“I have what is termed ‘Young-Onset Parkinson's Disease,’ a degenerative neurological condition that typically affects people much older than me. I thank you for providing GALILEO because it provides me with the opportunity to do personal research into my illness. Through information obtained on GALILEO, I have come to understand the changes and transitions people living with Parkinson's experience. This assists greatly in the process of coming to an acceptance of and making peace with this disease.

GALILEO also provides the rare service of making available to the public medical and scientific information resources that gives up to the moment news on the search for a cure. And that provides me with great hope.

Thank you for providing the GALILEO service. Please know that it is appreciated and very needed.”

“I am a fan of GALILEO because for 15 years it has provided every

student, teacher, administrator, parent, and citizen of Georgia with digital resources and information

24/7… We simply cannot educate our students without resources of

GALILEO.”Judy SerritellaCoordinator, Library Media ServicesGeorgia Department of Education

“GALILEO has been useful to me in all of my classes - from English 1101 to upper-division English courses. It allows students to find sources from around the world and to access many of these from their home computers. This is particularly useful at a school with some many students who work full time and commute. I've also appreciated the library staff's knowledge of GALILEO and specific techniques they've shared with my students that I can pass on to future classes.”English ProfessorMacon State College

comprehensive, efficient search engine that makes my research possible. My students use GALILEO for efficient and indepth searches that prepare them for more concentrated scholarly work in the

future.”

“GALILEO provides ready access to a variety of reliable reference materials, journals, and primary and secondary sources. I have used

GALILEO resources as a researcher, while writing my book Coretta Scott King: a

Biography (ABC-Clio, 2009), and I have also used GALILEO resources during professional development workshops that I have offered

for teachers.

I am grateful to the GALILEO funders, planners, and staff for providing users like

me such a valuable site.”Laura McCartyGeorgia Humanities Council

Natalie Clewell is a fan of GALILEO because…“without it I would be lost! It has helped me write papers, find good books to read, research family

history, and more. I used GALILEO as an undergraduate at UGA, and now I work with

GALILEO every day at West Georgia Technical College libraries. The people of Georgia are so lucky

to have this great resource at the tips of their fingers.”

“GALILEO has made it possible for East Georgia College and other small two-year

and 4-year colleges to afford a great number of resources that we would never have been able to afford as a stand-alone

institution. The 'inventors' of GALILEO leveraged the buying power of the 35

libraries in the University System of Georgia and were able to provide numerous

resources for all students, faculty, and staff in the USG. GALILEO has leveled the

playing field among the USG institutions which has facilitated the transfer of

students within the System. The inventors also collaborated with other educational institutions in Georgia to make valuable

resources available to other students and citizens of the state. ”

“Being a Reference Librarian, I cannot imagine my professional life without GALILEO! This is a

truly indispensable resource that has come handy to me on many occasions when helping faculty

and students with their research. If I had to come up with one phrase to briefly describe my

experiences with GALILEO, it would be complete satisfaction and a deep appreciation of the whole

gamut of services it provides.…

In short, I am a huge fan of GALILEO and always look forward to taking part in their learning

initiatives!”

“I think that GALILEO is the most wonderful collection of resources to

have been made available in the 21st century! We should be so thankful that academic, public and K-12 libraries have

access to first rate resources at any time of the day or night.

I am GALILEO's #1 cheerleader! Hooray for a partnership of all kinds of

librarians and libraries that makes it all possible!”

“I love GALILEO....It offers our students, faculty and staff a wealth of materials that ordinarily a two year unit of the USG could not afford as

a single entity. The resources range from those related to specific topics,

such as Nursing, to those of a general nature which are used by our public

patrons.…

The state of Georgia is so very fortunate to have GALILEO and I’m grateful that my institution is able to participate in

such a wonderful program.”

“I'm the same age as GALILEO--in Georgia years that is.It was born the first year I came to Georgia and I KNEW it was the product of a vision of forward thinking and inclusive library

leaders in my new state. Georgia was one of the first states with such a comprehensive initiative to share resources across all

types of learning institutions--colleges, public libraries, and K-12 schools. When I teach Athens Technical College students how to

conduct their research using GALILEO, I tell them that GALILEO is a ‘Georgia Thing’ and to be very proud to have

access to all its treasures.”

invaluable to me. As an undergraduate at a small liberal arts college, GALILEO databases

resources we subscribe to through GALILEO, and I teach them every

Nan is a fan of GALILEO“because of its integration of information

resources across the entire broad spectrum of the state's educational

system. From Pre-K to higher ed, GALILEO provides continuity for Georgia's

learners. What that means for our students at Georgia State University is

that even as first-year students they are prepared to hit the ground running when

they're assigned their first college research project. They already know to go

to GALILEO where they will find the resources they need to complete that

assignment. ”

“GALILEO provides our small college library with hundreds of professional

databases that we would never be able to find on our own. Our faculty, staff, and students all benefit greatly from this. In addition, the GALILEO support

team is on top of every situation. I have never had to wait more than 24 hours

for a reply to a request for support. The team is professional, courteous, and is constantly providing more services to

users, including tutorials, webinars, and one-on-one assistance. That's why I'm a

The Search Books section of HeritageQuest Online adds 26,000 books to my personal library that I do not have to dust or make room for. This collection

has family histories and local histories many of which are out-of-print and I can read them for free.

Ancestry Library Edition helps family history research since it gives me the ability to search

records from distant places and know where to find the original records.

NoveList helps me find more fiction for me and for library users. Since I have not had time to read much fiction until recently, I am weak in helping

library users find what they want to read. NoveList can get me to books our patrons want to read.

With PROQUEST‘s ABI/INFORM Complete, I check the latest news about the BP

oil spill from publications all over the world and from all perspectives.

“GALILEO is an incredible resource that provides up-to-date information to students

of all ages. As the media specialist in an intermediate school (grades 3-5), I constantly refer our teachers and students to its one-of-

a-kind in-depth resources on Georgia's history, geography, animals and habitats.

…In addition, GALILEO's wealth of information

for teachers and advanced learners is unparalleled. GALILEO put Georgia first in

the nation in providing online database resources to its citizens well over a decade ago...and it continues to be an amazing and

valued resource today. ”Barbara Powell-SchagerMedia Specialist, Big Shanty

“GALILEO helped me tremendously with research needed while

completing my post graduate studies at the University of Georgia. This is a

great tool for any level of education and end user. I would highly recommend using

GALILEO to anyone in any field, it is not only limited to the field of education.

GALILEO has a vast amount of resources and databases to reference. I use

GALILEO to find information both professionally and personally. Way to go, GALILEO! You Rock!”

“GALILEO was a priceless source of information to me in completing my graduate education. I was

introduced to GALILEO at Valdosta State University in 1996 while studying for my M.Ed in Instructional Technology. I took job as a Media Specialist with

the Dougherty County School System on completion of my degree in 1998. I immediately

introduced my teachers and students to GALILEO who also found the database a great

source of information for teaching and learning. More so, I sourced most of my research resources for my Specialist degree in Information

and Library Science, while I was enrolled at Florida State University between 2000 and 2003. GALILEO

is highly envied by educators and students from other US states. I will forever remain a fan and user

of GALILEO. ”

I love finding new and creative ways to integrate it into the academic lives of our college students, faculty and staff. I

great resources for the classroom. As a teacher librarian and provider of staff

information that can't be found anywhere else on the web. I could never afford to buy even one of these databases for my personal

use - they are way too expensive. I rely on my library to make them available to me. The databases can be accessed 24/7 which is great when I have a burning need for an obscure piece of information in the middle of

“I can think of no educational/public service in Georgia that returns more on its

investment than GALILEO. In this time of economic difficulty, our libraries, colleges, and universities are more important than ever as information resources for all the people in the state of Georgia, not just those who live in major cities. From the

Folkston to Lookout Mountain, from Plains to Toccoa, GALILEO is there for students, small businesses, and citizens who need information of a higher quality than is available through Google and its like. ”

Andy is a fan of GALILEO because…“it's GREEN. No more driving to the library, making photocopies of articles I *think* I might need, only to discard them later. I can use GALILEO from home, so I don't have to drive. I can evaluate, save, and read articles electronically, which uses much less paper. Also, libraries don't have to purchase and store as

many print resources, which saves trees and reduces the amount of climate-controlled space they need.”

I recall the excitement when Georgia’s statewide virtual library was

created in 1995. It was groundbreaking and equalized information

access for all citizens, “cradle to grave.”…

Since then, no matter which part of Georgia I lived in, I have been thankful every week to have so much quality research at my

finger tips. …

As Georgia weathers economic turbulence, GALILEO evokes pride and comfort. Any resident can walk into almost any library or

media center around the state and find career advice, consumer tips, stock reports, or homework help. Definitely fan-worthy!

Page 51: GALILEO Fans 2010

“GALILEO offers educational institutions the opportunity to stretch their electronic resource dollars by providing access to

resources at a consortial rate, and providing access to resources that institutions might not afford on their own. This, in turn, allows institutions to direct their diminishing funds

elsewhere. In these times of significant budget cuts, this makes GALILEO a hero in

my book. Georgia's educational institutions, from Kindergarten to Post Graduate, need all

the help they can get!Thank you, GALILEO!”
