The Future Leaders Program Unprecedented levels of investment are transforming the Australian and New Zealand Rail Industries. The next generation of leaders will be tasked with delivering the industry’s project pipeline. Investing in young leaders will ensure the best outcomes for our industry. The ARA Future Leaders Program brings together emerging leaders throughout the Australian and New Zealand rail industries to establish a network of young rail professionals and develop their leadership capabilities. The Program A good leader understands their own personal strengths and weaknesses and embraces the strengths and weaknesses of others. An effective leader must communicate with influence, be able to embrace and resolve conflict and have the skills to turn ideas into commercial reality. Leaders must establish and maintain a network that they can draw on for advice, support and input. The ARA Future Leaders Program is designed to achieve this and more for emerging young professionals within the Australian and New Zealand Rail Industries. Conducted over three face-to-face workshops totalling seven days, the program will: Establish a network of emerging leaders Engage emerging leaders with current leaders from rail and other industries Provide an overview of the Australasian Rail Industry and the challenges and opportunities faced in the freight, passenger, manufacturing, supplier, consulting and contracting sectors Conduct personality analysis of participants and provide an understanding of personality traits to ensure participants can engage others for optimal outcomes www.ara.net.au FUTURE LEADERS ARA Future Leaders Program 2019 OBJECTIVES Key objectives of the program are to: build a network of future leaders provide a two-way exchange between future and current leaders in the rail industry engage the next generation of leaders to retain talent within the rail industry provide a broader understanding of the rail industry and the challenges and opportunities facing the industry and its future leaders facilitate skills development in strategic thinking, scenario planning, negotiating, developing a value proposition and pitching a concept provide insights into each participant’s personality and how to engage different personality types complete group projects that address key rail industry challenges develop the participant’s ability to communicate with influence, recognise and embrace conflict and develop ideas into commercial reality provide a platform for industry to learn from young rail professionals Allocate participants into diverse groups according to personality traits to complete group projects with assistance from industry mentors Teach participants how to take a concept to market and communicate with influence, whether this is within a small team or to pitch a project concept Conclude with groups pitching their project to a panel of industry judges. The two winning groups will present their projects at AusRAIL PLUS 2019 in Sydney.

The ARA Future Leaders Program brings together emerging leaders throughout the Australian and New Zealand rail industries to establish a network of young rail professionals and develop their leadership capabilities.

CommitmentParticipants are required to attend the three workshops, four networking events, AusRAIL PLUS Conference and the AusRAIL PLUS Gala Dinner.

Organisations are asked to support their participant by ensuring they attend all elements of the program.

Alumni In 2018, the ARA launched its Future Leaders Alumni Program to nurture the network that this program creates. In 2019, participants of the 2017 and 2018 Programs will be invited to attend an Alumni and Current Participants Networking and Site Tour day on 17 September.

The Alumni Program aims to ensure the networks established through the Future Leaders Program are further developed and built upon annually by connecting current program participants with previous participants.

A growing network of emerging young leaders throughout the Australasian Rail Industry will provide valuable relationships for participants to draw upon and aims to assist in keeping talent within the industry.

CostsThe program cost is $2950 AUD excluding GST per participant. This provides:

• the seven-day workshop program,

• Myers Briggs personality analysis,

• attendance at the four networking functions,

• registration to attend AusRAIL PLUS 2019, and

• a ticket to the AusRAIL PLUS 2019 Gala Dinner.

Accommodation and transport are to be booked separately, at the cost of the organisation. Recommended hotels will be provided.

To ApplyThis program is only open to ARA members and is limited to 36 participants.

ARA members are invited to nominate one emerging leader from their organisation to participate .

A future leader can be nominated from any business area.

The ARA has an active diversity program and encourages members to consider diversity (gender, ethnicity, skills, qualifications) in their nomination.

Participants requirements:

• preferably 35 years or under

• directly engaged in the rail industry

• intend to stay in the rail industry

• a permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand.

Two elements are required to apply:

1. Organisation: complete the relevant sections of theExpression of Interest (EOI).

2. Participant: complete the relevant sections of the EOIand prepare a 3-minute video as per the EOI.
