❱ You must hold an initial teacher education qualification at Level 5, equivalent to the Diploma in Education and Training (DET) or the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) and have achieved English and maths qualifications at Level 2.

Teachers currently employed in England in a post-16 teaching role who hold an overseas initial teacher education qualification are also eligible to apply.

How do I apply?

1STEP

Choose your application ‘window’ and registerIn 2015-16, the three registration ‘windows’ are open during:

❱ 1 December 2015 - 29 January 2016

❱ 1 April 2016 - 31 May 2016

❱ 1 September 2016 - 31 October 2016

2STEP

Submit your QTLS feeThe fee to undertake QTLS is £485, payable in two instalments: £100 upon registration and £385 on submission of your application to SET for review.

Completion and submission of your workbookOnce you have joined SET and have registered for QTLS, you will be issued with an on-line workbook in REfLECT+. This is an on-line learning space where you document how you are continuing to develop your skills and subject knowledge in your current practice, underpinned by the 2014 Professional Standards.

You will need to:

❱ Support your narrative with evidence, including (though not exclusively) schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching and learning resources and observations of teaching and learning. Your workbook will be reviewed and moderated by the SET professional formation team.

❱ Nominate a supporter, normally a work colleague or line manager who holds a teaching qualification. Your supporter should be someone who can endorse your application and who has observed your teaching.

3STEP

Conferral of QTLSSuccessful candidates can download and print their QTLS certificate from REfLECT+ and their names will be added to the Professional Status Register (https://set.et-foundation.co.uk/professionalism/qtls-register/). They will also receive a hard copy of their certificate from SET. Please note that in order to remain on the Professional Status Register, you need to be a current member of SET.

Applicants who do not initially meet the criteria following the review of their workbook, will have an opportunity to reapply submitting the further evidence outlined in their feedback.
