2009–2010ACCÈS CULTURE PRIZEThéâtre de la Pire Espèce is the winner of the Accès culturePrize for 2009–2010. This prize is awarded by Ville deMontréal to an artist or company whose work is remarkablefor its creative daring and technical innovation. The prizeincludes a tour in the city’s cultural network betweenNovember 2009 andMay 2010.

ROLAND (LA VÉRITÉ DU VAINQUEUR)Théâtre de la Pire Espèce presents an epic retelling of LaChanson de Roland by twomedieval knights armed only withlamps and cardboard armour. A sure delight for childrenaged 10 and up. (See page 61 for more details)

THEÂTRE DE LA PIRE ESPÈCEA brotherhood of joyful craftsmenwhose trade is the un-usual, whose art is the new. Inspired by the ancient arts ofpuppeteering, their theatre combines simplematerials with asophisticated imagination and a baroque profusion of ideasenactedwith great technical skill. The company pushes stageconventions and narrative rules to the limit, all in the name ofcreating a special relationship with the audience.
