recommend that afilter is installed.

    2. All Case Axial fans have sealed for life bearings and do not require lubrication.

    3. Check the condition and security of all fixing bolts, rods, anti-vibration mountings, and flexible connections.
