• Good News:
Last Spring, the Legislature redefined Basic Education, eliminating district-to-district inequity (when fully funded).
1. “Prototype Schools” - Levels the Playing Field
2. Teacher Training, Collaboration, Mentoring
3. Voluntary ‘Pre-K’ - for at-risk kids 3 & 4 year olds.
• Good News: Last Spring, the Legislature redefined Basic Education,
eliminating district-to-district inequity (when fully funded).
• Bad News:
The State will have to come up with $8 Million, to bring Auburn up to State Average.
With the $2.6 Billion deficit next year, they won’t be able to do it until ~2011.
But they’ll never do it if we don’t ask!

Speaker Chopp,
I volunteer in three kindergartens serving 80 kids, with 70% Free & Reduced Lunch and 30% English Language learners. Half way through the year, several don't know the difference between 'three' and 'four'.
We fund Auburn classrooms $14,000 per year, less than State average. When new funds become available, please, Fund our Underfunded Classroom First !
Thank you,
