Only Five Weeks until the
Westport Community Festival June 4, 2017 • Noon-8pm
Guardian Angels Church
The Festival is Guardian Angels largest fundraiser of the year
and we need your help!
Silent Auction — We are in need of items for the Silent
Auction. Donate or solicit a gift (a good plan is to solicit a
gift from a restaurant, company or store where you do
business). We ask that this has a minimum value of $25.
Restaurant certificates, service gift cards, baseball tickets,
wine baskets — are desired auction items.
Raffle Tickets — We are asking each household to purchase
or sell at least $20 (20 tickets @ $1/each) in raffle tickets. We
should have raffle tickets available soon and we will need you
to pick them up in the back of church. We will also have quilt
raffle tickets available at $2/each or 3 for $5.00.
Game & Bingo Prizes — We will need game and bingo
prizes.
Day of the Festival — We need people power! If you don’t
already have a job at the Festival, please call Deacon Tyrone
at the parish office; he will find you a job!
Emergency Evacuation Plan
We are entering tornado season, which means the
chance for tornados and dangerous storms is greatly
increased. If you are at the church
and we need to take cover, anyone
who is handicapped or in a
wheelchair will need to go up the
ramp to the hallway between the
sacristy and the chapel. Everyone
on the north side of the church
should go down the stairs on the north side and
individuals on the south side of the church should go
down the south stairs. Anyone in the back of church
can go downstairs at the southwest staircase. After
going downstairs to the Parish Hall, all individuals
should go to the area of the stage, on the east wall.
Evacuation plans are posted at all entrances to the
church, for your review.
Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with
St. Margaret of Scotland Parish St. Margaret of Scotland Parish and Fr. Ernie Davis
invite you to join them on a pilgrimage to the Holy
Land, January 10 – 20, 2018. Visit Bethlehem, Mt.
Carmel, Galliee, Nazareth, Cana, Jerusalem and
more. The price of $3446 includes airfare from
Kansas City, First Class Hotels, Buffet Breakfast
and Dinner daily, Deluxe Motorcoach, Professional
Guide and Driver, Entrance Fees and more! For a

Scotland 816-246-6800 or go to www.stmos.org.
AN EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE ON
CARE FOR CREATION
Questions to ask yourself, in celebration of Earth
Day, 2017:
* Do I live out my responsibility to care for God’s
creation?
* Do I see my care for creation as an integral part of
my care for the poor, who are most at risk from
environmental problems?
* Do I litter?
* Do I recycle even when it is inconvenient?
* Do I live wastefully?
* Do I use energy too freely?
* Are there way I could reduce my consumption?
* Are there ways I could change my daily practices
and those of my home, school, workplace, and larger
communities to better conserve the earth’s resources
for future generations?
If you are in need of prayers for a loved one,
please let the prayer group know by calling Rita
McBratney at 816-931-3885. Many thanks.

4|Guardian Angels Parish Kansas City, MO
Unless you are new to Guardian Angels Parish or a visitor, I am
sure you are aware of our annual Festival that will take place on
Sunday, June 4. You more than likely also know that this is our
biggest fundraiser of the year. This is a big deal for our church
and we need it to be successful.
This year, for the first time, we are sending out postcards to
residences close to the parish, to let people know about the
Festival in advance and encourage them to plan to attend. This
is a leap of faith, since the postcards are an added expense, but
we figure if we encourage more people to attend, and they have
a great time, we are building on attendance for future Festivals.
This is where we need your help.
The Festival can’t happen with a handful of people; we need
MAJOR help. The Silent Auction (in the school cafeteria), is in
need of auction items that are new and worth a minimum of
$25. If you go to a specific restaurant or a certain hair salon,
they will oftentimes be glad to give you a restaurant certificate
or salon gift card if you are a regular customer, to help promote
their business. Baseball tickets, home gift baskets, wine
baskets, and home appliance items are also popular auction
items. Maybe you can form a group of other parishioners and
purchase something for the auction. Do you have a special
talent? Can you knit or crochet? If so, would you be willing to
submit a certificate to the silent auction to teach someone these
skills?
The BINGO committees also need prizes. These are not a huge
expense, but we need things that would be appealing BINGO
winners.
We need all parishioners to sell $20 in raffle tickets. The grand
prize is $500! Runner up prizes include a $150 QuikTrip gift
card, a Sun Fresh card and car wash certificates. A bonus
raffle that takes place concurrently has a prize of a gorgeous
handmade quilt. It is queen-sized and made with love by
Guardian Angels parishioner, Merty Gramlich.
On the day of the Festival, we will need individuals to work
BINGO, set up the Festival, sell raffle tickets, serve food, be on
the clean-up crew, sell beer and beverages, work the prize
redemption tent and work the silent auction. We will also need
pies, cakes and cookies for our dessert table.
This weekend, there is a sign-up sheet in the back of church on
the bulletin board. Please sign up for one or two shifts (or
more) to assist on the day of the Festival. In addition to helping
the church, you will work alongside people who also care about
our church and our parish family. We can’t make this our best
Festival ever without YOU.
