2020 Registration Information You MUST read this entire brochure, download the registration form
for the location you wish to attend, fill out the form and mail it back
with payment before the February 1 deadline!
All day camp participants (except boys and tags) MUST be registered Girl Scouts.
You can wait to see if you are accepted into camp before registering.
If accepted into camp, you MUST complete the online registration at www.GSNorCal.org.
EVERYONE must provide a copy of their Girl Scout registration confirmation with their health forms.
Girls do NOT have to be in a troop to register as a Girl Scout. Individual registration is available.
We offer 8 one-week sessions at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette and 1 one-week session at
Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon. All sessions work in conjunction with the Diablo Day Camp
Committee and under the umbrella of GSNorCal. With two locations, we are able to offer camp
to more girls, not more camp to the same girls who have already gotten into camp.

Diablo Day Camp at 2 different locations!
Session LH only at Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon
The Little Hills session hosted over 300 campers last
summer. The park is owned by the East Bay Regional
Park District and run by a concession company.
Little Hills Ranch is an expansive site offering lots of
shaded picnic tables, a large swimming pool and
plenty of lawn area.
Campers do not cook lunch. Cooking is offered, but is
limited to twice during the week and only a snack-type
food. All campers and staff bring a bag lunch each day
(please no peanuts or nuts at camp).
Campers spend their time doing activities such as
swimming, crafts, cooking, nature, games and sports.
There are large areas for volleyball, basketball,
horseshoes and lawn games. Archery is restricted to
campers currently in third grade and up due to space
limitations.
Contact Session LH Directors for more information.
Sessions 1 to 8 at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette
In 1954, local Girl Scouts used cookie money and generous
donations to purchase 65 acres. Some land was sold to East
Bay Regional Parks in 1977, leaving about 40 acres.
Originally each service unit ran a 2-week camp. Now
service units combine efforts and DDC offers week-long
themed camps. Ownership of Camp Twin Canyon was
given to the GSSFBA (now GSNorCal) which maintains the
site. Diablo Day Camp rents the site for the summer.
Camp Twin Canyon is beautiful. Unit areas are spaced
throughout the two tree-lined canyons. There are hiking
trails, picnic tables, a small pool and outdoor cooking
facilities. Girls cook their lunch most days. The outdoor
cooking program is what makes DDC at Camp Twin
Canyon unique in the area. Campers enjoy other camp
activities such as nature, swimming, crafts and archery
(for campers currently in first grade and up).
Contact individual Session Directors for information.

Diablo Day Camp is operated under the management of the all-volunteer Diablo Day Camp Committee.
Camp fees cover Girl Scouts of Northern California administrative costs, insurance, site rental fees,
Diablo Day Camp patch, program materials and food.
Both locations of Diablo Day Camp are outdoor, rustic settings. You may encounter wildlife such as deer,
foxes, wild turkeys, birds, bugs, snakes or rodents, to name a few. For more information about sensible
precautions to take in the outdoors, visit your local Vector Control District website.
Camp health care volunteers provide basic first aid only. In case of illness or injury requiring greater care,
the parent/guardian will be contacted by camp staff. All sessions have a crisis team trained to respond to
emergencies.
Medical or Special Needs (including food allergies):
All of our campers have the opportunity to cook and come in contact with many different types of food
while at Diablo Day Camp, so food allergies are of special concern. If your child has food allergies, it may
not be possible to accommodate those needs in a camp lunch or snack food. If that is the case, you may be
asked to provide food for your child.
We welcome girls of all abilities and needs, however, we are limited in the support we can provide to
campers and elves. Most units (groups) have 2 adults and 2 elves (teenage helpers) with 20+ campers. If
your daughter (camper or elf) has a medical or special need and can function well in a large group in a
rustic environment, we will work with you to support her at camp. If your daughter would not do well in
a large group with minimal adult support, different camps may be more appropriate for her.
Please contact us at [email protected] to work to come up with an accommodation for your
child if needed. Our first priority is your camper’s safety. Even if your camper is returning, please contact
us regarding food allergies or special needs.
Volunteer! Camp is a family affair! One adult volunteer is required for every 6 children (campers and elves). No experience is necessary.
All interested adults are encouraged to apply. Free training is provided. Campers and elves of adult camp
volunteers are given priority into camp and priority regarding session placement when possible.
When you sign up as an adult volunteer, you are eligible to bring your other children who meet the age
requirements. They have a full camp program too! Tags are TK (transitional Kindergarten) and preschool
boys and girls. Tags must be at least three years old by the first day of your session. Tags must be potty-
trained. Tags spend their days playing games, snacking, hiking around camp, and doing simple craft
projects. Boys currently enrolled in grades K through 5 are welcome to attend camp with their volunteer
parent. Boys participate in most of the activities that the campers enjoy, including archery and swimming.
Boys currently in sixth grade or above are too old to attend our camp. Please make other arrangements for
these children.

Important Information: Campers
1. Complete one registration form per family/
household. Each family/household must complete
their own form. All forms must be signed by the
parent/legal guardian. Do NOT put unrelated
persons on the same form.
2. Girls currently in Kindergarten through eighth
grade can apply as campers. Girls in TK are not
eligible to attend. Girls currently in grades seven
through twelve can apply as elves.
3. See page 1 for information about Girl Scout
membership requirements.
4. Campers are limited to 1 session per summer,
regardless of session location. You may enter both
lotteries, but will only be placed in one session if
space is available. Indicate as many session choices as
possible in your order of preference.
5. Registrations are ONLY accepted via mail to the
P.O. box and must be postmarked on or before the
deadline of February 1. Please note our mailing
address: P.O. Box 2804, Martinez, CA 94553-2804.
Diablo Day Camp does not assume responsibility for
late, lost or misdirected mail.
6. Incomplete registration forms will not be
processed. If time permits, the incomplete form will
be returned to the sender with an explanatory letter.
The form can be corrected and re-sent with full
payment to the registrar by February 1. No spots will
be held. PLEASE SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION
FORM EARLY IN CASE THERE IS A PROBLEM.
7. Campers of adult camp volunteers are given
priority regarding session placement. All other
complete registration forms (see above regarding
incomplete forms) with full payment will be held
until after February 1 and then processed randomly
by lottery.
8. A camper currently in Kindergarten or first grade
and ONE friend in the same grade who would like to
attend the same session may apply as buddies. Both
registration forms MUST be sent in the same
envelope. We do NOT accept groups of friends or
troops applying as a group, even for volunteer staff.
9. Arrange carpools AFTER campers and elves have
been accepted into camp and placed into sessions.
10. Only those persons officially registered with the
Diablo Day Camp registrar will be allowed at camp.
11. There is a $35.00 charge for returned checks.
12. Diablo Day Camp will reimburse family paid
camp fees for valid cookie/fall sale rewards. The
original registration form must have full payment
attached. Do NOT send sale rewards with your
registration form! When your child is placed in camp,
mail rewards earned this year or last year to your
session director at least 30 days before your session
begins. To redeem sales rewards: make a copy of the
back of the card (where the numbers are), write the
girl’s full name, address and $ amount of reward
being redeemed. Do not send the card. After reward
amount is verified by council and camper attendance
is confirmed, camp fees paid will be reimbursed by
November 1. See our website for more information.
13. Financial aid is available from GSNorCal for
campers and elves who qualify. A $60 deposit per
camper or elf to Diablo Day Camp is required to hold
a spot. Request aid as soon as you apply for camp.
Camp fees must be paid in full by May 1 or camper /
elf will be dropped. Cookie/fall sale rewards are NOT
eligible to cover camp fees if financial aid is not
granted or the amount of aid does not cover the
camp fees fully. Families who are granted financial
aid and whose camper/elf does not attend camp are
responsible for paying the balance of camp fees. See
website for more information and link to financial aid
application .
14. Refunds are made in October. Refunds are sent to
the person who wrote the check that accompanied
the original registration form. Payment, less a $35
processing fee, will be refunded if WRITTEN notice
is received by your session director at least 30 days
before your session begins. As a courtesy, please
inform your session director of your cancellation as
soon as possible so that if there are girls on a waiting
list, they can be placed in camp.
15. GSNorCal Diablo Day Camp Tax Identification
Number (TIN) is 94-1551410. Your cancelled check is
your receipt for tax, dependent care or other proof of
payment requirements. Go to DiabloDayCamp.org
for more information.

Important Information: Elves
1. Elves are Diablo Day Camp helpers. Girls currently in seventh through twelfth grade may apply to be program aides (elves) for one week. The elf program is VERY popular. Daughters of adult camp volunteers are given priority into camp. All other complete elf registration forms with payment will be held until after February 1 and then processed randomly by lottery. Most elf applications without a related adult volunteer are turned down due to lack of space in the elf program.
2. Elves are limited to 1 session per summer, regardless of session location. You may enter both lotteries (San Ramon and Lafayette), but will only be placed in one session if space is available. Elves will be placed in the same session as other family members. To request an exception, attach a note to your registration form.
3. See page 1 for information about Girl Scout membership requirements. See page 3 for information about cookie credit reimbursements (#12), financial aid (#13) or the ID number for tax or dependent care deductions (#15).
4. Elves have the same hours as adult volunteers, arriving at camp at least 30 minutes before scheduled start times and staying up to 30 minutes after published end times. Elves arrange their own transportation to and from camp. Wait until AFTER session placement to arrange carpools.
5. Most elves at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette work in units helping campers build & start fires, and prep & cook lunch. Some Twin Canyon elves also help in core program areas. Elves at Little Hills Ranch will work in groups in program areas such as crafts, cooking, games and nature. Little Hills elves will also be assigned to units.
6. All elves are required to return paperwork on time and to attend and pass training. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are unable to attend the training listed below, do not apply to be an elf (you may apply to attend day camp as a camper if you meet the age requirements).
NEW elf training: Sat., April 25, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Returning elf training: Sun., April 19, 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
7. Returning elves are also required to volunteer for 2 hours day camp service before their session:
Twin Canyon options: 2 hours Sat., May 2 OR Sat., May 9 OR Sat., June 6 OR Sat., Aug. 1
Little Hills elves will be notified later of available times.
Questions about elves? Contact the elf trainers through the website: www.DiabloDayCamp.org.

Important Info: Adult volunteers
Contact any session director to learn more about
volunteering. The day camp staff is 100% volunteer!
Adult volunteers who work a session of camp this
summer are given priority in the lottery. All family
members attend camp the same session unless
otherwise requested. Volunteers do not work directly
with their own children. All Diablo Day Camp
volunteers must commit to working all five days of
camp. Job sharing is not allowed.
Adults must register as adult Girl Scouts and
complete the volunteer screening process. Proof is
required with health forms.
Go to www.GSNorCal.org to register.
Adults arrive at camp at least 30 minutes before
scheduled start times and stay up to 30 minutes after
published end times. All volunteers must attend
training. If you volunteer to work at camp and are
not able to fulfill your commitment (including
training), any children (campers and their buddies,
elves, boys and/or tags) associated with your
application will NOT be able to attend camp.
Volunteers and their families who drop will be
assessed the $35 refund processing fee (see camper
information page, #14).
If you are interested in volunteering
at camp this summer:
1. Complete the adult volunteer section of the
application and SUBMIT IT BY FEBRUARY 1!
2. Complete Tag/Boy application for siblings. They
have a full camp program too! Tags are TK and
preschool boys and girls who are at least three years
old on the first day of your session. Tags must be
potty-trained. Boys currently enrolled in grades K
through 5 are welcome to attend camp with their
volunteer parent. Boys currently in sixth grade or
above are too old to attend our camp. Please make
other arrangements for these children. Boys and Tags
do NOT register as Girl Scouts to attend camp.
3. Training is required to provide a safe environment
and a quality experience for each child and adult at
camp. Team work is critical for a safe and pleasant
experience and begins with meeting your fellow
volunteers at training. No children allowed at
training. Please DO NOT call the GS council office to
register for camp training days.
4. New (first year) adult volunteers must attend all
modules. Second year adult volunteers must attend
modules II, III, IV-1 and IV-2. Experienced volunteers
(third year and up at the same location) must attend
modules III, IV-1 and IV-2. Contact your session
director about possible alternative training.
Please note training dates now
and plan accordingly.
