The best of both worldsUnder the IONIQ hybrid's hood, two hearts beat as one: a 32kW electric motor and a Kappa 1.6-litre Atkinson GDi engine. The car switches seamlessly between the conventional engine and electric motor. Gasoline direct injection extracts the maximum amount of energy from each droplet of fuel while delivering 105PS.

By mounting the battery under the seats, IONIQ hybrid is able to attain an exceptionally low centre of gravity. This greatly enhances agility and helps make IONIQ hybrid so much fun to drive.

It's reassuring to know that the 7-airbag system offers comprehensive protection. There's a pair of front airbags for my front passenger and me plus an airbag for my knees. A pair of side airbags (front seats only) and full-length curtain airbags defend against side collisions.

The application of ultra high-strength steel alloys has been expanded to 53 percent of the IONIQ's body shell. As a result, IONIQ offers unparalleled strength and safety protection in the event of a collision.

Maintains a set distance to the preceding vehicle, automatically reducing or increasing speed up to a pre-set limit. In “stop & go” traffic, the pre-determined distance is always maintained. Restarting after a stop phase is activated by light pressure on the accelerator pedal.

Adaptive Smart Cruise Control (ASCC)When a potential collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected, AEB first gives a visual and an audible warning, then intervenes with partial or complete brake application.

Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)

Lane keeping assist system (LKAS)Rear radar sensors detect the proximity of other vehicles when changing lanes. Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses the same sensors to detect approaching vehicles when backing out of parking spaces.

Blind spot detection (BSD)Warns the driver of unintended departure from the chosen traffic lane and applies corrective steering if necessary.
