Salary: circa 28,000 - 33,000 pro rata

Days: 2-3 days per week

Employment term: Initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension

About Room to Heal

Room to Heal is a human rights charity and healing community based in London. Our mission is to support people who have survived torture and organised violence to rebuild their lives in exile, through an integrated programme of therapeutic and casework assistance. At the heart of our work lies the cultivation of community, through which our members can restore meaningful relationships with themselves and others, overcome the legacy of their traumatic experiences and integrate into the UK. Our community is currently made up of over 100 members from over 25 countries: including former political prisoners; people who have been persecuted on account of their sexuality or religious belief; and those who have escaped trafficking.

In 2017 Room to Heal will have been operating for 10 years. Over that time we have established a pioneering model of work that is well-respected in the field. We are supported by the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, as well as Comic Relief and a range of other foundations. Lloyds TSB Foundation recognised our outstanding impact in the refugee field in 2015.

Background to the Role

We have developed a number of relationships with a variety of organisations - including Comic Relief, Tudor Trust, City Bridge and the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture - who support our work and recognise the effectiveness of our approach.

As we enter our 10th anniversary year, Room to Heal has reached a new stage in its development, and we are working to make the organisation more sustainable for the future. We are looking to diversify our funding and identify and secure new funding streams, which will include securing new funding for when three of our large 3-year grants come to an end in 2017.

We now need a designated fundraiser who, in partnership with our Operations Director and wider team, will identify and secure new avenues of funding.

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a confident, experienced and motivated Fundraiser to join our small, friendly team and help Room to Heal to bring in the resources we need to sustain our organisation and ensure we deliver the best service that we can to vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees.

The main focus of this role will be to research and secure new funding opportunities through:

Identifying and developing relationships with potential new funders;

Preparing and submitting high quality funding proposals in accordance with timetables and application criteria;

Maintaining accurate records, analysis and reporting of new funding secured.

Person Specification

This role would suit a candidate with a good understanding of the charity sector and proven success of fundraising from a variety of sources, including trusts and foundations, along with an ability to write with flair and creativity.

Essential

A self-starter who can hit the ground running;

Voluntary sector experience with a proven track record of securing new funding;

Experience of writing creative and persuasive proposals, with the ability to demonstrate how to achieve clear outcomes and impact;

Good research skills with experience of identifying quality new fundraising leads;

Proven ability to form good working relationships, both internally and externally with people at all levels;

Ability to work on own initiative and to meet objectives and tight deadlines under pressure;

Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing

Good organisational skills with ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines

Computer literate word-processing and Excel essential.

Desirable

Demonstrable success of securing five and six figure grants;

Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation processes in the charity sector.
