Welcome!Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2015 Homeward Pet Adoption Center’s Fur Ball Auction & Dinner!

Thank you for joining us and celebrating our 25th Anniversary at our biggest fundraiser of the year! It is because of generous supporters like you that we are able to continue our mission of giving homeless animals a second chance through our rescue, shelter, and adoption programs.

Because of YOU, Homeward Pet continues to give over 1600 homeless dogs and cats the opportunity for a second chance at life and love. Last year 629 needed more than the typical medical exam, spay/neuter and vaccinations. Your support allowed us to give them the extra attention required to make them healthy and adoptable.

Our community outreach programs are expanding as we continue to do our part with the Homeward Pet public low-cost spay and neuter services, reducing the overpopulation of dogs and cats in the state. The Homeward Pet Food Bank is supporting 19 area food banks and outreach programs with pet food and supplies - recently partnering with Hopelink to extend this support even further – all focused on helping to keep pets in their homes.

This evening is not only a celebration of all you have helped us accomplish; but also a testament to all the work that still needs to be done. For every animal saved, there is another in desperate need of our help. For whatever reason and by whatever means an animal finds his way to us, it is our responsibility to ensure he receives the medical care, attention and love needed to prepare for a journey homeward!

We are delighted that you are with us tonight and hope you will have a very memorable evening. On behalf of the Homeward Pet Staff, Board of Directors , Volunteers and all for the animals you are helping, Thank You for your generosity and continued support!

About Our Auctioneer, Fred Northup, Jr.Fred Northup, Jr. is one of the Pacific Northwest’s busiest entertainers: as a charity auctioneer, emcee, comedy improviser, and musician. For 10 years, Fred appeared on stage as a company member of Seattle’s famed TheatreSports comedy improv group. When not entertaining the masses, Fred can be found in Seattle entertaining his wife, Ashley, and their two young children. Visit him online at FredNorthup.com.

About Our Reader, Jim KellerHomeward Pet Adoption Center’s Operations Director, Jim Keller, wears many hats. Not only does he keep the day-to-day operations of the shelter running, but with the help of his staff, he has done so with record breaking adoption numbers. Jim is also the “voice” of Homeward Pet in many ways – he is able to communicate some of the cats’ and dogs’ stories to our supporters through his writing and tonight, through his voice. Through Jim, we hope you’ll realize the fun, passion and dedication of Homeward Pet staff, volunteers and supporters.

12. Paws-for-a-Cause: Lives Changed and Lives SavedFor 25 years, Homeward Pet Adoption Center has remained true to our mission “to give homeless animals a second chance through rescue, shelter and adoption”. While we’ve been through a lot of changes - from the one-room shelter known as Hooterville Pet Safehaus to our new facility in downtown Woodinville - our commitment to helping each and every animal that we take in is still the driving force behind making our mission work.

Helping our adopters find the best cat or dog to join their family is a pleasure. Adopting an animal to their new forever home, where they’ll experience love, comfort, safety and joy – often for the first time in their life – is a feeling that the staff and volunteers at Homeward Pet treasure. Like you, we understand the special bond that happens between people and their pets, and we know that every adoption changes the lives of our adopters as well as our animals.

But behind every successful adoption is the hardship and struggle of a homeless animal: abandoned to wander the streets, surrendered by owners who could no longer care for them, sick, neglected or abused. Some require medical attention, some need training, and some just need time. Our mission is to do the best we can for them – to do everything we can for them – until we can find their loving family.

Every cat and dog arriving at Homeward Pet receives a thorough exam, microchip, vaccines , and treatments, and is spayed or neutered before meeting potential adopters. Some animals require more, and every day our staff veterinarians are helping Homeward Pet dogs and cats overcome medical issues from infections to broken bones, prescribing medications , administering tests and performing surgeries.

Programs like our Dog Behavior Team, Kennel Enrichment Program, and advance volunteer training for cat and dog volunteers are not inexpensive to operate, but they are just as necessary to the well-being of our animals as their medical care, and essential to making our mission work.

Every week, over 350 big-hearted volunteers visit Homeward Pet to help our staff care for the animals: dogs are fed, walked, provided socialization, playtime and training; cats are fed, played with and pet. Kennels are cleaned and laundry goes ‘round-the-clock. Once an animal is available for adoption, it is the job of our staff Adoption Counselors to meet with every potential adopter, introduce them to our adoptable cats and dogs, and help them find the right animal to join their family.

From onsite veterinary care to behavior training to personalized adoptions, we spare no expense to give each animal the best care possible. It’s how this organization was founded, and it’s the credo we live by today. In tonight’s video you’ll see stories of happy endings made possible by this hard work, and hear about animals who may have hard days ahead of them as we work to help them heal, and find their forever homes. It’s been the Homeward Pet story for 25 years, and we hope to help more animals, in more ways, in the next 25 years.

Please open your heart, raise your bid card, and join in this life-saving effort. Your gener-ous donation will ensure that we can continue this journey, and provide every dog and cat in Homeward Pet’s care - from innocent kittens and playful puppies to sweet seniors and special needs animals - the best we can give.

The auctioneer will take bids at the following levels: $5000, $2500, $1000, $500, $250, $100. On behalf of Homeward Pet and all the animals your gift will help, thank you for your compassion and generosity.
