Future global sporting events

The success of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, from planning through to delivery, has given

UK businesses the opportunity to transfer the knowledge and expertise gained to help deliver future sporting

events.

Glasgow 2014

The next Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow during the sum mer of 2014. These Games will be

delivered by the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and the Organising Com mittee of the Glasgow

Commonwealth Games.

The Organising Comm ittee of the Glasgow Comm onwealth Games is respons ible for the procurement process of 

the Games which will in turn offer a boos t to the economy by creating a plethora of comm ercial opportunities.

Contract opportunities for the 2014 Comm onwealth Games continue to be posted on the Glasgow Business Portal.

 A Timeline of Activity has been created by the Organis ing Committee to provide ins ight in to the planning process for the Commonwealth Games.

Sochi 2014

The 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in the Russ ian City of Sochi. This is the first time the

Winter Games have taken place in Russia. More than 1 trillion roubles (USD 35 billion) will be spent on planning and

preparing for the Games. A plethora of busines s opportunities will be generated across a wide range of sectors from

architecture and construction to security, broadcasting, ticketing and hosp itality.

Rio 2016

With a budget over $14 billion, Rio 2016 will the first Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in South America.

The Games will be delivered by the Autoridade Publica Olimp ica (APO), a cross -government agency which will

oversee the delivery of facilities projects, and Rio 2016, the private organis ing com mittee which will p roduce the

actual event.
