    10 Functional Test

The purpose of the functional test is to verify that the installation has beendone properly.

    10.1 Preparations

The AMMs and the radio units must be installed on both sides of the hop and theantennas must be aligned for maximum received level before making the tests.

    10.1.1 Test Equipment

    Table 11 Test equipment

    Equipment Comment

    LCT (Local Craft Terminal)

    STM-1 (opt. or el.)

    OC3 (opt.)

    10.2 General Tests

Perform the following tests on the near-end and far-end terminals and recordthe results in the MINI-LINK E Functional Test Record.

    Test 1 Setup Parameters

Purpose:To verify that the correct parameters are used.

Check, from the LCT, that all setup parametersare set according to the Site InstallationDocumentation form.

    Test 2 DC Supply

Purpose: To verify that the correct DC power is fed tothe MMU.

Measure the primary DC voltage in the DC cable, which connects to the MMU, using a digitalvoltmeter. Record the value in the Functional TestRecord.

    Test 3 Transmitter Output Power

Purpose: To verify that the output power corresponds

to the value provided from the design department.

If the output power has not been changed duringthe installation, record the value from the factorytest record. (No measurement is required).

If the output power has been changed by MSM,record that value. (No measurement is required.)

If the output power has been changed by insertionof a fixed attenuator, check that the output powerhas already been measured and entered in the

    Functional Test Record.

Otherwise, measure the output power with an RFpower meter and enter the value (optional).

Compare the value with the value provided by thedesign department. Contact the design departmentif they are not similar.

    Test 4 RF Input Level

Purpose: To verify that the input level corresponds tothe value provided from the design department.

Note: In a 1+1 system, the input level in each radioshould be measured twice. Once with inputsignal from far-end radio 1, and once with inputsignal from far-end radio 2.

Note: The ATPC should be switched off during thetest.

Switch off the ATPC from the LCT.

Read the received RF input level in the LCT. Enterthe level in the Functional Test Record. The designdepartment provides the levels for both radios ina 1+1 system. Compare the received results withthese values and enter them in the Functional TestRecord.

Compare the RF input level with the levelcalculated during path planning. Consult the designdepartment if the difference is more than 3 dBduring unfaded conditions.

Activate the ATPC from the LCT.

    Test 5 Interference Test

Purpose: To verify that there are no interfering signals, which can degrade the performance.

Note: In a 1+1 system both transmitters must beswitched off.

Access the far-end terminal from the LCT and

    switch the far-end transmitter off.

Read the received RF input level and record thevalue in the test record. If the level exceeds 80dBm, consult the design department. After the testhas been performed, activate the transmitters againand restore the communication over the hop.

    Test 6 Near Alarm Check

Purpose: To verify that the indoor and outdoor unitsare running properly.

Check from the LCT that no near-end alarms areactive.

Test 7 Traffic Cables and Connection Test

Purpose:To verify that the traffic cables andconnections are functioning and that the traffic isrunning properly without any bit error.

Connect the SDH/PDH Analyzer to the cableconnected to the main traffic interface and checkthat the Loss Of Signal (LOS) alarm disappears inthe LCT.

Set a far-end loop from the LCT and check thatthe main traffic signal can be looped back fromthe remote site.

Electrical interface only: Shake the main trafficcable gently to confirm proper connection and makesure there is no bit error.

    Remove the far-end loop.

Test 8 Switch Test 1+1 Configuration

Purpose: To verify the switching function and thefunctionality of the redundant MMU and RAU.

Set a far-end loop from the LCT.

To perform this test, make sure the radio 1transmitter and receiver (Ra1) are active and thatswitch mode is set to auto. Connect the SDH/PDH

Analyzer to the main traffic interface and run thetraffic.

Disconnect the power to MMU Ra1 and verify, from

the LCT, that the system switches to the radio2 transmitter and receiver (Ra2). Check on theSDH/PDH Analyzer that traffic is recovered afterswitching from Ra1 to Ra2.

Repeat the switch test for Ra2 and MMU Ra2.

    Remove the far-end loop.

    Test 9 Fan Alarm Test

Purpose: To verify the Fan Alarm connection.

Disconnect the DC cable for the fan unit. Use theLCT to check that the fan alarm goes active.

Reconnect the DC cable to the fan unit directlyafter the test is preformed to avoid damage due tooverheating on the indoor units.

    10.3 Hop Test

    Test 10 Performance Test

Purpose: To verify that the hop performance quality hasnot degraded after a period of time in normal operation.

Reset performance data for both sides of the hopfrom the LCT. Read the performance for bothterminals, for instance after 24 hours.

If there is no degradation of performance, the testis OK. Enter the test results in the Functional TestRecord after the test is completed.

If performance has been degraded, measure afteranother 24 hours. If the performance is further

degraded, check the path and the installation.
