Mobile Utility • An April 2012 survey finds that some 86% of smartphone owners have used their

phones in the previous 30 days to perform at least one of the following activities:

• Coordinate a meeting or get-together — 41%

• Solve an unexpected problem that they or someone else had encountered — 35%

• Decide whether to visit a business, such as a restaurant — 30%

• Find information to help settle an argument they were having — 27%

• Look up a score of a sporting event — 23%

• Get up-to-the-minute traffic or public transit information to find the fastest way to get somewhere — 20%

Mobile Addiction?

• 67% of cell owners find themselves checking their phone for messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their phone ringing or vibrating.

• 44% of cell owners have slept with their phone next to their bed because they wanted to make sure they didn’t miss any calls, text messages, or other updates during the night.

• 29% of cell owners describe their cell phone as “something they can’t imagine living without.”

As of January 2014, Americans spent 46.6% of their total internet time with mobile apps, compared to roughly 45.1% spent accessing the internet from a desktop and the remaining 8.3% using mobile browsers.

Its all about Apps

In 2013, the U.S. consumer spent an average of 2 hours and 38 minutes per day on smartphones and tablets. 80% of that time (2 hours and 7 minutes) was spent inside apps and 20% (31 minutes) was spent on the mobile web.

Mobile Apps Future

By 2017, mobile apps will be downloaded more than 268 billion times, generating revenue of more than $77 billion and making apps one of the most popular computing tools for users across the globe, according to Gartner, Inc. As a result, Gartner predicts that mobile users will provide personalized data streams to more than 100 apps and services every day.
