As part of our High Holy Day preparations we send out Kavanot–reflections written by members of our congregation about how they prepare spiritually and personally for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur.

These brief essays will be sent to our community via e-mail between Selihot and Erev Rosh HaShanah, from September 4 through 8. Each kavanah will also be posted on our website, www.chizukamuno.org. To ensure that you will receive these reflections, please be sure that we have your current e-mail address. Please forward your e-mail address to our office or to info@chizukamuno.org.

The days before Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur provide us the opportunity to take stock of our lives and think about the future. We pause to anticipate the blessing and meaning of beginning another New Year. We take the time to consider ideas and concerns that may engage our hearts and minds when we join family, friends, and community to observe the High Holy Days. We hope these e-mail reflections will inspire each of us in the preparation of our own hearts and thoughts.

New!! Operation Welcome Home Maryland Join us as we welcome home our troops from military service overseas. Volunteers will meet at BWi airport and help pack goodie bags, cheer for soldiers, and thank them for their service. Dates are set 1-3 weeks in advance of the incoming flights. We are developing an e-mail list for people who are interested. if you would like to be informed of these welcoming opportunities contact Rabbi Wechsler, dwechsler@chizukamuno.org. This project is suitable for adults and children of all ages.

Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake Chizuk Amuno has volunteer slots for Building on Faith Weekend, Sunday, October 24. No construction skills are needed and there is always a construction supervisor on site. A variety of tasks is available and will be determined based on need. Teenagers over the age of 16 are encouraged to participate. This is a great opportunity to represent Chizuk Amuno while building homes for families alongside great volunteers from around the area.
