What is IAMU?IAMU represents more than 755 municipal broadband, electric, gas, and water utilities across Iowa. Organized in 1947, IAMU is the largest organization of its kind in the country. In addition to Utility Members, IAMU is also open to Affiliate and Associate Members.

IAMU supports its members by:• Representing their interests before the Iowa Legislature.• Administering disaster assistance and mutual-aid programs.• Providing model plans, rules, and ordinances to help members comply with state and federal requirements.• Helping formulate and implement energy-efficiency programs.• Offering a wide range of educational classes and workshops held at the IAMU Training & Office Complex and in location across Iowa, including Utility Member facilities.• Offering a liability-insurance plan.• Providing member communications via news e-blasts, emails, magazines, and on the IAMU website.• Co-sponsoring the Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust (IPAIT).

Affiliate Members receive valuable services at a discountAffiliate Membership is open to Iowa municipalities that do not operate their own utilities, other governmental and quasi-governmental units, as well as utilities and municipalities in states outside of Iowa. IAMU Affiliate Members enjoy access to IAMU services, programs, and trainings at Utility Member pricing.

Valuable Training, Networking, & News at Affordable RatesAffiliate Members can receive discounts to attend IAMU conferences and workshops held throughout the year.• Broadband Conference – March 13 - 14, 2019• Energy Conference – October 23 - 25, 2019• Water/Wastewater Operator’s Workshop – November 19 - 21, 2019

These conferences are held in the Des Moines metro area.

In addition, IAMU holds numerous utility-specific and safety trainings several times a month at the IAMU Training & Office Complex in Ankeny as well as across the state.

Affiliate Members receive the latest utility news and information through:• The IAMU website• Informer – the IAMU weekly e-newsletter• IAMU Connection – the quarterly print magazine mailed to all members• The Bi-Annual Membership Directory – distributed to municipal policy makers statewide, including city managers, administrators, clerks, superintendents, and heads of utility departments

What’s more, Affiliate Members have access to the IAMU online database of current members -- both Utility Members and Associate (Business) Members to connect with counterparts in other commu-nities as well as potential vendors.
