CONCLUSION

Page 11: Fundamentals Of Computer system

In this assignment I have gathered information from the internet. And I put my full effort to finish this assignment. Also i put all my experience to this. I mentioned all the needed requirements for this company and also the details about safety and healthy way to use them.By this report I believe this company can maintain a successful business .

Task 1

1.1 peripheral componentsWhat is peripheral components?

Page 12: Fundamentals Of Computer system

A peripheral device is an internal or external device that connects directly to a computer but does not contribute to the computer's primary function, such as computing. It helps end users access and use the functionalities of a computer.

Input Device In computing, an input device is a peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment) used to

provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or information appliance.

* Input devices include the following:

Mouse

Mouse is most popular pointing device. It is a very famous cursor-control device having a

small palm size box with a round ball at its base which senses the movement of mouse

and sends corresponding singnals to CPU when the mouse buttons are pressed.

Generally it has two buttons called left and right button and a wheel is present between

the buttons. Mouse can be used to control the position of cursor on screen, but it cannot

be used to enter into the computer.

Keyboard

A computer keyboard is one of the primary input devices used with a computer that looks similar to those found on electric typewriters, but with some additional keys.

Page 13: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Keyboards allow you to input letters, numbers, and other symbols into a computer that often function as command.

Keyboard interfaces-

Today, most desktop computer keyboards connect to the computer using either USB or Bluetooth for wireless communication. Before USB, a computer may have used PS/2 or AT

(Din5) as a keyboard interface.

Page 14: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Types of keyboards Today, most keyboards are similar to each other, but may be missing one or more of the

sections mentioned earlier (e.g. the keypad). Where keyboards begin to differ the most is with the keyboard layout. While most keyboards use the QWERTY layout, there are still people who use the DVORAK layout

. Laptop keyboards

A laptop keyboard is different from a desktop keyboard to help reduce the size and the overall weight of the laptop. Most laptop keyboards are made smaller by placing the keys closer to each other and not always including control keys or a keypad. For a laptop to have all the same functions of a desktop keyboard, laptop keyboards use a Fn key that is used in conjunction with other keys to perform special functions. For example, pressing the Fn key and the up or down arrow on the keyboard shown below, increases and decreases the brightness of the screen.

Page 15: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Smartphone and tablet keyboards

Today's smartphones and tablets do not come with a physical keyboard although it is an optional add-on. These devices utilize a thumb keyboard or on-screen keyboard to type messages and other text. In the picture to the right is an example of the Apple iPhone on-screen keyboard.

Joystick

joystick is also a pointing device

which is used to move cursor

position on a monitor screen. It

is a stick having a spherical ball at

its both lower and upper ends. The

lower spherical ball moves in a socket. The joystick can be moved in all four directions.

The function of joystick is similar to that of a mouse. It is mainly used in Computer

Aided Designing(CAD) and playing computer game.

Page 16: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Scanner

With hardware, a

scanner or optical

scanner is a

hardware input

device for a

computer. Scanners

allow a user to take

a printed picture,

drawing, or

document (hard copy) and convert it into a digital file (either an image or a text file) so

that it can stored, viewed, and edited on a computer

Light Pen

Light Pen is pointing device which is similar to a pen. It is used to select a displayed menu item or draw pictures on the monitor screen. It consists of a photocell and an optical system placed in a small tube. When the tip of

Page 17: Fundamentals Of Computer system

a light pen is moved over the monitor screen and pen button is pressed, its photocell sensing element detects the screen location and sends the corresponding signal to the CPU.

Output Device

An output device is any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user. Most computer data output that is meant for humans is in the form of audio or video. Thus, most output device used by humans are in these categories.

* Output Device include the following:

Monitor

Monitor are the most popular output device used today for producing soft copy output. Monitor

is perhaps the most important output device because people interact with this device most

intensively than other.

Page 18: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Printer

A printer is an output device that prints paper documents. This includes text documents, images, or a combination of both. The two most common types of printers are inkjet and laser printers. Inkjet printers are commonly used by consumers, while laser printers are a typical choice for businesses. Dot matrix printers, which have become increasingly rare, are still used for basic text printing.

Speaker

Page 19: Fundamentals Of Computer system

A speaker is a term used to describe the user who is giving vocal commands to a software program.

1.2 Computer Hardware

* Computer hardware is the collection of physical parts of a computer system. This includes the

computer case, monitor, keyboard and mouse. It also includes all the parts inside the computer

case such as the hard disk drive, motherboard, video card and many others. Computer hardware

is what you can physically touch.

Motherboard

Page 20: Fundamentals Of Computer system

A motherboard is one of the most essential parts of a computer system. It holds together

many of the crucial components of a computer, including the central processing unit

(CPU), memory and connectors for input and output devices.

VGA

A video card is an

expansion card which

generates a feed of

output images to a

display (such as a

computer monitor).

Processor

A processor is the logic circuitry that responds to and processes the basic instructions that

drive a computer. The term processor has generally

replaced the term central processing unit (CPU). The

processor in a personal computer or embedded in small

devices is often called a microprocessor.

1.3 Computer Software

Page 21: Fundamentals Of Computer system

* Computer Software, or simply software, is that part of a computer system that consists

of encoded information or computer instructions, in contrast to the physical hardware from

which the system is built.

system Software

Page 22: Fundamentals Of Computer system

System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer’s

hardware and application programs. If we think of the computer system as a layered

model, the system software is the interface between the hardware and user applications.

Applications software

Applications software (also called and-

user programs) include such things as

database programs, word processors, web

browsers and spreadsheets.

Task 2

2.1 System DesignAt Callink company there has lot of meeting rooms, if we take a room; there we have to make

design for more than 20 people.

What we need to make a system design

20 computers and one of special computer.

Network card

Hub or card

Page 23: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Speakers

And cables.

Router

* We are going to make a design for meeting room so we can use a hub. Because Hub is publish machine, at meeting room we have share our ideas, files, photos etc... But not going to share anything to one person so we can use hub.

* We should connect the network cards to all computers and each computer are connecting with hub also.

* We will need internet connection so we can use a router. In this case we cannot draw a design for 20 computers so we will take four computers instant of 20 computers.

2.2 Computer

Network Diagram

Page 24: Fundamentals Of Computer system

* A Computer network diagram is a schematic depicting the nodes and connections amongst

nodes in a computer network or, more generally, any telecommunications network.

Firewall

A firewall is a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. You can implement a firewall in either hardware or software from, or a combination of both. Firewalls prevent unauthorized internet users from accessing private networks connected to the internet, especially intranets.

Modem

A modem is a device or program that enables a computer to transmit data over, for example, telephone or cable line. Computer information is stored digitally, whereas information transmitted over telephone lines is transmitted in the from of analog waves.

Switch:

A network switch is a computer networking device that connects while the exact meaning of the term layer-4 switch is vender dependent, it almost always starts with…..

Server :

Page 25: Fundamentals Of Computer system

In computing, a server is a computer program or a device that provides functionality for other programs or devices, called “clients” this architecture is called the client-server model, and a single overall computation is distributed across multiple processes or device.

2.3 Types of computer systems

Supercomputer:

A large very fast computer used especially for scientific computations . A supercomputer

is a computer that performs at or near the currently highest operational rate for computers.

There are a few well-publicized supercomputers that operate at extremely high speeds relative

to all other computers. The largest, most powerful supercomputers are really multiple

computers that perform parallel processing.

Supercomputers are very expensive and are employed for specialized applications that require

immense amounts of mathematical calculations.

Mainframe Computer

Very large

and

expensive computer capable of supporting

hundreds, or even thousands,

of users simultaneously.

Page 26: Fundamentals Of Computer system

In some ways, mainframes are more powerful than supercomputers because they support more

simultaneous programs. But supercomputers can execute a single program faster than a

mainframe.

The distinction between small mainframes and minicomputers is vague, depending really on

how the manufacturer wants to market its machines.

Mini Computer

A small computer that is intermediate between a

microcomputer and a mainframe in size, speed, and

capacity, that can support time-sharing, and that is

often dedicated to a single application.

As computer processors became smaller and more

powerful, microcomputers began to rival minicomputers

in processing power.

Therefore, in the 1980s, minicomputers started becoming

less relevant and eventually became obsolete. Today, rack-based servers perform similar

functions to minicomputers.

Micro computer

Heterm microcomputer is generally synonymous

with personal computer (PC), or a computer that depends

on a microprocessor .A microcomputer is a computer

with a central processing unit (CPU) as a

microprocessor.

A microcomputer is a complete computer on a smaller

scale and is generally a synonym for the more common term, personal computer or PC , a

computer designed for an individual. A microcomputer contains a microprocessor (a

central processing unit on a microchip ), memory in the form of read-only

memory and random access memory , I/Oports and a bus or system of interconnecting

wires, housed in a unit that is usually called a motherboard.

Page 27: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Task 3

Develop a health and safety policy for the organization

3.1Health and Safety- Advice on using your computerAdvice on using your computer

Set up and connect your equipment in accordance with the instructions provided by the supplier

or manufacturer. Always be sure that the computer is switched off and disconnected from the

mains electrical supply when you connect or disconnect any of the electrical leads.

Working safely

The use of visual display units (VDU) and other display screen equipment (DSE) has been related

to various symptoms to do with sight and working posture. These symptoms are often perceived

as fatigue of some kind. Applying simple ergonomic principles to the layout of your work area

and how you study can readily prevent them. Try to position the monitor to minimize glare and

reflections on the screen. Suitable lighting is important: remember that glare can occur either

directly or by reflection from the screen.

Eyes and eyesight

There's no evidence that working with DSE is harmful to the eyes, nor that it makes visual

problems worse, although a few people who have difficulties with their sight may become more

aware of them. But working at a screen for a long time without a break can have effects similar

to reading or writing uninterruptedly, and may make your eyes feel 'tired' or sore. You might

find that it helps to look away from the screen from time to time and focus your eyes on a

distant object.

Page 28: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Page 29: Fundamentals Of Computer system

Making yourself comfortable

As for any task that means working in one position for some time, it's important to make

yourself as comfortable as possible when you use your computer. Place the monitor in front of

you and at a comfortable viewing distance. If you're working from a document you might find it

better to have that directly in front of you and the screen to one side. Try to position the top of

the monitor display slightly below eye level when you're sitting at the keyboard.
