Former Mifflin Township Fire Chief and lifelong resident of Ga-hanna, James (Jim) DeConnick will be this year’s Holiday Lights! Parade Grand Marshal during the annual holiday event on Friday, November 23.
DeConnick retired from his posi-tion as Fire Chief in June 2012 after nearly 43 years of service. As a life-long resident of Gahanna, DeCon-nick has been an active participant in many community events, includ-ing, the Fourth of July parade, Gah-anna Flea Market, Creekside Blues &
Jazz Festival and numerous sporting events. Current Mifflin Township Fire Chief, Tim Taylor, nominated him to serve as this year’s Holiday Lights! Parade Grand Marshal.
“Jim has spent the past 62 years as a Gahanna resident who has fully committed himself professionally and personally to our community,” said Gretchen Hof, Gahanna Con-vention & Visitors Bureau (GCVB) Events Coordinator. “The selection committee unanimously agreed

Winter Wonderland
The Gahanna Department of Parks & Recreation is excited to host the Winter Wonderland presented by AEP Ohio® at Creekside Park & Plaza again this year. The annual Holiday Tree and Winter Wonderland lighting is Saturday, November 10 at 6 p.m. on the Rotary Stage at Creekside Plaza. Once again, Mayor Becky Stinchcomb and the winners of the Flip the Switch Coloring Contest will illuminate the holiday displays.
Throughout the years, the Wonderland has grown from a simple light display on Creekside island to approximately 2,000 lights per tree this year, lights at the lagoon on the lower plaza and the new north and south trellises on the upper plaza. This year, the department estimates it will use 150,000 light bulbs to illuminate the Creekside area. Of those 150,000 light bulbs, approximately 100,000 are LED.
The Winter Wonderland stays illuminated through Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. Holiday activities, entertainment and fun continue throughout thanks to the shops, restaurant and business owners in Olde Gahanna. Santa Claus has scheduled time at the Ohio Herb Education Center every Saturday in December before Christmas for children to visit. More information, including times and activities, may be found at www.ohioherbeducationcenter.org.
Winter Wonderland presented by AEP Ohio® will illuminate the
Creekside area with over 100K lights
